Guest Mee-9 Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 I actually want to hear more of it. If it gets 20,000 supporters singing then it gets a thumbs up from me.
Shrenchel Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 It's alright that, pretty much what I was expecting. Hopefully they'll play it right before kick-off and not when most the crowd are in the pub still like they did with heroes in blue & white.
Clive Redman Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 Walshy's latest blog, talking a bit more about the recording of the song... "Paul Gallagher was one of the most enthusiastic performers, even if his voice wasn’t that polished. He certainly looked the part with the shades completing the indie look. But to be honest, as a rockstar, Gally makes a great free-kick taker!" http://www.soarmagazine.co.uk/2010/04/30/steve-walsh-blog-ou-only-sing-when-youre-smiling/

I recon they'll play it at half time and after the game aswell - after we win 3-0, Fryatt with the winner coming off the bench editted to say "aswell"

Well you better tell whoever has written the article about it then because he's gone and fvcked up by saying it's going to be played ahead of the game.
Ozwin Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 So is this song the way it's meant to be sung in the stands? I've never really heard When You're Smiling being sung and I hear it's more of an away day chant. Also @ Mandy's face in that pic.
Shrenchel Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 Nah in the stands you have to sing it 5 times as fast as this, mumble your way through the 3rd and 4th lines because you don't really know the words and then try and see just how many different variations of the hand actions the 100 people bothering to sing it can do.
The Padster Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 Mini interview with Brown n Jersey about it all. Gallaghers actions are hilarious, what a character. LCFC

Tony Pine Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 don't really see everyone singing it. would sound great if they did though
purpleronnie Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 I don't really understand the point? How on earth is a song like that going to be sung by fans? Weird.

Collymore Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 I don't really understand the point? How on earth is a song like that going to be sung by fans? Weird. I think the whole thing is so bizare! That sound clip is shiter than I thought it was going to be and I originally thought it was going to shite. Who the hell is Jersey anyway? He sounds like the Bulgarian geezer who did the karaoke on one of my holidays...
Shrenchel Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 The club was never going to play any of the older versions though because they're so obsessed with being modern and appealing to kids. I think it's definitely better to play this in the run-up to kick-off than the usual shit that's got fvck all to do with our club. Don't expect many people to sing along whilst it's actually being bashed out over the pa system but hopefully it'll teach more people the words and they'll join in when it does get going during games.
Edmund Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 At the end of the day even if nothing comes of the track and it doesn't take off, the lads have had a good bonding session which can't do any harm.
dandannieldanok Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 Sounds crap like that imo. When a fair few get it going in the ground its a very good song, but adding that music to it and changing it around a bit just sounds tacky. It's a terrace song, why does it have to be tarted up. Fair enough it's good for team bonding and everything, that's a great side to it, but that's as far as it should go.

To be honest I think it's good being tarted up as you've put it, Manchester Citys "Blue Moon" & Westhams " I'm forever blowing bubbles" sound decent enough to me being played on the terraces this way.... Seems to get the fans going http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MJLMcflYdLg Waits for a comment along the lines of "Why copy other clubs, lets be unique?"

jonthefox Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 could be a terrace hit. providing we learn the words and get in tune.

You're right, those two examples do kind of kickstart the singing at those grounds, but it's just not the kind of thing I'd personally welcome. Each to their own though.
iancognito Posted 30 April 2010 Posted 30 April 2010 I actually want to hear more of it. If it gets 20,000 supporters singing then it gets a thumbs up from me. You're living in a world of make believe 944, 20,000 fans will never sing together at a City game. It was difficult enough in the good old days to get pens 1 - 4 singing together in the Kop let alone the happy clappers in the West Stands & East Stands. These days, even the people who go in K & L aren't all there to sing up. The club killed the proper atmosphere with the new stadium layout and now it's trying to organise a singalong by wrecking the closest thing we have to an anthem.
