Wayne Brown to PNE

I had this on another discussion as I couldn't create a new topic. Now I can I have done in the hope for some more opinions. Thanks again.

I'm a Preston North End fan with some transfer info on a defender from your place. I'm not one for using my own club's forum as I only want to know info for my own knowledge/understanding rather than for any inside information I might pass on over the internet. I did likewise on S'thorpe's forum when I was made aware we were signing Paul Hayes and one or two others. They offered a good insight into his game.

I am aware we are signing three players over the weekend/by Monday. One of which is Wayne Brown from your boys. I'm unsure whether there is a fee involved. I heard many a rumour about his sudden exit from the side last season (which I hope aren't true but can't help but think they are) however I was hoping to get your take on him as a player. Clearly the other side of things are not ideal and not want I'd choose at my club but non the less the manager has made that decision.

We did have him on loan for a while a couple of seasons ago. he looked good but then so many players can on loan. I find it's a more true indication of a player when he has been involved with a club for a while. We found that with Wallace. When fighting for a contract on loan he was immense. When a permanent fixture he was less so.

We're in a funny situation this summer. Big things are happening down at Deepdale. Selling some of our more valued players (Wallace to Dingles) but bringing in many a new player with much happening in next few days. Hopefully we'll be up there like you did last year. (P.S I was banking on you boys getting to the play off final last year as I fancied you to stick one on those lashers more than Cardiff - Gutted for us both!)

Much like the city of Leicester we have a large population of Asian ethnicity (though we can't appear to tap into that market regarding their attendance) and such rumours will not go down to well with some up here. I don't like to hear of players at my club doing such stupid things though I suppose I realised a while back there are no morals in football and sometimes you have to move on from it.

Thanks again. Good luck for 10/11!

He is easily one of the worst or the worst distributer of the ball and it is very frustrating to watch him just 'hoof' the ball up-field, usually out of play or to the opposition goalkeeper. He is a solid but slow defender but has never let a striker really dominate him and is a strong tackler. As you have said he was dropped from the squad near the end of the season because of a training ground 'bust-up' in which some players were not happy with him allegedly voting BNP in the recent general election.

Well I hope that this is true, especially if there is a fee involved.

Basically with Brown you get a defender who will dominate in the air and win almost every header, he will also made some decent blocks and he isn't afraid to put

his body in the line etc. He also seems a good leader and encourages the team on the pitch.

However if teams pass it around on the deck he is extremely vulnerable, and he is easily beaten.

He is also a liability if a player runs directly at him, he backs off and off until he has to commit a last ditch challenge which more often than not results in a freekick.

However the worst part of his game is without doubt his distribution, he doesn't choose to play the simple pass, he prefers to pick out the Hollywood ball (HOOOOOF) which results in the bloke in row Z seeing a premature end to his cup of tea.

Brilliantly summed up if Tunchev becomes fully fit, it's a decent piece of business for us. On the leader thing tho, depends what player you are.....I remember virtually verbally crushing the already confidence knocked McGivern.

I honestly dont know how his distribution is so poor! It really is shocking, he cant pass it short let alone long. Never seen such a shit passer of the ball ever play for us. He is very solid and against the oysical teams he seems to do well. People criticised him a bit too much at some points last season, after all we had the 3rd best defence in the league I think and he was a major player in that.

But if the rumours are true about him, I wont be unhappy to see him go.

Pace and distribution are his main weaknesses, hopefully we get a small fee for him.

Unabomber has summed up Wayne Brown there. :appl:

There is nothing more anyone can relly add.

If it is true thanks Wayne, however a move is best for everybody concerned.

I think how successful he will be really does depend on who his central defensive partner is.

If you have someone with pace and/or can pass the ball he could be a good addition.

He is brilliant at heading the ball and is very strong. He is solid in the tackle and will give his all for the team.

As said above he has his limitations but against some of the leagues long ball teams he could be a dominant feature.

Hope this is true, he ruined all his previous good work with his outspokenness over his political views, exactly the divisive crap the squad didn't need going into the play-offs. Thanks for the decent performances 70% of the time Wayne, but ultimately...good riddance.

