Mikey Posted 10 May 2011 Posted 10 May 2011 Ronaldo has scored 7 in 2 now to take his tally to 49 overall, and 36 in the league, only 2 short of Hugo Sanchezs record of 38. 36 goals in 32 games is unbelievable in the league for saying it's only his second season in La Liga, compared to Messi's 31 in 32. The fact that Ronaldo has more goals than games (62 in 61) in the last 2 years in La Liga is brilliant. What a guy.

He's always going to have his haters but he's undoubtedly alongside Messi as the best in their generation and up there with the best ever. He'll certainly have a case if he carries this on for the rest of his career. La Liga does seem to be a much more straight forward league at this moment in time and I can't see it improving any time soon. You can't really question his move to Madrid but it's arguably easier to showcase your talent there. The amount of goals Barca and Madrid score is almost laughable. Their respective goal differences of +72 and +60 compared to the 3rd placed Valencia with +18 highlights this.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 La Liga is managing to make the SPL look competetive at the minute.
MC Prussian Posted 11 May 2011 Posted 11 May 2011 Twente won the first final against Ajax in a great cup final. Ajax 2-0 ahead but Twente took the game into extratime having wasted several huge chances to clinch it in ordinary time. Looked to be heading to penalties until Janko struck in the 117th minute. Next 'final' is taking place in the weekend. Anything but a win for Ajax and Twente do the double! PSV will be cursing themselves for this finale. They could've had a real shot at the title on the last day of the season, but with Twente and Ajax playing each other, they won't be able to make it.

Yeah, they were in pole position as well, but dropped the ball with a poor draw at home to Heerenveen and a miserable defeat at Feyenoord in their last three games.
MC Prussian Posted 14 May 2011 Posted 14 May 2011 Frankfurt now officially relegated to the 2. Bundesliga, Gladbach will either play Bochum or Greuther Furth in the playoff/playout game. And Dresden have now finally secured their own playoff/playout game against the 16th from the 2. Bundesliga, which will be determined tomorrow afternoon. Braunschweig and Rostock have both secured automatic promotion.
VinceNoir Posted 15 May 2011 Posted 15 May 2011 Ajax beat Twente 3-1 in the title decider, and won their 30th title! Pleased with that. Always had a soft spot for them

Got another 2 goals yesterday now. 38 in La Liga so equalled Hugo Sanchezs record. 51 for the season.

AjcW Posted 16 May 2011 Posted 16 May 2011 Its a shame he still doesn't turn up for the big games though.... if he did.... he would be the best... as it is he's second
shen Posted 16 May 2011 Posted 16 May 2011 Ajax beat Twente 3-1 in the title decider, and won their 30th title! Pleased with that. Always had a soft spot for them Both clubs have had great seasons. Although if Twente had won what an unbelivable season they would've had. A Europa Cup quarter-final and a domestic double. Doesn't get much better for a Dutch club! Glad from a Danish point of view to see Ajax win. Eriksen has been fantastic for them and Boilesen looks like a great prospect in our weakest position.
MC Prussian Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 And my local team who plays up the street has been relegated to the Swiss third tier. Saw them play yesterday and they were worse than bad - story of the season. Only started to play football once they were 2-0 down. And that at home. Shambles.
J.Lisemore Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Deportivo been relegated to Spains second tier. They won La Liga as recent as 2000
shen Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Deportivo been relegated to Spains second tier. They won La Liga as recent as 2000 The permutations were even crazier in La Liga this year than in the Prem today. Only six points separating Deportivo from 8th placed Espanyol. Harsh on Deportivo, but they've really struggled financially along with several other clubs this year (Mallorca were denied entry into Europa League due to poor finances). Another high-profile club to go down after Betis, Celta Vigo and Atletico Madrid in recent years.
MC Prussian Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Pitch invasion 25 minutes into the Vienna derby today - Rapid fans couldn't take it any longer being 2-0 down to their fiercest rivals Austria. This is what happened: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vhdebm8Ftd8 The game got cancelled afterwards, verdict still to be issued. With only one more gameweek to go, Sturm Graz, Red Bull Salzburg and Austria are still in the run for the Championship title.

Hopefully they will actually manage to stay there a while this time around...
Fosse Boy Posted 25 May 2011 Posted 25 May 2011 Gutted for Bochum tonight. Fought so hard over the 2 legs. Top fans as well.
shen Posted 26 May 2011 Posted 26 May 2011 Jesper Grønkjær announced his retirement today at the age of 33. He will retire after the final game of the season between FC Copenhagen and AAB Aalborg where he made his breakthrough. Great servant for the national team and one of the greatest players to have played in the Danish Superliga. Always struck me as a very down to earth and sympathetic character. There probably aren't many that followed his career since his unsuccesful spells with Birmingham, Atletico Madrid and Stuttgart, but his move to FCK signalled the start of his rejuvenation. The many injuries and his age forced him to change his playing style with great success in a not too dissimilar fashion to an Unnamed Premiership Footballer. Thanks for the good memories! Edit: Only just noticed the Beeb had a news item about it. Didn't expect that.
shen Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Bremen, Wolfsburg and Leverkusen are all out of the German Cup after the first round! Mighty Dynamo Dresden somehow overturned a three-goal deficit in the second half to win the tie in extra time against Leverkusen! Linky
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 31 July 2011 Posted 31 July 2011 Dortmund played some silly football against Sandhausen yesterday. So glad, Sahin aside, they've kept virtually the same team that played some stunning counter attacking football last season. Can't wait to see them in the Champions League. If Goetze and Kagawa keep improving, and Perisic takes his Brugge form to Germany, they've got three diamonds on their books. Gundogan from Nurnberg looks a bloody brilliant piece of business too. Hummels and Subotic are both rocks at centre half, Kuba and Grosskreutz give me wet dreams and Lucas Barrios is lethal. I love this team so much, it's sad. And their kits are always so, so sexy.
