With regards to the play-offs the semi finals would be 5 times better than the final itself in my opinion especially if we got Forest it would absolutely unreal.

Obviously winning the FA Cup got my vote. Look at Pompey, 6 seasons now they've been up there and they're highlight of that period? Not scraping 17th, 13th or wherever in the most overated, commercialised league in the word but winning in my opinion the best cup competition going.

FA cup - What's the statistic most FA cup finals without a win, would love to see that changed.

A cup can never be taken away from the club, premiership football can. I've been to 4 play off finals and they were all great, some less so than others, and 2 worthy cup finals and 1 replay. The 2 moments that stand out for me are Claridge (obviously) and Heskey in the first match against Boro, after that goal I knew we would win the replay and seeing Leicester lift the trophy at Hillsborough was incredible. It's not often anyone outside an elite few win anything of note in England, and for a while it made me feel like we were part of it. Add playing in Europe to the equation and it really is a no-brainer for me, I've seen us win the play offs, I've seen us play in the prem, and I've seen us play in Europe. I have never seen us win the FA Cup, and neither has anyone else.

Seeing as we are out of the FA cup this year, I'll take a playoff final victory and win the FA Cup next year.

44% say play-offs, maybe a little post from them would help the thread along.

Also surprises me a bit thats the cups ahead considering the "not fussed about the cup" "need to focus on league" "glad we're out" reactions on here pre and post Cardiff, allied to the 12k attendance against Swansea in the 3rd round.

Bit of conforming going on in my opinion.

FA Cup is 1 game.

Playing in the Premiership is playing against some of the best players week in week out.

Not fussed about cup competitions that much, League Cup is irrelevant and the FA Cup isnt what it once was. Itd be great to win the FA Cup yeah, but testing yourselves against the best should be the big goal for any team in the football league.

True, there was plenty of "celebrating" the fact we were out of the cup, irritated the fuck out of me.

The FA Cup is the biggest competition in England so to win that would be bloody massive but being a Championship club is pretty hard when you could be mixing it with the bigboys everyweek, surely the incentive to play 38 games in the best league in the world is a much bigger achievement? Well for me it is anyway, you have to think about this on a financial level, isnt winning the Championship play-off final the most profitable match in football? (something like that anyway)

Yes going up through the play-offs would mean City would be strong favourites to go down but surely the attraction of the Premier League would make it worth it.

Football for me isn't about money.

Even with all that money it's still not enough to make a team competitive, it's money and fans/clubs chasing it that's the ruination of football and making it uncompetitive.

Winning the FA Cup would be a far greater achievement as well.

From Bentley's

Since the inception of the Premier League the following sides have won the cup:

Man Utd 4

Liverpool 2

Arsenal 4

Chelsea 3

Everton 1

Portsmouth 1

In fact since 1980/81 only Spurs, Cov and Wimbledon can be added to that list. In only 6 seasons out of the last 29 has one of Utd, Liverpool, Arsenal and Chelsea not lifted the cup.

Yeah fair enough if you think football isnt about money but in this modern era of football, money is everything.

With all due respect though I doubt there are many football fans who follow the sport in hope of their club one day attaining a reasonable credit rating or whatever.

But I'm sure most would give an arm and a leg to see there team trying to compete with the big boys.

I also doubt there arent many fans that wouldnt jump at the chance to be in the Premier League, which some will disagree with but the EPL is the best League in the world, sorry. You may not agree with this which is fair enough, I just think that maybe if you asked this question down at the Walkers at a home game then it would be alot closer than the poll currently sugggests.

It's not also about credit ratings and being more financially stable, its about what players you can bring in with bigger transfer budgets and higher wage bills, yeah you arent going to like this either but ticket prices will increase because of being in the Premier League which creates more money for the club which will eventually hopefully make Leicester a more stable club in the Premier League.

Surely any Leicester fan would rather have some of the highs of the 90's under O'Neill than stay in the Championship.

Well except that's not what I said and of course it's now about money and that's what's ruining it.

The fact that when you talk about winning the play-offs, which themselves were introduce purely to generate money all you focus on is how much money we'll get and as I said as massive as it is it's still not enough to allow you to compete, so then the talk is of a richer benefactor and so it goes on.

