Kilworthfox Posted 21 December 2009 Author Posted 21 December 2009 RAGE Being honest this is brilliant! fook you Cowell & your **** idiot X Factor viewers
lou Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Well, I guess the music industry has really learned its lesson. I guess it is sitting in a corporate conference room licking its' wounds. And drinking champagne while counting the profits from increased sales. Happy for Shelter. Exactly! Both have now sold loads more copies than they would have done with people trying to ensure their favourites got to number one. Only winners are the corporate big boys... again.
Tilley Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Being honest this is brilliant! fook you Cowell & your **** idiot X Factor viewers It's even better because when the Facebook group got created, I thought loads of people would join and no one would actually buy it. So glad everyone actually did it.
Samilktray Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Exactly! Both have now sold loads more copies than they would have done with people trying to ensure their favourites got to number one. Only winners are the corporate big boys... again. Indeed Rage have proved nothing really, Im getting started on my Pogues for Christmas number 1 2010 Facebook group in Easter.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Alot better RATM songs that could've been chosen.
Alexikokopops Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Exactly! Both have now sold loads more copies than they would have done with people trying to ensure their favourites got to number one. Only winners are the corporate big boys... again. The band are giving all the money they've made from this to Shelter, so they're definitely a winner.
Kilworthfox Posted 21 December 2009 Author Posted 21 December 2009 Alot better RATM songs that could've been chosen. Agreed, however it has noting to do with that.
stez Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 fvck you i won't do what you tell me! buy rage instead of joe fvck you i'll do what that group tells me
lou Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 The band are giving all the money they've made from this to Shelter, so they're definitely a winner. Thats good news then! Unfortunately the big record company bosses wont give anything to charity I wager... Good for the band though
Babylon Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Shame it will probably drop without trace and Joe will be number one next week!!
Edmund Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 How anyone can see this is as a good thing is clearly deluded. Sony own the rights to both songs. I bet Sony are having one hell of a christmas party as we speak. You've not show them anything but the colour of your money. Just looking at that top twenty just proves how pathetic the music charts are these days not to mention the sales. Thank god I don't listen to any of this bullshine. Hopefully this will be another nail in the long overdue coffin for the top 40.
Fox You Forest Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Anyone else not bothered in the slightest?
James. Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 The whole premise of it is a bag of shit but purely for the fact that Shelter are going to get a bit of cash I'm glad it happened.

Like I said before - it's more than just "lol let's not let Simon Cowell get number one" or "fuck capitalism!" From what I've heard people I know say and from what I've observed it really seems to be about more than the charts and more a war on "dumbing down" in general. And to that end it does make a statement and I imagine it will be heard, to some extent. I'm not saying this is going to make huge changes but it is a small light in a slightly dark era of broadcasting. Anyone else not bothered in the slightest? Generally I'm with you but I do echo the following: The whole premise of it is a bag of shit but purely for the fact that Shelter are going to get a bit of cash I'm glad it happened.

I'm not saying this is going to make huge changes but it is a small light in a slightly dark era of broadcasting. I agree it's just made a whole mockery of the charts which is a good thing but will it make a difference? NO. To be honest I don't see what point has been made!? If they really wanted to make a statement why not push a talented un heard of artist who gets no radio play, who has a genuinely good song that the majority will like to number one. Maybe then people/radio stations will wake up and think hey, there's actually decent music out there on independent labels who we've been ignoring for x amount of years and if it wasn't for the campaign this song wouldn't have gone as far as his/hers bedroom. Lets open our minds and start having a say on what we play and get some decent music on the mainstream radio. The fact is no statement has been made. All the suckers have bought into some very clever Sony marketing. Believe it or not I actually don't care or take note of the charts (put it this way, the first I've ever heard of this joe was yesterday), hence why I've stayed away from this discussion but thought I'd get my two pence across with out sounding bitter. The fact that money is going to charity has put a nice twist on it. I was going to point out that it's sad that people would rather give a quid to Sony to try and 'get one over cowell' than use it more wisely and give it towards something important like charity. I must admit as a big Rage fan I'm happy to see them at number one. It would've been sweeter if they pushed 'Vietnow" Turn on tha radio, nah fook it turn it off Fear is your only god on the radio Nah fook it, turn it off Turn it off, turn on tha radio, nah fook it turn it off Fear is your only god on the radio Nah fook it, your saviour's my guillotine, crosses and kerosene Now that would've been interesting hearing radio 1 trying to play that on primetime.
Daggers Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 There we go, that's better... Merry fuck-you Christmas!

Doubt the big wigs in Japan will even notice the slight increase in profits. Am I right in thinking Joe's actually out sold all previous X factor winners?

At the end of the day money is money, not to mention all the other corporate companies who profited, itunes/amazon etc etc.
Benji Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 After a couple of listens to Joe's song I can't help but feel a bit sorry for him, its done pretty well and it suits his voice. Fair enough with the argument of why do it, but personally I think the wrong year has been chosen, best winner's release so far for me. Oh well.
Trumpet Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 Let's be honest, if Joe released the song in July, without the backing of the Xfactor and all the publicity around it, he wouldn't be challenging for the top spot.
maddog Posted 21 December 2009 Posted 21 December 2009 The climb is just an awful song, thats the reason Joe didn't make top spot. Had Simon Cowell stuck with the inital choice of winners song, Don't stop believing, sung by Joe on the show, he would have made number one easily. Journey's original version made 9 in the chart, had Joe released a version of that instead, he would have stormed to the number one spot, well ahead of Rage regardless of the campaign. Purely down to Simon Cowell choosing the wrong song, i bought Rage but not the climb, but i would have bought Don't stop believing had Joe sung it, as would tens of thousands of others in the country.
