The rape was really a step too far.

L ol's dad wasn't even in the film. Made me feel sick watching that scene. It's been a decent series, but last nights episode wasn't the best. I'd have rather the series been focused around Shaun and the group, now it's all about shagging.

Combo should have been in the series from the start. Not just the last episode.

nor were a few of the cast, why should that matter?! everyone seems to love the bikers - i don't recall them in a film. rape happens, if TV didn't acknowledge that now and again it'd be doing a disservice to society, however horrible it is. i'd agree there's been too much sex though, it's been a little bit like an x-rated soap opera. too much going on i think. Not sure why u say Combo should've been there from the start tho...he's not done anything yet?! he could make the last episode crap for all we know!

Loving this series.

The Rape was horrible. But i guess its harsh reality.

i agree, hopefully he'll get his comeuppance next week. i guess it was also there to explain why l.ol is the way she is.

This is England was a bleak film, I don't know why people are surprised the show is too. Don't watch it if you want funny, lighthearted stuff. It was 11 o'clock too. Distressing yes but not done in an overly distasteful way (rape can never be portrayed in a nice way, obviously - and you can't ban TV from documenting some of the awful things that can go on in this world). Hard to stomach content doesn't automatically mean bad TV.

As for the bikers, hilarious in episode 1 but not yesterday.

loved the song during the fight scene, this week, though

Bugger me, this is raw television. Really grim stuff.

Amazingly acted nevertheless.

Well that is 1 series I wont be bothered about finishing, thought it was boring throughout. Watched the film earlier and had to switch off before it finished, just seemed like 1 big advert for the BNP or something. Whack.

Enjoyed the whole series,

Lo l was brutal with that hammer.

I did do a little cheer when Lol smashed in his skull with a claw hammer. Even if I was watching it through the gaps in my fingers due to another attempted rape.

Actually a very good ending, the father is killed and exposed as a rapist, Lol walks away scot-free and Combo goes to prison a kind of hero. Of sorts.

Not sure the sex scene between Shaun and Smell was needed though, special needs shagging puts me right off my dinner.

It's the National Front not the BNP, very different.

Attitdues like that were rife in the early 80's and the film tackles alot of real issues that were present during Thatchers reign as Prime Minister. People were poor desperate and wanted to belong to something. If you are not mature enough or are that much of a lefty to see the difference between portrayl and promoting that is your fault not the film makers.

I wasnt around in the 80s so my 80s knowledge is lacking, therefore thats what it came across to me. Either way it did nothing for me, enjoyed the TV series more

Things happen in films, I very much doubt Shane Meadows condones rape or the butchering of 7 lads in Matlock but doesn't mean he can't portay it in film

The flaws of the National Front are more than highlighted during the film and their acts of prejudice are often accompanied by mellow music.

I'd encourage you to watch it all the way through before judging it in such a harsh light.

Really enjoyed the series. This is the only programme that I can think of that has ever made me at all emotional. And I really was moved at times! The rape scenes were truly sickening, it's dreadful to think that people like that are actually in the world. Alot of humour in there aswell and although I wasn't around during the 80's. I really enjoyed seeing how times may have been back then. for some people anyway. I cringed badly when Shaun's mum walked into the room while Smell was on top of him shouting 'THIS IS WHAT ITS LIKE'. lol.

Actually, just realised I'm a bit miffed at how we never found out how Banjo when from being uber-racist in the film to his present happy-go-lucky state.

I'm guessing it's just from seeing what Combo did to Milky in the film?

Or he just discovered a Delia Smith cookery book, and is addicted to making vol-au-vents.

In more than one episode the character of Shaun is heard to saying "Whatever!" in a typical sarkey way teenagers talk today. He definetly says it to his mum in the 3rd or 4th episode. I grew up in 80's I don't remember anybody saying that in the same context to which it it is used today. I thought its a word American teenagers said and which has made its way across the Atlantic. Im sure I first heard it used in the Fresh Prince of Bell Air. I think it become more popular with the likes of Paris Hilton etc which was then picked up by our teenagers over here. No way was it used in Grimsby in 1986 in Thatchers Britain. Am I wrong or being over critical at decent spinoff series?
