Rich Fox Posted 17 April 2010 Posted 17 April 2010 Solid game today against woeful opposition, hasn't impressed me that much to be honest though. Still very young though and needs to be given a chance. Wouldn't be in my starting 11 though. Are you on drugs?
Salieri Posted 17 April 2010 Posted 17 April 2010 You really have to take your hat off to the scouts/management at the club since NP took over. Every time we need a little something extra, they come up with the goods. They have worked the loan market particularly impressively. Last season Hobbs, Gilbert, Cleverley, Davies. This season Waghorn has proved to be an inspired loan signing, and just when we needed a bit of freshening up, Vaughan and Spearing were brought in, and that is paying dividends at the business end of the season. Nice work, and hopefully we can snap up one or two of them permanently in the summer.

Ozwin Posted 17 April 2010 Posted 17 April 2010 ^ You have the best sig on this site, it's a joy to see you post it really is.
Rorschach Posted 17 April 2010 Posted 17 April 2010 Told you you'd like him. Good to see him get on the scoresheet for you lads today. Hopefully that'll give him some more confidence now and he'll get even better before the season's out. The more he grows in confidence the more he'll give to you in terms of energy and commitment. That's basically his biggest asset. He may have been given a face like a slapped arse but it suits his style of play, like a little bulldog. Seems to be enjoying his time with you aswell, so good on him.

Candidcamera Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 My man of the match too. He is so enthusiastic and takes up great positions. He was such a good signing to boost the run in and it is difficult to see Oakley getting back into the team. It may be possible to get him for next year too. I don't know the situation but he is unlikely to break into the Liverpool team without more experience.
Ultra Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 As is fairly well-known (at least to Twitter and Mercury readers), I wasn't over-impressed by Spearing when he made his debut in the Reading game. But every credit to the lad for bouncing back, and playing an important role in not only yesterday's win but the two that preceded it. The goal was no more than his performance deserved. I suspect Oakley may have his work cut out to force his way back into City's midfield.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Another quality loan singing. Played very well yesterday.

Fox You Forest Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 His full debut was at Cardiff, which is where I'd really start judging him from. Anybody else notice the amount of times he rolls his foot over the ball when trying to trap it.
SemperEadem Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Oakley got out his car at about 2.15 with his wife and two kids. He didnt look injured and he looked pretty pissed off.

Oh well, if he'd been good this season he wouldn't need to look pissed off. Anyway, Spearing was brilliant yesterday, as already stated There's a great picture in the New of The World of an embrace between Spearing, Waghorn and Vaughn, and those three could/will make the difference for us in the run-in.
dandannieldanok Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Good performance from the lad yesterday and I certainly think he looked far more at home when Wellens was hauled off and took his place in the middle. Still unsure of him on the wing, it's not his fault because it's just not his position.

I suspect Oakley may have his work cut out to force his way back into City's midfield. And I had no idea where you got that from. I saw his debut and he was lively, constantly calling for the ball at his feet, getting in space and playing one touch passes that those around him were not really up to reading. I knew that Spearing was quality before he showed up at Leicester, I did not understand why people came out and judged him harshly on his first debut as a substitute. He was also in a goal scoring position in the penalty area but was not passed the ball....... I'm glad you've come round but I think people were way to quick to judge.

Especially as he's now only started about 6 games in his career, was playing with players he'd only just met and never played with, I really don't know what people expect but it's obviously way beyond what they should.
Koke Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 There's a great picture in the New of The World of an embrace between Spearing, Waghorn and Vaughn, and those three could/will make the difference for us in the run-in. We have explored the loan market incredibly well.

Hiya fellas Liverpool fan popping in to see how Jay's doing made up for him scoring yesterday Nick's comments sum him up nicely. As you've probably noticed by now he doesn't look the World's most natural athlete, but he's got a heart as big as the city and in 5 years of watching him come through the youth side I have NEVER ever seen him give anything less than 100% in a game one of the highlights of watching our reserves in recent years was Jay scoring a hat-trick to beat a strongish Bolton side almost on his own. One of the goals he hammered it back to make a last ditch tackle in our box with one of theirs through on goal, and then about 10 seconds later he'd somehow got up all the way back up the other end to score for us the bit about one touch passes not being read sounds spot on. I'm not sure British football is where he should be playing. He got Player of the Tournament out in Spain a few years ago and there were rumours Villarreal wanted him on loan then. Shame more players from this country don't have a go abroad. The national team would benefit I reckon judging by the comments I've been reading you lot seem to be playing a 4-3-3 which probably suits his game if it's narrow and the full backs push on, but won't if he's stuck out wide. Players with short legs and quick brains need to be in the thick of the action. Jay likes to play quick passes, often without looking as he knows where his teammates are. At Premiership level he's prone to making 2 or 3 mistakes a game because of this, but he'll learn. Sadly he got vilified for doing this at Sunderland but still ended up with pass completion of over 90%. That wasn't good enough for a lot of the whopper fans that follow us these days (don't ever win the Champions League). Playing for Leicester will bring him on a bomb in terms of confidence I think, especially if you can get promoted. He won't be used to 90 minutes of footie at Championship intensity so I'd expect him to gradually improve match-fitness-wise in the next month sadly I don't believe he'll ever be given a chance by Benitez. LFC might try to pull the wool over his eyes, so he hangs around filling in a home-trained spot for UEFA rules. If he's got any sense, he'll see through the BS and ask to move. Failing that, he should at least demand a season-long loan ; maybe to you if Pearson's happy to bring him in interesting to see Hobbs so popular (sounds nailed-on Player of the Season?). He looked a bit 'rabbit in headlights' for us. Should we have been more patient or has he found his level d'you reckon ? right, I'll leave y'all to your sexy Polish girls...(crossing fingers that's a standard site ad and isn't just showing for me based on my search history)
Bert Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 Spearing's no mug. Wouldn't be on the books at Liverpool if not. He's something different, offers us a variety of options with his versatility and I believe he wants to do well as well as he can, not just for himself but for us too. That's the sign of a decent player. He's always looking for the ball and looking to support the attack, and when we're defending he's always got his body back there and is one of the first to get back. Of course, he's going to have faults to his game but if he carries on like this it can only be good for us in the next few games. Our coaching staff see something in him, and he's put in a few decent performances in the last few games. You can't really ask for much more, unless you're an arrogant tosser.
samjohnson Posted 18 April 2010 Posted 18 April 2010 im still keeping to the rumours i hear that he is the new Stevie G... and it would be amazing to see him playing internationally one day, because he has some serious potential. Love to see Leicester sign him fully in the summer, but can see him in Liverpool's future plans to take over the Reserve leagues >.<

The Padster Posted 20 April 2010 Posted 20 April 2010 Liverpool are keeping close tabs on Spearing, but the bubbly Scouser could be available for about £1.5m this summer. Already promoted West Brom and Hull City are reportedly interested too. Pearson called Spearing "a young player desperate to prove himself and with plenty of potential". He has certainly been a welcome addition, as well as an upbeat influence on and off the field. Plus I had a dream he'll play super-sub at Wembley in a 3-2 injury-time triumph over Forest!
