Former Villarreal midfielder Robert Pires has been criticised by officials of Philadelphia Union for making untoward remarks about the American city in L’Equipe, effectively ending any chance of a move to the club and seriously damaging his chances of playing in the MLS next season. Pires, who is a free agent, reportedly told L’Equipe: “It does not please me to [go to Philadelphia]. I do not want to be difficult, but if I had to take my family away, I'd rather do it in a beautiful city. Otherwise, I will put an end to my career.” If he doesn't want to live in Philadelphia, he's not going to want to move here.
