StanSP Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 When's the date for Capello's final 23-man selection?
Uncle Albert Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Probably use Walcott as both. Although we all know he just isn't a midfielder... Yeah - I have been thinking about my 23 and I change a player all the time but this 23 is it the final one. 1. Rob Green 2. David James 3. Ben Foster 4. Glen Johnson 5. Wes Brown 6. John Terry 7. Rio Ferdinand 8. Matthew Upson 9. Michael Dawson 10. Ashley Cole 11. Leighton Baines 12. Aaron Lennon 13. Steven Gerrard 14. Frank Lampard 15. Gareth Barry 16. James Milner 17. Joe Cole 18. Jermaine Jenas or Scott Parker 19. Wayne Rooney 20. Emile Heskey 21. Jermaine Defoe 22. Theo Walcott 23. Peter Crouch
StanSP Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Replace Walcott with Crouch, take out Brown for someone, and that would be my squad. Not too sure on Foster either. But then not sure who his replacement would be.
Joe. Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Mine at the moment would be: GKs David James --- Rob Green --- Joe Hart DFs Glen Johnson --- John Terry --- Rio Ferdinand --- Ashley Cole Wes Brown --- Matthew Upson --- Wayne Bridge MFs Aaron Lennon - Steven Gerrard --- Frank Lampard --- Gareth Barry Joe Cole --- Adam Johnson --- James Milner --- Scott Parker STs Wayne Rooney --- Emile Heskey --- Jermain Defoe --- Peter Crouch -- Theo Walcott
dandannieldanok Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Uncle and Joe....................Wes Brown!?! Would rather take Wayne Brown personally.
Uncle Albert Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Shit I forgot Crouch, take Bent out of mine and that is it. Brown will go as the second choice right back Dan, nobody else really.
StanSP Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 If we did take Brown, teams would instantly identify him as the weak link in our team.
Samilktray Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Cant see why anyone would wanna take Crouch over Bent. Bent scores more goals, Crouch is a hideous footballer to watch.
Uncle Albert Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 If we did take Brown, teams would instantly identify him as the weak link in our team. Doesnt mean he will play because he has made it into the squad, he is decent enough option to have because he can play in two positions across the back. Capello doesnt seem to rate Richards so Brown is the perfect choice in this sense.
lildave3 Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Seriously, Wes Brown isn't as bad as some make out. Although nothing is as bad as Dandanieldannok ever makes out.
CosbehFox Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Cant see why anyone would wanna take Crouch over Bent.Bent scores more goals, Crouch is a hideous footballer to watch. Crouch is however a rather awkward player for these international defences. I'd take him.
dandannieldanok Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Crouch should be starting never mind questions over whether he should be taken, goalscoring record speaks for itself.
Samilktray Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 I'll stick to Rooney with either Heskey or Defoe thankyou.
sdb Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Did someone say Jermaine Jenas?!!??? Crouch deserves to go but I'm not at all convinced he can cut it against the top teams. I'd be happy to see Downing go too. Our best natural left sided player, he gets some undeserved stick imo.
Asha Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 I'd definitely take Darren Bent or Agbonlahor rather than Walcott. David Dunn?
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 In the couple of squads I've seen, no-one's picked Beckham as part of their squad? He's got to be worth the plane journey hasn't he?
Corky Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 In the couple of squads I've seen, no-one's picked Beckham as part of their squad? He's got to be worth the plane journey hasn't he? I'd be majorly surprised if Beckham doesn't go.
