Radio Leicester / Stringer Banned

Recommended Posts

It's not just Ian Stringer/BBC Leicester though is it, he banned the fans visiting the training ground and he's pushing us away even more with his latest stunt - Mandaric's worst nightmare.

I sit in front of a lady who actually works for lcfc (she does the tours) and she told me weeks ago that NP likes to keep things proffessional that is why you cannot go to the training ground, she said he doesnt want distractions while the players are training.

Cant see the problem to be honest :dunno:

After a home game, most of us will climb back into our cars, bang the radio on and listen to what NP has to say, and what the players think of the game. It'd be sad to see this go, as I enjoy listening to the radio on the way home.

Yes and also listen to the crap that people say if we dont win

Vital Football on the case

Local radio station shunned

BBC Radio Leicester were banned from asking any questions at today's press conference.

The bizarre turn of events was revealed to fans on presenter Ian Stringer's Twitter page, the former-Apprentice star saying: 'BBC Radio Leicester have not been allowed to ask questions at the Leicester City press conference today.'

It is thought that manager Nigel Pearson reacted negatively to questions about his lack of activity in the technical area in City's last two matches, Stringer apparently unaware of Pearson's recent back problems.

Stringer also revealed news about winger Lloyd Dyer's possible return from injury tomorrow evening, another reason as to why the club could be unimpressed.

With Pearson seemingly annoyed by questions asked by Stringer on a match-by-match basis it is perhaps an unsurprising conclusion, but whatever the reasons, fans of the club will hope that this petty issue can be resolved soon enough.

if the club has got the arse because radio leicester or the mercury dared to ask them some searching questions then thats too bad!

after years of non sensical match reporting by the merc its good that someone ie, stringer, is prepared to risk upsetting someone. why not? he is a journalist, thats his job.as a supporter of the club i'd love to know the reasons why certain things happen and who is injured etc.

Yep, i totally agree with this.

I love City. I really do. But the day I get upset because I can't see the team training is the day I realise I just have to give it up.

She's a lovely lady, but I wouldn't get my inside info from her, to be fair.

I can see why the manager doesn't want fans at the training ground, and it's nothing to do with distractions. Modern technology is the thing that would concern me. I mean, I wouldn't want to trying out a new thing, only to find it dealt with easily on the following Saturday because a fan hasn't thought about what he or she was doing when they innocently uploaded a video to youtube.

Or tweeted a comment.

Or posted on a forum like this.

Like she said he is a proffessional and keeps things private

It's well known that Pearson's one of the least media friendly managers around. Something like this was always likely to happen.

It's not his style and if he feels that being excessively media friendly affects his management and thus his squad, then he's every right to do this. It just sadly means that it alienates us as fans from the ins and outs of the club a little bit more, and the poor journalists charged with covering City have to work a damn sight harder to come up with stories that people want to read!

It's understandable for Nige to be pissed off, he's probably in a foul mood anyway because of his back. Listening to Stringer's 'deep deep trouble' comments, coming barely a week after he was blabbering on about being play-off certainities, is a bit akin to poking a bear with a pointy stick.

Vital Football on the case

Is it really that newsworthy?

No offence Joe or whoever the guy at vital is, but making a non story more accessible to fans just adds unnecessary negativity around the club.

I really don't see the big deal. If it's based on Stringer and his comments on Nigel in the technical area on Saturday I don't blame them. Stringer was making assumptions and then made a big deal out of not seeing Nigel when it really wasn't relevant. It even started threads on here with people worried about Nigel all because of that.

I like Stringer and think he does a good job but he made a mistake in that game by glorifying an elusive story. You can't really blame him though he's just a fan at the end of the day and sometimes this overcomes his professional side.

If it's nothing to do with that then oppps :giggle: But I still stand by my original comment and don't think it's really worthy of it's own story.

Funnily, I don't feel alienated at all. Maybe I'm showing my age, but I can remember the days when the only real coverage was in the Mockery, and that was crap, and City played second fiddle to the Tiggers on RL.

For me, what happens on the pitch is the important thing. It's interesting to see that this player doesn't get on with that player, or that someone doesn't pull his weight in training, or whatever. But as long as they play well on a Saturday (or Friday, or Tuesday....), I couldn't really care less. It seems to me that these days, people want to know the ins and outs of every other bugger's lives, when there are more important things to worry about.

Spot on.

Stringer's better than average, but he still feels he "has to ask, Nigel, because the fans want to know..." all sorts of crappy questions that frankly I neither give a shit about nor have any right to know about. If Nigel wants to tell us why he made certain selections or strategic decisions then that's fascinating, but I don't have any right to demand the information, or have a journo do it for me. The best sports journalists don't waste their time on this trivia, they write about the sport they love, and give those who weren't at games the feeling that we were right there in the thick of it. That's what I want sports journos to do, not interrogate players or managers as though they're exposing some outrageous scandal on Panorama.

Talking to the media is obviously seen as being part of a manager's job, but personally I think if there's even the tiniest suggestion that it's a distraction from running the team then ducking out of it is fair enough

You may not feel isolated and I certainly don't as my only contact with Radio Leicester and Stringer is to listen to the match commentary occasionally but there are plenty of people out there that do, housebound people some who find this their only contact point with LCFC.

Let's remember also that as far as I'm aware it's LCFC that calls the press conferences and Mandaric certainly had no qualms about using the media in a less than honest way to help secure his purchase of LCFC, to whip up ticket sales, to tease the fans with his wishful signings and to sweeten his character prior to his up coming court case.

I'm personally not bothered but it still strikes me as a completely childish gesture and I find it a disappointing response from a man I've grown to respect and a club that's in my blood.

Will we see the Merc banned fro giving WBA an early indication of player availabilitydunno.gif

Influential defender Bruno Berner should return to the Leicester City side for today's vital clash with West Bromwich Albion.

The Swiss left-back has been sidelined with a calf strain since scoring the winner in the 1-0 victory at Crystal Palace just over two weeks ago, and City have picked up only one point from the last four games in his absence.

Ryan McGivern and Chris Powell have deputised and Robbie Neilson was drafted in as a makeshift left-back at Cardiff City on Tuesday night after McGivern was taken ill, but Berner's return will provide City with a much-needed boost.

In addition, Wayne Brown and Lloyd Dyer are both available again after calf strains to face automatic promotion favourites Albion, and McGivern has recovered from illness, but Nolberto Solano is definitely out with a thigh strain.

I got some hot news!!!

Dyer will be............*gets slapped by Nigel Pearson, gagged and thrown in the boot of his car*
