New LEICESTER boss Paulo Sousa wants to recruit Barnsley midfielder Hugo Colace.

Argentinian Colace was the Tykes' player of the year last season and was set for a move to Swansea.

However, Sousa's departure halted that deal and the 26-year-old may now join him at the Walkers Stadium.

The Foxes chief is also set to raid his former club for Darren Pratley, 25, a 1.5million pounds January target for Nottingham Forest.

He wants the midfielder as he prepares to stamp his mark on the squad inherited from Nigel Pearson, and is also interested in taking Arsenal striker Jay Simpson on a year's loan.

Would be cracking if they all happened! :scarf::thumbup:

The People once printed, yes printed on paper and everything a story that Elvis Hammond was going to sign for Real Mallorca in a £1million + deal from Leicester

They are only just higher up the food chain than football rumours and tribal football which is probably where they get most of their stories from

I quite like the thought of Colace coming here, Barnsley's player of the season last year and all that. As for Pratley that'd also be brilliant, but without investment he's going nowhere near us (well, about 25 miles up the road).

All three players would be good signings for the club and genuinely add something. Worth a punt.

Pratley obviously won't happen, and I wouldn't be too bothered about Simpson as he has never really impressed me.

Colace is a realistic option and would be a decent addition to the team.

obviously you all work alongside mandaric and know that we do or do not have money ready for sousa

Seeing as Swansea seem to be holding out for at least £2m, and Pratley and Sousa apparently didn't get on, I can't see it happening.

I've actually got a good feeling about Pratley joining us.

Just before Sousa joined Leicester, Pratley was a done deal for the trees but then it suddenly stumbled and was delayed. When Sousa was named manager a few Swans fans were saying he wanted to bring Pratley with him to Leicester and there were strong links that this had jolted the Forest deal.

Even though it's reported that Sousa fell out with many players, Pratley was not one of them and in fact is a big fan as he played his best football under him.

What happened to giving the current bunch a chance to show themselves? Sousa hasn't given them very long to prove themselves!

P.S - this isn't a dig at Sousa! I'm all in support of his plans for the club, as long as it will take us forward :)

Yeah, would love to see Colace and Pratley. but Wellens and King have been fantastic and wouldnt like to see either dropped.

I think it's more down to our squad being tiny, bringing players in is necessary and if these 3 are on the cards then it looks like we're going to have some great backups on the bench, whoever they may be.

would love to get all 3 of them would be quality. heard that colace is a cracking player. simpson didnt look to bad at QPR didnt have the service though because tarrabt was to greedy. pratley seemed to have a good season also, but that ashley williams wouldnt be a bad signing either ( the one who scored for swansea against us first game of the season )

Why any player would sign for a managerless club is beyond me. Also a little bit desperate on Swansea's part.

The player might not like the new manager, the manager might not want/like the new player. They should be concentrating on getting a manager rather than signing players.

The Colace story is on the back of this morning's Mercury. They're taking it seriously enough to print a big photograph of him, and the story says that Sousa is 'considering' signing him

Leicester City could move for Argentine ace Hugo Colace

Tuesday, July 13, 2010, 09:30

Leicester City manager Paulo Sousa is considering a move for Argentinean midfielder Hugo Colace.

Colace, who was Barnsley's player of the year and players' player of the year last season, is a free agent after failing to agree a new deal at Oakwell.

He was poised to join Sousa at Swansea until the former Portugal international left to join City.

It is understood Sousa is still interested in the 26-year-old, who was one of the stars of the Tykes' impressive Championship season.

Colace, who has been capped at under-17 and under-20 level by Argentina but also has Italian nationality, was signed by Barnsley two years ago as a defensive midfielder but soon demonstrated he was more effective in an attacking role and scored eight times from midfield last season.

It was believed Colace would sign for a Mexican side after initially struggling to settle in England, but he was then strongly linked to Sousa when his Oakwell contract ran out earlier this summer.

Born in Buenos Aires, Colace began his career at Argentinos Juniors and captained the Argentina Under-20s side that included Carlos Tevez, Javier Mascherano and Lionel Messi in the World Youth Championships in 2003.

He joined Flamengo in 2007 before signing a two-year contract with Barnsley in 2008, for whom he played 75 times and scored 11 goals.

Sousa knows he must strengthen his squad after last season's loan players returned to their parent clubs and the recent departures of Nolberto Solano and Wayne Brown.

The 39-year-old has already recruited Portuguese central defender Miguel Vitor on a season-long loan from Benfica, and has also been linked with Spanish midfielder Andrea Orlandi, who is a free agent after leaving Swansea this summer.

However, while Sousa is looking to strengthen the squad and inject some foreign flair to complement the British players, he will certainly not dismantle the core of the squad which helped City reach the play-offs last season.

"I don't want to change too much, especially when things are going well," he said. "We need a better balance in the squad and better quality in some positions."

Midlands rivals Nottingham Forest and Leicester City are set to fight it out for the signature of Arsenal forward Jay Simpson, according to the Daily Mail.

Simpson, 21, is understood to have been told he can leave the Gunners this summer after failing to fight his way into the first team. After previous loan spells at Millwall, West Bromwich Albion and Queens Park Rangers, the striker is expected to be made available for transfer.

Both City and Forest missed out on promotion to the Premier League after being knocked out in the Championship play-offs. They believe the England youth international could boost their bids to make it to the top flight

Simpson grabbed 12 goals in 39 appearances at QPR last term and scored twice for the Gunners in the League Cup tie against Wigan Athletic in November 2008.

Blackpool, Celtic, Fulham and Hull City are also believed to be in the chase for his signature.