goose2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Beckham to me is a must, maybe he wont get in the team but he will take all the press coverage and paparazzi's will just wants pictures of him, which will take a lot of pressure off the others.....as long as they all stop shagging each others misses and give the press no reason to report on them. Plus he is a good ten minute man to come on and either kill off a game or put through a world cup winning pass. If everyone is fit my squad would be........ James,Green,Hart A.Cole,Terry,Ferdinand,Baines,Richards,G. johnson, M Upson Lampard,Gerrard,Beckham,Barry,Lennon,Milner,Downing,Adam Johnson Rooney,Heskey,Crouch,Bent,Defoe
Uncle Albert Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 As much as I love Beckham and I would love to see him at the World Cup, he isnt a must go, Becks isnt getting in the AC side at the minute and Capello isnt going to see much of him in person I dont think for him to get a spot, out of the options on the right I think Lennon and Milner are above Beckham at the minute, unfortunetly. Milner and Lennon have had brilliant seasons in a World Cup year. I really want to see Scott Parker in the squad as cover for Lampard, Barry and Gerrard.
Big Ol' Bob Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 In terms of strikers, I think everyone is forgetting Carlton Cole. He has had a solid season and needs to be on the plane to SA in my opinion, against Holland he showed what class he has in holding the ball up and creating chances for himself from his strength and first touch. I'd have him in there purely on the basis he has been scoring goals regular for West Ham this term, and he is starting week in week out. Would offer so much to bring on to a tiring defense. Rooney, Defoe, Heskey and Crouch would be my other forwards. D.Bent, Agbonlahor and Walcott would have to fight it out with C.Cole for that last spot up front for me unless of course Capello takes another. Anything can happen between now and the end of the season though, but for me Cole has the advantage.
Uncle Albert Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 I'd have him in there purely on the basis he has been scoring goals regular for West Ham this term, and he is starting week in week out. I think you need to have a look at his goal scoring records and appearences this season to show yourself that your wrong.
Big Ol' Bob Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Carlton Cole - 8 goals in 17 starts this season. Not that bad really, for someone who would be sitting on the bench for most of the tournament. Certainly better than 1 goal in 12 starts Walcott who everyone keeps including upfront?
Tommeh Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Really hope Becks goes and i'm pretty confident he will too. Micah Richards would be my preffered back up right back. It's clear Lennon's got the better of SWP and I think Milner's a great should with decent versatility across midfield. Hope Darren Bent gets in too. Although Rooney, Crouch, Heskey and Defoe are all nailed on, it's whether Capello will take the 5th striker, got a feeling he'll go with Walcott however to get another wide man in there. Oh and if Stuart fu cking Downing goes I'm supporting Algeria.
Uncle Albert Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 Carlton Cole - 8 goals in 17 starts this season. Not that bad really, for someone who would be sitting on the bench for most of the tournament.Certainly better than 1 goal in 12 starts Walcott who everyone keeps including upfront? Yes you said he is starting every week, no he's not, he has just comeback from injury and has missed 9 games, which is alot. Yes but Walcott offers you something else than Cole who will bring you the same as Crouch and Heskey hold the ball up and lay it off to Rooney but the difference with Heskey and Crouch is that they are proven at International level. Why do we need to take 3 target men? So Rio Ferdinand can do what he is good at and smash is 50 yards?
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 15 February 2010 Posted 15 February 2010 James,Green,HartA.Cole,Terry,Ferdinand,Baines,Richards,G. johnson, M Upson Lampard,Gerrard,Beckham,Barry,Lennon,Milner,Downing,Adam Johnson Rooney,Heskey,Crouch,Bent,Defoe No Carrick? Solid performer at the Champions League Level, and is surely someone you can't discount? Joe Cole, Ashley Young and Gabby Abologonhor isn't in you're squad either. And when you consider that is a pretty strong squad anyway, it makes the chance of suprises that more remote. And to be honest, I'd rather have Owen than Defoe. There's just something about Defoe that makes me feel he's not a good fit with the England squad and the way Capello wants us to play. That said, Capello is not taking Owen, especially if he can't get any games. Maybe Kevin Phillips can have a good run in the team and get some goals to warrent a place in the squad! Hmmmm suprise, suprise... Liam Ridgewell and Jack Rodwell might have an outside chance to do something. Jenas and Huddlestone may also hope to impress, but I wouldn't favour them.
