UrbanFox Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 Who's going to win and why? Spain or Argentina Who's your Roughie? Ivory Coast Top team that will struggle? Portugal Golden Boot Winner? David Villa Player of the Tournament? Kaka
NGoloMode Posted 18 May 2010 Posted 18 May 2010 Who's going to win and why? Spain - They have the best squad. Who's your Roughie? Mexico Top team that will struggle? France Golden Boot Winner? Rooney Player of the Tournament? Messi
Uncle Albert Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Who's going to win and why? England or Spain - Can see this being the Final anyway. Who's your Roughie? Ghana. Top team that will struggle? Portugal - wouldnt be surprised if they didnt make it out the group. Golden Boot Winner? Luis Fabiano. Player of the Tournament? Steven Gerrard.
Donut Posted 19 May 2010 Posted 19 May 2010 Whose Going To Win And Why? Spain. Have the deepest squad in international football, with the unbelieveable force of David Villa and Torres up front. Add into that a midfield four that could comprise any one of David Silva, Xavi, Iniesta, Xabi Alonso, Fabregas, Juan Mata, Senna, Busquets, and you have a very, very special squad. Whose Your Roughie? A couple of underrated teams i would say that may spring a surprise or two would be Mexico and Ivory Coast. Ivory Coast have a very difficult group though. Top Team That Will Struggle? Would have to say Italy. an aeging squad and one that, for me, lacks quality. Argentina are also a bit of a laughing stock under Maradonna's leadership so may struggle Golden Boot Winner? David Villa, Torres, or Luis Fabiano Player Of The Tournament? Kaka or Cristiano Ronaldo
shen Posted 20 May 2010 Posted 20 May 2010 Who's going to win and why? Spain. The overwhelming favourites and if they avoid major injuries and complacency, only a handful of teams could potentially stop them. Who's your Roughie? The African sides look strong this time around, but I'm disappointed that two of the most exciting sides have chosen the most dourest of coaches you'll ever see in Lagerbäck and Eriksson. I dread the effect they will have on Nigeria's and Ivory Coast's team respectively. Looking at Cameroon's spine, they have an excellent team and could go far with a bit of luck (unfortunately for the Danes). I have a soft spot for Ghana and I believe they'll win their group and go to the semi's. Top team that will struggle? Germany have lost Ballack and Adler and a few of their key players (Podolski, Klose and Gomez) have been off-colour in recent months. Golden Boot Winner? Villa or Messi. Suarez and Cardozo as dark horses Player of the Tournament? Messi
Jordan Posted 22 May 2010 Posted 22 May 2010 Who's going to win and why? Brazil. Say what you will about Dunga's philosphy his decision to bring four forwards on his 23-man roster, but you're kidding yourself if you don't think this team will still score plenty of goals. Besides, European teams tend to bottle it when it's time to travel away from their continent. Who's your Roughie? Mexico. They're a very talented team, but a very temperamental one, too. Fortunately for them, they respond well to their manager, Javier Aguirre. They're also well used to playing in high altitude (that will be a factor in all three group stage games, and possibly a few after) Top team that will struggle? Portugal. I don't think they will be able to cope with the physical play of their Group G opponents. If they can get out of that group, they'll likely finish second--and earn a date with a Spanish squad that, shall we say, won't be considered underdogs against anybody. I also don't fancy France's chances (that is, if we still consider them a top team). Golden Boot Winner? David Villa. If Spain doesn't shit all over Group H (and stick around for a few games after that), something's gone horribly wrong. Player of the Tournament? Wayne Rooney. England will have winnable games in the second round and quarterfinals. Côte d'Ivoire is the best and deepest African team, but they've been handed a difficult draw and they didn't exactly look inspirational in the Cup of Nations. I think this will be the first time the host nation fails to qualify for the second round.
Jfox Posted 22 May 2010 Posted 22 May 2010 Who's going to win and why? England - an outsider will win Who's your Roughie? Mexico Top team that will struggle? Portugal (cant see them getting out of their group) and Argentina Golden Boot Winner? David Villa Player of the Tournament? Steven Gerrard
TrickyTrev Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 I worry that everyone is writing off Argentina too much. It reminds me of the attitude towards Brazil in the run up to the 2002 World Cup, everyone ignoring the talent on the basis of results that happened 18 months ago. Diego Maradonna may be a bit barmy, and his selection of Palermo is clearly a case of sentiment over reason, but do not underestimate what those boys will do for him. He is a God to Argentinians and they will not view him through the same mocking and condescending prism that we do in England. He also has one of the greatest tactical minds in the history of the game assisting him in Bilardo. If you look at the post qualifying results they are not actually that bad. I thought they looked much better in the final qualifier against Uruguay when Veron was back. I'm not saying they are the favorites, because they are clearly less well prepared than Brazil or Spain. However, do not be surprised if they are in it at the business end of the tournament.