Well surely Leicester are evidence to show that you can compete in the Premier League by going up through the play-offs? Leicester went to Wembley another 3 times after being promoted into the Premier League and were in the League for a number of years after going up, yes it may of ended in relegation but there are teams still in the Premier League now who have gone up through the play-offs and have been in the League for a number of years.

But the FA Cup is a major trophy. As someone said earlier in the thread, Leicester are never going to win the league so The Cup is our best chance of grabbing glory. There's no glory in finishing mid table in the top flight year after year (if we're lucky enough to get a squad strong enough to do that).

And you're right, I wouldn't like the inevitable ticket price hike because it would price me (and countless others) out of watching Leicester play. The amount of games I could afford to go to would probably be half of what it is at present.

Don't get me wrong, of course I want Leicester to do well, and of course I wouldn't moan if we were to get promoted, but in this instance the benefits of winning The Cup far outweigh the benefits of promotion.

Yes I totally agree with it being a major trophy I started my opinion off in this thread by saying this but I personally dont agree with the Leicester never winning the League comment, I was asked not so long ago by a friend and Tevez off here was there and we were asked if we think Leicester will ever win the League in my life time I answered yes. Anything can happen in football, look at Man City, when they were in the old division two in the 90's if someone had said to them you would be the richest club in the world in 2010 they would of laughed at you.

Hmm, I think that all the romantics out there would say FA Cup, the pragmatists would say promotion.

Personally I would love to see us make history and win the FA Cup for the first time. The manner of promotion also makes me vote FA Cup, if we won the FA Cup there would be no worrying about whether we were good enough for the prem, the selling off of fan favourites and the inevitable purchases of "experienced" players (read as old). If we won the play-off final then it would mean there were at least 2 teams better in than us in the Champo, probably more. However, if we won the Championship it would mean that there would be 2 teams in the prem that are worse than we are, therefore we only need one other team to have a shocker of a season and we stay up :D We would also get more money for being champs. Finally Leicester have never one the second division since I've been supporting them, so that would also be great to see.

But I am a romantic and the cup is for romantics, and I would love to be there at Wembley the day we win the FA Cup. I wouldn't swap it for anything there is nothing like an all or nothing game to get the adrenaline going.

FA Cup!

The biggest club cup competition in the world, a free pass to europe.

Having said that, IF we had a side capable of being truly competetive (eg top 10) in the prem league, then maybe i could be swayed.

Imagine being able to watch my team on TV EVERY week, instead of the wonderful experirence of Stringer and Iraqigoals on occasion.

We can but dream :)

this is the main thing though, the fa cup, although provider of one of the greatest days of the year (3rd round day), has lost it's charm, it's not the greatest competition on earth anymore but, despite what people say, neither is the premiership.

The premiership is a boring, predictable league and tbh i prefer the excitment the Football league brings.

Overall i'd say the play-off just shades it .

As a one-off occasion, of course it would have to be winning the FA Cup. It's probably every English football fan's childhood dream (at least, those of a certain age - maybe the younger ones these days will look at the Champions League as a potential achievement now that it's more widely televised and open to clubs finishing all the way down to fourth in the Premiership).

However, if offered the choice for next season (or this, retrospectively) then why would anyone take it over winning in the play-off final and therefore guaranteeing promotion? Being honest, if Leicester won the FA Cup as a Championship team then everyone would call it the death sentence for that competition and say it had finally been devalued by the bigger teams taking no interest. I seriously doubt we'd get praised on merit (and why would we, if we couldn't get promotion from this division).

I don't think there's anything to be scared of if we were to achieve promotion this season or next - Stoke, Hull, Burnley, Wigan, Birmingham etc have shown that "smaller" teams can survive, prosper and potentially challenge for honours with a bit of luck, belief and sustained support. So I don't think there's an argument that "we're not ready" for promotion. I would far rather that we were back up there than having a cup run and one (glorious) day in the sun to look back on, followed by another season scratching around against the Peterboroughs and the S****horpes.

It's a no-brainer alright - has to be promotion.

The biggest competition in England isn't the FA cup, but the Premiership (and as well as the FA cup, we also haven't topped the highest league yet).

So we kill 2 birds with one stone. Promotion via the play-offs this year, then next year we win the Prem, picking up the FA cup on the way.

It's a happy planet I live on!
