Ive noticed recently that he seems to divide alot of fans opinions so thought id start a poll to try and determine what the majority think.

Great player. Makes the odd mistake/misjudgement but apart from that should definitely be a first team player.

Wouldn't disagree with this. Combative in the middle and a good eye for a killer ball make him a valuable asset to the team for me. Shame he can't shoot for shit.

Yet he's our joint top scorer this season... :/

True, but we've seen enough from him over two seasons to realise he's not too lethal in front of goal!

You can't just have good / bad poll life and football is not always as simple as that.

He's a Championship level player who has some good attributes and some weaknesses.

Started last season superb, was by far our best player, then lost form and became very average, still looks fairly average this season, but does fight and give 100% most games, I noticed on Saturday at the Reading game, everytime he got the ball he looked for Dyer and hit that long diagonal pass, sometimes worked, sometimes went out for a throw in/goal kick

Really need an average option

Definitely.

I don't dislike the guy, I appreciate his combativity and flashes of quality but I think he has more to give to be honest. Last season he was good, but just one goal and not a huge amount of assists makes you wonder how big an impact he had. How I judge players is based on the hard facts (e.g. goals, assists, clean sheets - whatever is suitable to the position), and also how much an impact it would have if the player left or got injured. In Wellens case, it's quite complex because he does a lot of good work but also makes some silly errors with his passing and tackling. If you asked me if I'd had sold him yesterday say if someone had bid £500k(ish), then it would be a no for now because I think we can certainly get good use out of him for a season or two to come. Doesn't mean I'm totally content with the guy though, he's got the potential to be a midfield dominator so let's see it please Richie.

Wellens is a grafter and I fvcking love him, he also buys more free kicks than his salary pays.

Vital first teamer and all round icon for me.

The only midfielder we have who is not afraid to mix it with the opponents ,you need a player who is a bit street wise and can rough a few of the opposition up ,I hope he goes nowhere .

Forgot to add that his grafting and gutsy attitude was emphasised against Cardiff in that fateful 2nd leg game. No matter how shattered he was, he kept on going til the final second.

Does the job in this league. Knows how to get involved, can tackle and has an eye for a pass. Sure, he gets us into trouble at times, but what player doesn't? Has more good days than bad.

Good range of passing and tenacity in the midfield. Clever player.

But has his weaknesses and inconsistencies. More towards the good end rather than bad.
