Guest Bilo Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Shame how Pauli's season has gone. As good as down being five points shy of the relegation play-off spot with games against Bayern and Mainz still to play.
StanSP Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Barca now only need 4 points from 5 games to win the league, thanks to Madrid's latest home defeat. They also had Carvalho sent off in the last minute straight after they brought it back to 3-2. Now watching Barca at Real Sociedad. Villa, Pedro, Busquets and Valdes all rested. Fontas (LB), Montoya (RB) both young Spaniards starting today.
Guest Bilo Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 I can't imagine Mourinho staying there after the summer with only the (now slightly dented) Copa del Rey to show for their expenditure. The main difference seems to be Barcelona's ruthless efficiency. 28 wins out of 33 and only one defeat, crucially not to Real. Losing to Osasuna, Gijon and Zaragoza has killed Real's season more than the battering at the Camp Nou in my opinion.
lcfc_jme Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Mainz, with their surreal start, would probably have hoped for a bit more. Good to see they got a bit of form back towards the end. Not pleased that Hannover lost as it now looks like Bayern will get third spot (they're currently leading Schalke 3-1). Looks very tense though at the bottom. How Wolfsburg even find themselves in such a mess is quite spectacular. I'd probably suggest that nobody at Mainz would actually have anticipated such a miracle first leg, and after seeing how that first leg went, the second was always, always going to be a lot worse. The fact that they're going to be playing European football next season will no doubt be viewed as a great achievement for them and if that was offered to them even at Christmas, I'm sure they'd have taken it. Bayern ended up beating Schalke 4-1, but it could've been a lot more. Schalke were literally dreadful. Defend like that at Old Trafford and they'll get absolutely blown away - not even Neuer will prevent them being embarrassed. Bayern's end to the season should now see them cement third place, but then again they've had the door opened for them on so many occasions this season and thrown it away so it'll be interesting. To be fair, I'm glad that Hannover lost today, as I desperately want Gladbach to pull off the great escape! Genuinely have no idea where it's all gone wrong with Wolfsburg. Obviously the (former) manager must take a large portion of the blame, but the group of players they currently have is probably good enough to be knocking on the doors of a European spot in its own right.
Anorak Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 The Greek cup final turned ugly by the sound of it. Then again, AEK fans assualted their own manager not so long back so maybe not a total shock. Those mad Greeks
shen Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 How well broadcast is the Bundesliga in Denmark, Shen? Comparable to the Prem? Not very well at all actually. La Liga and even the Championship gets shown more often than the Bundesliga, which is a bit odd especially considering the amount of Danes playing in Germany. Of course Mainz could not reproduce that form, but 28 points form their last 24 games is less than they should've got in that position. Obviously they would take European football when they otherwise usually struggle to avoid relegation, but look at Wolfsburg who trumped the big guns two years ago... With Bayerns poor season and Hannover being no more than solid, a third place would have been achievable had they not completely imploded mid-season.
Maybes Posted 30 April 2011 Posted 30 April 2011 Looking at trying to bag late ticket for BMG vs Freiburg next saturday. Big, big game!
MC Prussian Posted 2 May 2011 Posted 2 May 2011 A little funny story from the Swiss Axpo Super League: Xamax Neuchâtel beat FC St. Gallen 2-1. The score itself doesn't tell it all, as the home side led 1-0 after only 19 seconds. Then they missed a penalty after 21 minutes to put them further ahead. Then, three red cards followed and Xamax found itself down to 8 (!) men after 90 minutes. St. Gallen had just equalized in the 89th. 94 minutes played; Tréand gets the ball, dribbles through the defense and scores the winner. Needless to say, St. Gallen's now the laughing stock of the entire league.

My first ever Melbourne Victory game i ever went to we were down 2-1 at half time and had just copped our 2nd red card. We played the whole 2nd half with just 9 men and some how equalized in injury time the crowd went off such a great match.
shen Posted 4 May 2011 Posted 4 May 2011 Bit late, but the dutch season looks like it will end with a bang. Ajax meet Twente at home in a direct Championship decider. Ajax have to win to end as Champions. But prior to that the two teams will also meet in the Cup final. Looking forward to this, obviously being particularly interested in how Eriksen and Boilesen will fare in those games.
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 Let's all do the pozan!!! Polish Cup final from the other day.
Simmo86 Posted 5 May 2011 Posted 5 May 2011 Whats with the white hoodies? All the Polaks at work hate Legia, team of the Police In other news Nuri Sahin is off to Madrid according to Twitter!

MC Prussian Posted 7 May 2011 Posted 7 May 2011 St. Pauli relegated to the 2. Bundesliga after getting hammered 8-1 at home by Gayern, who moved into third place. Munich scored 6 goals in the second half alone, three of them in the last ten minutes of the game. Wolfsburg, Gladbach and Frankfurt will have to make out the two remaining relegated teams on the last day of the season next weekend. The 16th placed will have to play either Augsburg, Bochum, Furth or Aue in a playoff/playout game.
MC Prussian Posted 8 May 2011 Posted 8 May 2011 And in the 2. Bundesliga, Karlsruhe, Osnabrück or Rot-Weiss Oberhausen will have to bite into the sour apple and play either Dynamo Dresden (they're back!!) or Wehen Wiesbaden in their respective playoff/playout game. Hmm... Dynamo Dresden... The good old days of Cherchesov, Gütschow, Pilz, Uwe Rösler & Co. (Yes, Uwe Rösler - of Manchester City fame!) You know, they were in the Bundesliga at one point some twenty years ago.

lcfc_jme Posted 8 May 2011 Posted 8 May 2011 Whilst I'm here and knocking around, as many of you seem to be fairly interested in German football, I'd like to draw a couple of things to your attention. Presuming most of you are on one of Facebook or Twitter (or both I'd suspect in many cases), there's an absolutely top quality German football blog on the web at the minute set up and run by a City fan who used to be fairly prominent on here that is definitely worth checking out for all things Deutschland. I know a few on here are already aware of it and who's behind it, but thought it was worth bringing to the attention of more people. Still a relatively young blog and despite the main man behind it all being in his final year at uni, the Twitter account is pretty well respected and has amassed over 350 followers, the blog has featured some quality guest posts and he's had an article published on the Bundesliga website - which in turn has seen them endorse and publicise the page. Anyway, it can be found on Twitter here, on Facebook here and the Blog can be found on this link here. Give it a browse if you want / have any spare time. I'm sure the added support will be much appreciated.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Absolutely gutted about Sahin, hope Klopp manages to replace him, very difficult task. Really want him to do well at Real, though. Still can't believe how young he is, feels like he's been around forever and he's only 22. The decision was hard to take. I am Borussia and will remain Borussia. I will miss Dortmund
shen Posted 9 May 2011 Posted 9 May 2011 Twente won the first final against Ajax in a great cup final. Ajax 2-0 ahead but Twente took the game into extratime having wasted several huge chances to clinch it in ordinary time. Looked to be heading to penalties until Janko struck in the 117th minute. Next 'final' is taking place in the weekend. Anything but a win for Ajax and Twente do the double!