Thank to all you. I feel better informed and slightly put off. Ha ha. Never mind, I value honest opinions from a good set of fans.

Cheers. Sure official news will be on its way shortly.

Brown can be an absolute rock in defence and will always put himself in where it hurts, however... he can be seriously suspect against pace and when he has a bad game he really does!

he's also very good at shouting and hurling abuse at other players especially when he has made a mistake, if that's what makes a good captain, As others have said Hoof is the first and only tactic of distribution he seems to have

If the stories about him are true and there seems to be real substance to them, then I don't really want him anywhere near my club

Solid defender, good header of the ball, don't piss about when in danger, gets the ball away.

Can't pass it however and is suspect against pace. Would be a useful signing for yourselves.

Posted

I've always liked him as a player. Solid, no nonsense type who gave his all. Pity his political views have got in the way of his footballing career with us. Sad to see him go in a-way.

Posted

Always gives his all albeit his distribution is piss poor.

His head is a ball magnet. Immense in the air.

Oh yeah and he's shit against pace lol

brown on his day can be fantatic and imposible to beat. however i found myself very nervous and on the edge of my seat when he had the ball at his feet as he does take risks and puts alot of strain on goalkeepers i.e passing back, he tends to just hoof the ball forward into the channels and hope somebody reaches it. brown is a great organiser of the defence and will be very good help / expereince to the young defenders. hes a very commited defender who is willing to put his body on the line and is fantastic in the air however he is always exposed by a fast striker has he has a habbit of backing of players when they run at him.

overall i did enjoy brown at the heart of our defence as he showed lots of commitment and passion with his no - noncense attitude, he was fantastic in the air and helped hobbs alot however im not too disapointed to see him go as he has upset a few memebers of the squad and if we can get some money for him then thats even bettter ! :scarf:

He'll put his body on the line and win a lot of headers. Make attackers know that they are in a game.

But his distribution is poor and loses possession all of the time!

Posted

He's one of the most frustrating players to watch, he'll beat some 6'4 bloke in the air (even though he barely hits 6 foot himself) yet he'll throw that away by hoofing it up to the other team's keeper. Anything on the ground and he shits himself though, he'll back off until the last second then throw himself at the ball which doesn't always work. He'll be an alright signing but if the rumours of this BNP stuff is true then him leaving is probably for the best.

I expect he'd be quite happy to play for the Whites.

He definitely wouldn't be a bad signing for you, but from our perspective I think his time's up here after what happened at the end of last season.

You know what you're getting with Brown, it's simple as. He's a solid defender and will win seemingly everything in the air - but he has his limitations. Give him the ball and it's going no less than 30 yards nine times out ten. Naturally at his age he has no pace either, but generally that hasn't been too much of a problem.

He'll do a job for you, nothing more and nothing less. He's been a worthwhile signing for us in his one and a half seasons with us, and has generally been a very good player for us. But as I said earlier, it's time for him to go. We've got adequate cover for him at the moment and we'll be fine without him.

These are pretty much my feelings on the matter as well, especially given Mandaric's comments about the new manager. For all Brown's strengths defensively, it's difficult to see how he'd be comfortable in a team that plays 'attractive, passing football.' He's a no nonsense centre-half who will dominate teams that go long ball but if either us or the opposition knock it around a bit, his limitations are clear to see.

At times he has been an absolute beast for us but a new regime is coming and it's difficult to see what Brown's place would be.

wayne browns punishment upto now for what happened is that he has got to start training a day before everyone else as the problem was with nigel pearson so now hes gone then its down to the club overall so he is resuming training on tuesday instead of wednesday like the rest of the players and he has been included to fly to slovenia with the rest of the squad for the pre season tour

Posted

Think his problem seems to be with the black players at the club as they were the ones allegedly upset with. Along with chris powell who, As the only coach left, will no doubt be supervising that days training....

Having a medical today at Preston

This could blow a hole in the Sousa link, I'm sure it's the presence of Brown and his silky passing skills that were the biggest temptation to leave Swansea for LCFC.
