Team for Blackpool Away

just play the same team as against newcastle but with N'guessan/Solano/Dyer in for wellens and Oakley into the centre.

Oakley was in the centre, we played 451/433 against Newcastle. I do agree though. It also depends how bad Gallagher's injury is aswell.

I don't understand why a few of you have Oakley in a defensive midfield role. Against Newcastle he was our central attacking midfielder and put in about what was his best performance of the season. I desperately hope changes are kept to the minimum possible, with Solano (through lack of central options :/) replacing Wellens.

I think it is more important to realise that all 3 of our central midfielders pretty much played their 'natural' game, it was great to see Oakley get forward but King was almost as prominent and both did their share defensively. The way they closed down as a 'pack' of three was outstanding, Nolan, Smith and co had nowhere to go, outstanding.

If Gallagher is fit I would ask the three of then for a repeat performance and work on getting the front 3 working more as a unit. They showed promise before the sending off and I would dearly love it to continue!

As for bringing in Solano and going back to 4-4-bloody2, please no, no, no.. >_< >_<

Completely agree! The 451/433 formation worked very well definsively and offensively until the sending off. I hope they try it again at Blackpool to see if it can work for a whole match.

I too don't want a change of formation btw. I don't really want Solano in, but I think he'd probably be just about the best bet for a straight replacement for Wellens as we don't have any more centre mids (unless I've completely forgotten someone).

I'd choose this (the exact same set-up as Newcastle):

Weale

Morrison

Hobbs

Brown

Berner

DM: King

DM: Solano?

AM: Oakley

Gallagher

Waghorn

Fryatt

Is now the right time to remind everyone that I have been banging on about playing this way since the autumn??

No, thought not....... :giggle: :giggle:

I read somewhere that Bruce can also play DM! Hopefully this is not the case. He is a defender and should not be played further forward, i remember a certain Patrick Kisnorbo who was played in that role..........

Paul Gallagher and Yann Kermorgant are injury concerns for Leicester ahead of the trip to Championship play-off rivals Blackpool.

Gallagher had to be substituted midway through the second half of the goalless draw against Newcastle on Saturday evening after sustaining a calf injury, while Kermorgant has suffered a hamstring problem in training.

The Foxes are hopeful that Gallacher will recover in time for the weekend but Kermorgant looks likely to miss out.

"We were concerned about Paul when he came off but I expect him to be okay," said assistant manager Craig Shakespeare.

"I think the effort he has put in during the last three games has eventually taken its toll.

"Yann picked up an innocuous hamstring injury in training. We don't expect him to be out too long but Blackpool could be too soon."

If Pearson wants to keep the 4-3-3 which i'd like to see i'd imagine it would be the same XI maybe with Solano or Bruce moved into Wellens position. Or Gallagher moved into the middle with N'Guessan or Dyer on the wing.

If not i would imagine it would the same XI as Newcastle with Dyer or N'Guessan for Wellens with Oakley and King in the middle and Gallagher on the other wing.

What would be your team for Blackpool away, after an excellent performance against Newcastle?

I'd go with-

Weale

Morrison --- Brown --- Hobbs --- Berner

King

Solano -------------------------- Dyer

Gallagher

Fryatt ---- Waghorn

Subs: Logan, McGivern, Bruce, Nguessan, Oakley, Howard, Kermorgant

Not convinced that Solano is fit enough to start to be honest.

Jesus, some people never learn.... :frusty:

We played 4-3-3 on saturday and the reason we were so decent is because, for once we played it right!

What made it right? This!

Oakley, King and Wellens (Gallagher too) played narrow and played as a unit, they defended together and went forward together, each playing pretty much their natural game, none of this 'I'm attacking mid, you're defensive mid bollox'. Oakley's attacking play has received plaudits but defensively he was just as good, King got forward well too, almost winning us the game with a header that Butt (I think?) cleared off the line with his arm.

Playing strikers in the wide positions is right too, they are not there to be wingers but to attack the box and support the center forward.

Defensively they are required to drop wide and cover their full back, that is all.

Wahhorn and N'Guessan are perfect for this role, they are pacy and carry a goal threat when deployed in forward positions. They can play either side but I would prefer N'Guessan on the left mainly because Fryatt likes to pull out there on occasion, so Danni can cut into the center and give the opposition centerbacks a different set of problems.

Every player can pretty much play their natural game, the wide men attack the box and Gallagher gets the creative role he always wanted for the price of a little bit of defensive work.

Whats not to like?

Surprised you don't want Oakley dropped.

well its a toss of a coin over whose playing better him or Wellens plus Wellens is banned so there isn't any other option is there

I liked the system we played on Saturday but as Gally might be injured and Wellens suspnded it leaves us a little short in the center.

Do you keep with the system and take a punt on Bruce doing a job? or maybe push Berner up to Mid and Powell slots in at LB?

Weale

Morrison--Hobbs--Brown--Berner

Oakley---Bruce---King

Waghorn---------------------N'guessan

Fryatt

Or go with a more traditional 4-4-2

I agree. You pretty much nailed it tbh.

It's so fooking obvious it bloody hurts.

How many times have we heard people asking for players not to be played out of position?

Time and time again they ask for players to play their natural game, then, when they do and it works really well they want to change it all around.
