That's why I go to watch football. Not to be lulled into a stupor by some non event.

How Gallagher deserves the 10-rating I'm going to give him. Three goals and an assist is special in any grade of professional football and how I wish he'd bullseyed that 35-yard open goal near the end to collect a candidate for goal of the season.

What a joy it was to see City marauding forward and regularly committing five and six people into the box.

They got up S****horpe's arses from the start and metaphorically gang-banged the lot of em.

You'd perhaps think of it as a great team effort and I suppose everyone deserves some credit. But, for me therewereseveral outstanding individuals.

Gallagher just revelled in it. Almost all he touched turned to gold and there were a lot of touches quite apart from the goals and assists. In fact he didn't even play as what I'd call an out and out striker. One minute he was curling balls in from the right wing, then he was interchanging passes in midfield and then there was the climax of his so-deft lofted header to make amug of the Scunny goalkeeper.

But he wasn't our only hero. Waghorn was a warrior. Immense. Time and again he made a yard on his marker to retain possession or clip a telling pass. Then there were searching crossfield balls to Dyer and, of course, his own important goal and his assist for Morrison after his intelligent run had been brilliantly picked out by King.

Scunny never breathed easy in Waghorn's presence and I had it down as his best performance by far since he arrived here.

In midfield another contributory goalmaker, Andy King, orchestrated so much along with the back-to-form Wellens and then there was Dyer providing the width, so many searching runs, a share of shots, one assist and finally being disappointed when the referee inexplicably robbed him of an odds-on goal chance as he burst completely clear of the visiting defence.

But no matter. It was almost the perfect day and certainly one of the very best 45 minutes I can remember under Pearson. It's not often we've scored five goals in recent years anyway though quite why we came over all uncertain at the start of the second half I've no idea.

But suddenly - and right up to the S****horpe goal, we stopped breaking fast from defence and pressing the ball however far it was upfield. Alongside me the inexplicable tactic was emphasised by a fan screaming "That's right, lads, keep it tight".

In the bedroom I can wellunderstand the attractions of atight woman but what the hell tightness has to do with football whenyou're 4-0 up because you're committed to attack, I don't know. But Scunny scored, City took a different attitude and started coming out of their shells again and after Gallagher's finale it was only a matter of whether we got the sixth goal the crowd wanted or not.

Congratulations all round and thanks to the City lads for a terrific day out.

Just got back from the game and all I have to see is what a performance, apart from the start of the second half i have to say we were absolutely brilliant. Gallaghers free kick was excellent, people always say we need to get goals from set pieces and we got 2 today, Great performace!

Obviously delighted and echo many people's opinions on today's game.

Would also like to say that I was really pleased with the substitutions today.

Kermorgant's introduction allowed us to grab a stranglehold of the game again as we were finally able to challenge Rob Jones in the air. He should have shot when he was played through instead of laying it off behind Waghorn, but it didn't matter.

Putting Solano on at right-back was intriguing but may well work out in the long-run because there have been countless games this season where our play had become so lop-sided giving Morrison or Neilson acres of space which they'd waste by failing to deliver a telling cross. Perhaps Solano could change that. Obviously it remains to be seen how well he defends and if he can get forward and track back quickly all game but the way he uses the ball effectively and wisely makes him an astute acquisition in my book. Not saying MM should be dropped because I think he's absolutely brilliant and deserves his place 100%.

And N'Guessan's appearance just gave us the opportunity to thank Gallagher for putting in such a virtuoso shift. :D

It was Waghorn, was brilliant cus some **** behind me was moaning about our striker taking the free kick and how stupid it was only for Waggy to pick out Morrison perfectly

I want to watch the highlights.

NOW. lol

Quality result, great game. Who'd thought we'd perform this well without Fryatt, eh?

Bring on Bristol City.

The future's bright, the future's Leicester.

I did for one! Have said for weeks that Gally is our best striker AND our most natural striker. 3 goals and an assist God love him!

We could have had several more! lol

Loved it!

Was that the first 5 goal game since Sunderland and Collymore?

Yup. :)

Been a long time coming, that was probably ten years ago!

Why are people saying Gallagher scored 3 and got 2 assists? He didn't assist either of the others..

He did assist the 4th goal - just saw it again on SSN

Apparently it was the first time we've scored 5 at the Walkers. I'm not sure if there any between 2000 (Sunderland) and 2002 when Filbo closed though.

Really pleased for Gallagher.

Come in for a lot of unfair criticism, and I'm delighted he's bagged the hat-trick.

Waghorn and Gallagher should be a decent partnership without Fryatt. Steve, love him as I do, can stay on the bench please.

A bit reluctant to say it given Fryatt's situation and the considerable contribution he has made to our achievements so far this season but I wasn't altogether surprised that we seemed to gel better in our attacking today.

Itmay be pure conincidence but, not withsanding his goals, I've always considered Fryatt a difficult and unpredictable player to be alongside.

Times I've seen people make runs and get frustrated by not getting the ball. It's not that Fryatt cannot play the sort of one-twos that open defences. It's just that he's so focused on what he might make happen himself that he sometimes just doesn't play them.

Today when players did run into space they seemed to get the ball on a fair number of occasions. We also seemed to have more people making a real effort to get into the box. Perhaps they were subconsciously making up for the absence of Fryatt, Idon't know, but it did increase the passing opportunities and the chances of someone, anyone, getting on the end of things.

Long may it continue whatever.

Can we try and not get carried away by one very good result. You're making the above conclusion based on one game without Fryatt, it can still all go wrong without him in the next four games or so. Just as we shouldn't over react when we lose or hit a bad patch, you can't go the other way either.

Fingers crossed we can get a little more carried away on Tuesday, when playing a Bristol City side that must be bereft of confidence (and I think the boss has lost his head and is not in it at the moment, following his offer resignation after the Cardiff mauling).
