AmericanScott Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 So, fess up people. Who smokes? I can safely put my hand up. I always try to quit but i find it way too hard. Especially when i'm at work. I take at least 10 fag breaks per day. (you'll usually find me outside Powerplay talking to the Big Issue guys ) Smokers, what's you're preferred posion? Me? Gotta be Sterling king size. Cheap and tastes nice. Discuss
Fox You Forest Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 I do, the brand varies to whatever I can get my hands on at the cheapest price from some random country. Favourite position? probably the Blumplestiltskin
Darkzzz_ Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 I used to be a social smoker when I was a teen but I haven't hit up any fags since 2005/06.
Jay Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 I'm the worst kind of smoker and EX Smoker! it's a disgusting habit, I detest it being blown in my face, makes you stink like you wouldn't believe and f**ks your health up big style! I really don't understand with all the education and information and the facts (even though I knew about them before) and the fact it's about £7.00+ a pack why on earth young people start these days

I gave up after I put on loads of weight and was trying to get back into football. However, my poison was Johnny Player Specials or Dutch Light rolling tobacco

I hate smoking near non-smokers as i feel bad. I guess it's the thrill of "this is killing me. Gnarly" mentality. I've tried giving up a few times. Back in September i gave up for 3 whole days! Lived off the nicotine gum. But a pack of 10 fags was cheaper at 2.50 than the gum at 7. I would really like to quit in the next couple of months. How do people do it?
lcfc"weasel" Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 I'll have the occasional fag but only when with friends, makes me cough like fook for a few days after though.
jonthefox Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 Im a roll me own person. If i had to spend £6.50 a day on fags, i`d quit tomorrow. Btw , has anyone had that champix from thier gp?. Apparently it failed in anti depressant drug trails, but it does make you stop the fags.
Samilktray Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 People who criticise smoking are probably the same people who go out and get smashed every weekend, and drinking has gotta be as bad for you in some ways as smoking. I smoke purely because I quite enjoy it, a beer n a cigarette down the pub, I'm a fan.
AoWW Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 Used to smoke but I was one of those annoying people who could pretty much stop and start whenever I wanted to. Only time I ever really craved a cigarette was when I was out drinking and feeling a bit 'socially insecure'. Haven't had a cigarette for well over 18mths now - probably closer to 2 years. Must admit, the ban on smoking in pubs and clubs helped as I generally cba to go outside and stand in the rain and cold. I don't criticise those who do smoke though - it'd be pretty hypocritical considering I used to be like them. I do realise now how much it stinks... hate the smell and I'm not sure I could live with someone who smokes, either.
ACF Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 I hate smoking, dont drink, dont do drugs. What a life I have eh?

Apparently it failed in anti depressant drug trails, but it does make you stop the fags. I sat in on a pharmaceutical representative demonstration of Champix at a GP in Reddish when I was on placement there; the results are striking. I don't know the ins and outs of the drug too well but I know it saturates the same receptors in the brain that nicotine binds to, which means smoking a cigarette has almost no effect anymore.
Fosse Boy Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 I've smoked perhaps half a dozen cigars in my life, never tried a cigarette. Just don't see the point, I don't get anything out of it. Each to their own and all that as a lot of my mates smoke, just gets a tad annoying when you have to hang around the smoking area of a club with them if they all fancy a fag at the same time.

DB11 Posted 10 April 2010 Posted 10 April 2010 Seconded. I don't criticise people who smoke, but, perhaps they criticise it because it can be viewed as disgusting, what with the smell and toxins and the direct effect that it actually has on others, whereas alcohol does not directly effect other peple in a harmful manner.

What about drunk people starting unnecessary fights? What about drink driving? The hazards that drinking can have on other people more than likely outweigh smoking.. I smoke occansionally, more often that not when I have had a drink. I am not addicted or anything but similar to Samilktray said I just enjoy it now and again.

Also, having two mates whose dads are alcoholics, I think their childhoods would been effected in a lot less of a 'harmful manner' if their old mans just smoked 40 benson a day.
Phube Posted 11 April 2010 Posted 11 April 2010 But then 'Aggressive Drunks' are disgusting too... My personal belief is that ALL 15 year olds are forced to drink 5 pints of lager (under controlled circumstances) and then provoked. Anyone who turns into a twat should be tattooed on their forehead and never be allowed alcohol again! Solve all problem!

Or dads dying of lung cancer, emphysema, whatever, after years of smoking? These arguments can go round all day. Smoking, drinking, drugs, whatever, it's all harmful. There's enough people out there who want to spoil things for everyone else, regardless of their poison of choice. I have no problem with people who want to smoke, but I don't want to breathe it in, however the number of smokers flagrantly breaking the law really pisses me off. Having said that, I like a drink, and it really pisses me off when some tosser who can't their ale decides to ruin it for those of us having a good time. What can you do though?

Reckon the amount of people flouting the ban is very low considering how many people smoke. At the football aside, I can't really remember seeing anyone 'flagrantly' flouting the ban for months and months. It's certainly a lot more respected than the bans are in France/Italy/Portugal/Spain and I'd say there's probably far fewer breaking the law than in relation to road/football ground/alcohol/copyright etc legislation.

Apparently it failed in anti depressant drug trails, but it does make you stop the fags. It can supposedly be very effective, but it can have nasty side effects along the lines of messing up your mind a bit. My partner tried it last year, not long before we started going out, and she said it turned her into an emotional wreck, and had to stop it before it had any effect on her fag smoking. Supposedly it's been linked with suicides but whether there's any truth in this or it's just the usual media medical scare bollocks I know not. I'm certainly not trying to put people off giving it a go
