Matt Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 RATM is signed to Cowels label anyhows......The guys a genius money making monster!! I haven't really got a problem with Cowell, I think he's quite funny tbh, and judging by the articles of how much money he has and how much he is worth he's a bloody good businessman, Its the concept of the X Factor, similar shite programmes like that and Manufactured Pop I have the problem with - Which I suppose is Cowell's fault and how he's made so much money. Not letting a X Factor winner get to Christmas Number 1 is a very small start in the demise of these programmes, won't make much difference but atleast it won't be an unwritten rule that the X Factor winner gets Christmas Number 1 no more!
jimmer Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 Aren't they all subsidiaries of Sony? Not Cowell's label Yes they are, Syco is Cowells label which in turn, is also part of columbia records and Sony BMG, of which RATM are signed. Simon is also directly employed by sony BMG
Guest Mee-9 Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 Personally I thought an xmas song could of been chosen, rather than RATM. The Pogues anybody?
Fosse Boy Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 Yes they are, Syco is Cowells label which in turn, is also part of columbia records and Sony BMG, of which RATM are signed. Simon is also directly employed by sony BMG Just because they're signed to a label owend by Sony doesn't mean they're on Cowell's label. My mate (who is fairly clued up on the music biz) was explaining to me the fact that they're both under the Sony umbrella really isn't a big deal as there are a ridiculous amount of subsidiaries underneath it, so it's a pretty weak argument when people are trying to point out the irony of championing RATM as a protest.
BoneDog Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 Personally I thought an xmas song could of been chosen, rather than RATM. The Pogues anybody? Yes I would be happy with any Crimbo song. Preferably Jingle Bell Rock. I love RATM but would of been happier if whoever started this had chose an old proper Crimbo song. It is frickin Christmas after all.
Fosse Boy Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 Personally I thought an xmas song could of been chosen, rather than RATM. The Pogues anybody? There's always rubbish facebook campaigns trying to get Fairytale of New York to Christmas number one, by not choosing a Christmas song, those behind the RATM one have managed to capture the public's imagination a bit better. Incidentally, "Christmas" songs have only been Christmas number one in 11 out of 56 years the charts have been going...
Hugo Sanchez Posted 18 December 2009 Posted 18 December 2009 Should had been a Oasis song, would had defo work then. RATM are for geeky college student who think they are cool for listening to their rubbish. FUK YOU I WON'T DO WHAT YOU TELL ME ... Errr yeah, or i'm gonna tell your mum you have been smoking fags.

Think they're cool? I know I'm cool, my mum told me I was.
Finnegan Posted 19 December 2009 Posted 19 December 2009 How retarded are some people? The song was chosen because it's a cliché protest song and because it's reactionary. Backing some average Christmas song instead wouldn't get even half as much attention or be half as "controversial*." *I don't really consider it at all that controversial, but you know what I mean.

I understand why someone chose this song but I'd still prefer Jingle Bell Rock! Although I never listen to Radio 1 or the charts. Cowell will be loving this whatever happens. I'm sure that the Joe lad has probably shifted more records than he would of because of all this extra publicity.
Finnegan Posted 19 December 2009 Posted 19 December 2009 I think you're probably right. I'm not a Simon Cowell fan at all but I do think he's very intelligent in a marketing/PR sense. I doubt he'd have reacted so strongly to the media if he was actually that bothered about it, I imagine he'd try and play it down instead of hamming it up for hype.
purpleronnie Posted 19 December 2009 Posted 19 December 2009 To be honest I actually thought he was about 18 odd. I wish, thats my IQ though.
Fosse Boy Posted 19 December 2009 Posted 19 December 2009 Joe heard RAGE AGAINST THE MACHINE track Killing In The Name - currently beating his song The Climb in the race for Christmas No1 - as he guest edited today's Bizarre column.Geordie lad Joe was sickened by the heavy rock tune which is littered with f-words. He said: "They can't be serious! I had no idea what it sounded like. It's dreadful and I hate it. How could anyone enjoy this? Can you imagine the grandmas hearing this over Christmas lunch? "I wouldn't buy it. It's a nought out of ten from me. Simon Cowell wouldn't like it. They wouldn't get through to boot camp on The X Factor - they're just shouting." It turns out Joe is a sensitive lad and is really upset by the Facebook campaign urging people to download RATM's track to stop him getting to No1. He took his frustrations out by slinging darts at a picture of Rage frontman ZACK DE LA ROCHA. Joe understands why the campaign has captured the public's imagination - Killing In The Name could be the first non-X Factor Christmas No1 since 2004 - and he is trying not to take it personally. He said: "I think people are jumping on this to have a go at Simon and The X Factor rather than me. But Simon gives people a shot." Sales figures yesterday showed Rage were still ahead of Joe in the Christmas scramble. They have sold 306,000 to Joe's 297,000. One theory is that if the weather is good today, people will get to the shops to buy The Climb on CD. But if it is bad that will benefit Rage, who are on download only. Joe added: "I will be really disappointed if it doesn't go to No1 after all the effort I've put in to this and winning the show." I backed Joe all the way through The X Factor and would like to see him get the Christmas No1 - but it is in your hands. We will have to wait until tomorrow to see who is celebrating and who is Raging. http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showb...es-riffage.html
Libertine Posted 19 December 2009 Posted 19 December 2009 Apparently he's been completely misquoted though. 'Tis The Sun after all.
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 19 December 2009 Posted 19 December 2009 He doesnt seem to realsie that the edited/clean version will be played if it wins.
Fosse Boy Posted 19 December 2009 Posted 19 December 2009 Apparently he's been completely misquoted though. 'Tis The Sun after all. Yeah, watching the video of it now. He doesn't sound malicious, just a bit thick.
Finnegan Posted 20 December 2009 Posted 20 December 2009 http://www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/showb...es-riffage.html    Jesus. Even if he HAS been misquoted I might actually go buy RATM now.
Libertine Posted 20 December 2009 Posted 20 December 2009 Apparently Joe's won by about 50k. Probably bollocks, don't know where these people get these figures from but he's probably won regardless.
BoneDog Posted 20 December 2009 Posted 20 December 2009 Those poor Grandmas who'll have to listen to it during Crimbo dinner!
Hugo Sanchez Posted 20 December 2009 Posted 20 December 2009 Well said joe, just blooming shouting for god sake. When i'm eating my xmas dinner. I don't wanna hear that popacock of a song in the background. Geeks like Finns like this because they think oh yeah im hardcore, im a rebel. Like grow up fer god sakes. The song and the band are a joke and a blooming sell out for Cowell's sake. I be going to asda on monday and getting The Climb single.

I suspect your viewpoint may have been slightly different had Joe decided to cover one of the Gallaghers' numbers for his Christmas single...