Hitesh Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Who's going to win and why? Brazil – Under Dunga, not only can they do what they do best and attack, they have sorted their defence out so overall, they look the best team. Who's your Roughie? Ivory Cost or one of the other African teams, they can really shine and I can see a few of them making the Quarters. Top team that will struggle? Germany – although making the Final last time, I don’t think they have a good enough squad, although having said that they do often surprise. I’m sticking to my guns on this one though Golden Boot Winner? Drogba Player of the Tournament? Toughie – I can see the much hated by myself Christano Ronaldo doing alirght but I have to go for Lionel Messi for this one.
purpleronnie Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Who's going to win and why? England or Spain - Can see this being the Final anyway. Who's your Roughie? Ghana. Top team that will struggle? Portugal - wouldnt be surprised if they didnt make it out the group. Golden Boot Winner? Luis Fabiano. Player of the Tournament? Steven Gerrard. Not at all blinkered then. Hope you're right though.....but you wont be.
Bugg Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Top team that will struggle? Germany – although making the Final last time, I don’t think they have a good enough squad, although having said that they do often surprise. I’m sticking to my guns on this one though Eh? The final was Italy and France.
samlcfc Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Eh? The final was Italy and France. Probably on about the euro
Bugg Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Probably on about the euro Ah right, didn't really think about it.

However, do not be surprised if they are in it at the business end of the tournament. No Cambiasso, Zanetti or Lisandro Lopez. Over 100 players called up during the 1,5 years he's been in charge. He declared that 'all the balls have to go through Messi' and 'I'll play with four centrehalves. If we need to get a goal I will use my fullbacks.' The man's a looney and I would seriously question whether he's a 'god' among his players...
MC Prussian Posted 24 May 2010 Posted 24 May 2010 Personally, I'd fancy Argentina or England to win it fudge it up once more. It's been a while, after all.
lcfc_jme Posted 26 May 2010 Posted 26 May 2010 Who's going to win and why? Brazil, breezed through qualifying and look a lot more assured defensively than in previous years. It'll all boil down to who has more of their big players show up out of them and Spain I reckon, and I'd think Brazil will come out on top, just. Plus, the added experience of winning the Confed. Cup there will be a bonus. Who's your Roughie? Germany. OK they're not exactly an underdog, but many people are overlooking them and writing them off as they have no recognised in-form striker, no Ballack and a distinct lack of "world-class", high-calibre names. Should be solid defensively and may be bright going forward. Always seem to perform in tournaments, and could well be bright going forward with some promising young players in their ranks. Plus, Miroslav Klose is an hero. Top team that will struggle? Hopefully France and / or England. Golden Boot Winner? Hopefully Klose, but I'll go with Villa. Player of the Tournament? Depends on how far their respective teams get, but I'm hoping for bright things from Sneijder, VdV and Robben as well as Messi. Hoping Chile do well as a lot of their forward players are potentially exciting to watch. Will have to say Xavi overall though if he plays the entire tournament.
AyewJoking Posted 28 May 2010 Posted 28 May 2010 Who's going to win and why? Brazil are simply better than anyone else. Who's your Roughie? Argentina are probably expected to struggle but they're my outsiders. Top team that will struggle? France look a bit dodgy. Golden Boot Winner? Peter Crouch, I hope he gets the nod ahead of Heskey. Crouchy could probably get all the goals he needs in Englands group games alone. Player of the Tournament? Messi could carry Argentina.
fatmando Posted 28 May 2010 Posted 28 May 2010 Who's going to win and why? Brazil Who's your Roughie? Netherlands Top team that will struggle? Portugal Golden Boot Winner? Robben Player of the Tournament? Kaka
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 28 May 2010 Posted 28 May 2010 Who's going to win and why? Germany, always seem to do well. Who's your Roughie? USA, very underrated in my opinion and I'd take a jammy 1-0 in against them in the group anyday. Top team that will struggle? Italy, Portugal, France - Think all three will be poor Golden Boot Winner? Difficult, I'll say a German, Klose Player of the Tournament? Donovan
Monk Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 Who's going to win and why? Argentina - they will leak goals at the back, but they will score bags up front. I think they will beat England in the Final. Who's your Roughie? Chile, just because I love the place and they deserve a bit of luck after that earthquake! Tough group all the same Top team that will struggle? France Golden Boot Winner? Messi Player of the Tournament? Messi
Joe. Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 Who's going to win and why? Spain. They've broken their bottlers tag after the Euros win in 2008 and I can't look past them for this one again. Absolute quality in abundance, the fact that Xabi Alonso and Cesc Fabregas are not first choice picks tells its own story. And in Torres and Villa they have arguably the two best strikers in the world. Who's your Roughie? Serbia. They're certainly no mugs after winning their group containing France with relative ease, and their squad is filled with talent at various European big hitters. Could well be England's opponents in the last 16, we'd have to be wary of them in my opinion. In a pretty competitive group however. Top team that will struggle? Portugal. A 0-0 draw against the Cape Verde islands tells its own story. They won't beat Brazil to the top spot in their group, leaving it between them and the Ivory Coast to fight it out between themselves. Can't see them staking a real claim for anything major. Golden Boot Winner? David Villa. I have down Robinho and Nilmar as a couple of dark horses as well for this. Player of the Tournament? Xavi or Iniesta.
Head Honcho Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 I'm going for Argentina. I just reckon Maradona will get it right on the day. Dutch and Spain to be thereabouts.
Guest Bilo Posted 2 June 2010 Posted 2 June 2010 Brazil will win it due to the vein of quality that runs throughout the side. England are likely to make a semi-final exit, probably to the Brazilians. Portugal will go out at the group stage after defeats to the Ivory Coast and Brazil.
