Time for Rafa to call it a day?

Recommended Posts

Just wondering what people's opinions are on this subject, the fans are still backing him and most other fans around the country would of been wanting him sacked.

Thoughts?

I think hes in essence, a bloody good manager but when it gets to a certain stage like it appears to have for Rafa I think its time to call it a day. It just seems like nothings going right for him, Im not saying its all his fault. Im sure the problems off the field arent helping, it all depends if the players are behind him I guess. Doesnt look like the board have money to invest so Im not sure he can do any more. The team seem so dependant on Gerrard and Torres which is a worry.

At least the fans are, on the whole, appear to be still behind him and the team, a lot of fans would be baying for his blood after last night.

Can they afford to get rid of him?

He looked completely shot and emotional in the interview after last night's game.

I don't buy into the 'problems upstairs' reason/excuse - he's had whatever money he's needed to mould a decent squad. Have a look on BBC 606 - the fans are turning against him.

He's had £280 million to spend. £280 MILLION!

No excuse really. He should go now. Liverpool's season is over and in my opinion they should get someone new in now to freshen things up a bit, maybe do a bit of transfer dealing whilst the window's still open and try to secure a top four place.

On TV last night the commentator mentioned that it would cost £13 million to get rid of Benitez. It'll possibly cost them a lot more to keep him.

Liverpool look so very, very poor.

Dead man walking.

Yeah but out of that £280 million if you look at the players that are still at the club who have proven there worth then that figure decreases quite abit but no excuses Rafa has brought in some utter shit.

Its because there are only two real Liverpool players in the team, scoursers, Gerrard and Carragher.

The players that arn't scouse don't understand what it means for Liverpool not to win anything, where as it does to Gerrard and Carragher.

As a fan then, what would you do? Stick with Rafa or bring someone else in and who would you like?

Check this site out which shows Benitez' transfers

http://www.liverweb.org.uk/benitez.asp

It shows that Benitez has brought in 98 players and released 81. That's an unbelievable turnover of players over 5 years.

He's continually searching for something that he obviously hasn't found yet.

Have you looked at this list? How many names do you recognise? 20? You think myabe a load of them might have been signed as kids and moved on? Like every other club in the Prem they filter through a lot of possibles.

In terms of big names he has made some mistakes, but so have all the other managers.

Unless they want to blow £13M getting rid and another load getting in Mourinho I don't see the point.

Benitez always left himself open with his 'squad' buys and non support of their youth system. That said he's overspent on some good or average players. The Johnson signing was baffling for the price. You hardly need a world beater at right-back, to pay £19 million was obscene.

IMO he's what you'd call a very good coach but a poor manager. You can see why he was successful in Spain where a Sporting Director does transfers and the financial side of a football club.

EDIT: I can not believe that nearly £7 million for Lucas!!

Lucas is a pretty decent player and will end up proving it down the line somewhere. He's one of those players, much like Heurelho Gomes, who even after starting to play well still got criticised by the know nothing morons in the press for months until they belatedly admit that he's a good keeper.

Yeah and every team has a first XI full of local lads...

Carragher was a childhood Everton fan as a child as well.

And re Carragher, he's been an absolute liability for the last 2 seasons yet gets away with it by the virtue of being a "wholehearted grafter" or some other meaningless synonym.

Losing Alonso has proved that Liverpool are not just Torres and Gerrard.

Also signing that Italian lad for 20 million >_< Biggest waste of money ever spent. Can't even remember his name.

Alberto Aqualini, quality player, never worth 20 million though.

Never been a fan. Get rid.

Always been a fan. But without Torress and gerrard, they have nothing at all to offer and thats just shocking for a club like liverpool.

I dont think they can get rid though? will cost them 13m to sack him i was told...

But he should have the decency to resign...
