Corky Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Roy can't have much longer left, Houllier right in it. Sunderland are doing really well.
Wymsey Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 I don't see us even having a shot on target on Sunday looking at how Man City defend.
ScouseFox Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Why was Arsenal - Man City first up on MOTD? Pretty boring game really. Zabaleta should never have been sent off mind, he didn't do anything.
Bugg Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Why was Arsenal - Man City first up on MOTD? Pretty boring game really. Zabaleta should never have been sent off mind, he didn't do anything. What I found funny was the commentator saying something along the lines of "Zabaleta has no time to apologise with Sagna" when Zabaleta is shown putting an apologetic arm around Sagna.
FoxyPV Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Glen Johnson is absolutely gash as a defender. Liverpool Woy
Guest Mee-9 Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Elokobi's jump over the ball for Bosingwa to turn it in his net. Hero
ScouseFox Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 Ancelotti looked like he knew he's on his way to being sacked.
breadandcheese Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 I can't see Roy lasting much longer but I feel sorry for him and think his treatment by the Liverpool fans to be unfair. He inherited a poor squad made up of mid-table premier league players combined with 3 or 4 good players. Of those good players, Mascherano wanted to leave for Spain, Torres has been struggling to regain his form after recurrent injuries and Gerrard has struggled to maintain the superhuman ability to carry the team single-handedly. Admittedly, his signings have not been great but then Liverpool don't have the funds to compete with the top 4 and when the window was open, there was all the uncertainty surrounding the owners. It is a huge rebuilding job at Anfield and any Liverpool fan who thinks they are a top 4 team in waiting are sadly overly optimistic. It will take a manager at least 5 years to get them back amongst the champions league teams (assuming they aren't taken over by a billionaire oil baron)
Jimothy Posted 5 January 2011 Posted 5 January 2011 MOTD commentator just said Whitehead's goal was "Stoke's first goal since 1980" They've done well to move up the leagues so well having not scored for 30+ years!
MC Prussian Posted 7 January 2011 Posted 7 January 2011 I feel a bit sorry for Hodgson, but he shouldn't have taken the job in the first place. He was always doing his best when working with or for underdogs or smaller teams on both a national and international level. Liverpool with its history and the demand of (instant) success from both the owners and the fans was one step too many.

He's been around a while and gets offered the chance to manage a massive club, he wasn't going to turn it down.
Jimothy Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/l/liverpool/9350630.stm Liverpool manager Roy Hodgson has left the club by mutual consent.Former player and manager Kenny Dalglish has been placed in charge until the rest of the season. More to follow. Good English by the BBC.
Guest Bilo Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Liverpool face mid-table mediocrity for quite some time now I reckon. The demands of instant success from the fans, the low confidence that seems to have infected the playing staff and the lack of money will make it hard for them to find a quality replacement.
Corky Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 I like Woy, but the results haven't been good enough. Away from home they've been abysmal.

I think Roy's been treated shabbily. You're right. Liverpool will face mid-table mediocrity unless they compete financially with the likes of the top 4. This is the unfortunate state of football today. The decline started under Benitez yet Hodgson carries the can. I started watching football in the early 90's. Up until the mid-2000's, they always produced one or two good young academy players to step up to the highest level, enabling them to save a fortune on having to buy players of that calibre. Under Benitez, there was no sign of the next McManaman, Fowler, Carragher, Owen or Gerrard. Roy then arrives into a situation where there are ownership issues, unable to buy any serious players (rumours are that Joe Cole was not his signing) and is then expected to work wonders with a mid-table squad of players (put together at great expense by Benitez so there's no funds left). Of the stand-out players, Mascherano demands to move, Torres is returning from an injury ravaged season and world cup, and Gerrard is not as young as he once was to be able to single-handedly carry the team. In that environment, Mourinho and Fergie would struggle, so I think Liverpool fans were expecting too much from him or indeed any future manager unless there is the finances to back it up.
FoxyPV Posted 8 January 2011 Posted 8 January 2011 Woy was always going to be the scapegoat for the inevitable poor season that liverpool were going to have this year. I hate the assumed success that Liverpool fans think they deserve because they support a great team.
Webbo Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 This table was in today's Mail, I thought it made interesting reading. The full story is here.
FoxyPV Posted 9 January 2011 Posted 9 January 2011 How can £656 a week be an average wage?! That's fooking loads. Aside from that the disparity between the two is disgraceful.
