davieG Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 From the Merc Leicester City manager Nigel Pearson has identified his transfer targets for next season, but has drawn up two lists – one for the Championship and one for the Premier League. Pearson and his management team are already planning to strengthen the squad during the summer but their targets may change if City win the play-offs. He believes recruitment has been a key factor in City's success during the past two seasons and the hard work has already begun in identifying possible additions. Pearson has admitted they have not left a stone unturned, with the foreign markets also on the club's radar. He also confirmed that City will be looking to use the increasingly important loan market again after the success this season of temporary signings such as striker Martyn Waghorn. "Yes we have (a list) but we are planning for different scenarios because of our situation," he said. "It is not problematic, but it means a bit more thought goes into it and you work towards the best and worst-case scenarios. "It is essential to get recruitment right. You can't always get it right but as long as you do your homework it is important "Steve Walsh comes in with a huge portfolio. We have contacts in various places and it is about filtering the information. "You might take a gamble on a wild card from time to time but, in the most part, it is about doing your homework on the players. You make contact and one of us is always going to see them play. "It is about us pooling our resources, and decisions are not made on a whim." Promotion would mean Pearson could be looking at more high-profile targets and he did attempt to sign former Spurs, Juventus and Holland midfielder Edgar Davids earlier this season. However, he reiterated that any signings would have to fit the right profile. "I am not a believer in circus act signings," he said. "I am not a bums-on-seats signing manager. Occasionally it can work but sometimes you can create more problems. "The players have to be right and good enough but, on top of that, their character and personality has to fit in and be conducive with what we are doing here." Pearson may have already started the process of identifying potential targets, but he is not expecting there to be too much action in the transfer market during the next few months. "I can't see many sides spending money and I can't see much business being done until late in the summer," he said. "The window officially opens at the end of the season, but you can bet your bottom dollar that most of the deals will be done in late July and August. "There will be a clamouring for signatures at the end of the window, which is an absolute nonsense, really. But it is because of the financial implications. "The sides that have money will go and get their targets as soon as possible because they can afford to. "We have always looked across the board and don't turn things down out of hand. The loan market is also important, especially in the Championship. It is different in the Premier League. "We are always looking at what we do, how we can improve it, and what is going to improve it. More often than not, it comes down to money and we have to get the best we can in every department within the budget constraints. "Recruitment is always a vital part of getting anything right, at whatever level."
haraven Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Gotta love Nigel Pearson. Class act. The way he describes the scenarios is something for politicians to learn from.
Simi Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Sound words from a man with his head firmly screwed on. I don't doubt for a second that the process that is done is top.
Guest Bilo Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 This is the kind of thing that makes me think we'll be more Birmingham than Burnley if promoted. A very intelligent and forward thinking manager with an excellent scouting team around him, we've every reason to be excited for the future. Of all the managers in the play-offs, I honestly think Pearson would be best in the top tier.
Jordan Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 I really hope this man gets nothing short of an awesome ovation tomorrow.
iBleedLeicesterColours Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Didn't think this deserved its own thread but apparently we are in for Tudgay for next season. My mate told me he'd seen it on another forum. Apparently 3 clubs are interested in Tudgay us being one of them and we are his preffered move. Could be total bull sh!t but could be true ?

Ozwin Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 Don't know what to make of that. He's clearly got talent but Wednesday fans I know say he has very little fight in him when the going gets tough. We've always had fighters rather than flair type players so yeah, not too sure what to think. That's if it's true of course.

Maybe one from the "if we don't go up list" but I'm not sure he is Premier quality.
StanSP Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 I wonder if Steve Walsh is off to South Africa to look and some youngsters or even some experienced guys from this WC. Be good to have a few more established internationals in the side, regardless of what division.

Lillehamring Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 jesus, it looks like it's time to drag out the 'ludicrous and annoying transfer target speculation thread'...
Ozwin Posted 1 May 2010 Posted 1 May 2010 jesus, it looks like it's time to drag out the 'ludicrous and annoying transfer target speculation thread'... You, I and everyone else knows that that's the best board on the forum when it's open.

Go and have a sandwich before posting ridiculous stuff like that

leftsideoverhere Posted 2 May 2010 Posted 2 May 2010 Err mate, you do know Blackpool are in the playoffs, right? Go and have a sandwich before posting ridiculous stuff like that I don't think he meant 'best comedy value on MOTD'. I imagine that quite a lot of lazy football journos will be hoping Blackpool make it. Ollie is a walking headline-generator and NP is, of course, at the opposite extreme. We'll make few friends in the media spotlight if we do go up, as I suspect NP will simply give the 'famous' premier league media stars the same treatment he dishes out to the mercury and Stringer every week: less info than you can read in the programme notes. This article is a perfect example. Merc says "Pearson identifies targets" but can't give any details at all. NP's quotes effectively boil down to "we are all doing our jobs". As long as MM keeps his tongue under control, the first we will hear of anything will be when the contracts are signed and sealed. Just how it needs to be.
