Nick Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Kevin Davies is in the squad! Wilshere, Green and Foster included too.. http://www.thefa.com...llo-names-squad Full squad: Ben Foster (Birmingham City), Robert Green (West Ham United), Joe Hart (Manchester City) Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Rio Ferdinand (Manchester United), Joleon Lescott (Manchester City), John Terry (Chelsea), Stephen Warnock (Aston Villa) Gareth Barry (Manchester City), Joe Cole (Liverpool), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Tom Huddlestone (Tottenham Hotspur), Adam Johnson (Manchester City), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham Hotspur), Jack Wilshere (Arsenal), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Manchester City), Ashley Young (Aston Villa) Darren Bent (Sunderland), Peter Crouch (Tottenham Hotspur), Kevin Davies (Bolton Wanderers), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United) Round pegs, round holes and there should be no reason a team made up of that squad couldn't beat 90% of International sides. Capello needs to inject some team spirit and some flare instead of Plan A and Plan B one dimensional football.
dandannieldanok Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Really hope Darren Bent gets to start, he deserves it. Don't think it's a great idea having Rob Green back in the squad, too much water has passed under the bridge and Capello did not manage the situation effectively enough with him. Wouldn't be surprised if Green pulls out before too long.
StanSP Posted 4 October 2010 Author Posted 4 October 2010 Hoping Green is just there for back up when the imminent 'injuries' occur in the few days before the game. Quite confident that Hart will start.
lildave3 Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Kevin Davies? Nice to see we're bringing the young ones in then!
Samilktray Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 What happened to Andy Caroll being in this squad
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 SWP, Lescott and Barry shouldn't be near the squad.
StanSP Posted 4 October 2010 Author Posted 4 October 2010 My preferred line up: ------------Hart---------- Johnson-----Jagielka-----Terry-----Cole------------------Huddlestone--------------J.Cole-------------------------------A.Johnson-------------Gerrard------------------------Bent------------------Crouch/Rooney------- Never gonna happen though!
Bugg Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Am I the only one who thinks Kevin Davies in the squad is good? Thought he deserved a call up much earlier than this tbh.
Guest NGoloMode Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 I think we should be building a squad to challenge in Euro 2012. Kevin Davies' time has been and gone. If he was good enough for England he would have been called up ages ago. He's not. Intoduce Andy Carroll to the England squad or even Daniel Sturridge.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Shaun Wright-Phillips?! This proves that all you need is a loud mouth dad (whose not even your ACTUAL DAD) to pipe up and defend you at every turn, and you will succeed in life.
Bryn Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Kevin Davies is a one squad wonder, Capello has pretty much admitted he just needed a big striker as cover for one game. He's not a long term plan, and as he's looking very much currently I see no problem with his selection.
Father Ted Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Davies is a cracking selection! Just a shame players like Lescott, Barry and SWP weren't dropped for Konchesky, Cattermole and Jarvis. The big names are not always the way forward!
Guest ttfn Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Thank goodness Andy Carroll isn't in the squad. Most over-rated player in the Premiership.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Davies is Mr consistant. Hope he gets a go, fully deserves to play.
Samilktray Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 I think Lee Cattermole would be a cracking call up, I always like my players to play less than a half.
Finnegan Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 I think Lee Cattermole would be a cracking call up, I always like my players to play less than a half.
Jimothy Posted 4 October 2010 Posted 4 October 2010 Thank goodness Andy Carroll isn't in the squad. Most over-rated player in the Premiership. Still surprised he didn't make it in after being left out the U-21's though. Thought he was nailed on for a senior call up after that, having been in nearly all the recent U-21 squads.
Father Ted Posted 5 October 2010 Posted 5 October 2010 I think Lee Cattermole would be a cracking call up, I always like my players to play less than a half. Emphasis on the 'PLAY', something that Barry and numerous others don't do at all.
Bugg Posted 5 October 2010 Posted 5 October 2010 Emphasis on the 'PLAY', something that Barry and numerous others don't do at all. Barry is basically impossible to drop with Capello in charge. He's his favourite.
singinpete Posted 5 October 2010 Posted 5 October 2010 scotty parkers got more to offer than Barry Glad there's no carlton cole, id much prefer davies
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 5 October 2010 Posted 5 October 2010 Agree about Scott Parker, virtually carried West Ham last season. Carlton Cole was just a mistake. Truth is, Rooney, Defoe, Crouch (perhaps Bent with time) aside, there isn't another decent international striker in this country. I admire Davies, he's worked and got called up, but it just seems such a backwards step. He won't be an improvement on what we have, and he isn't a youngster that could benefit with the experience. We surely must have better, younger alternatives, that are worth a look at, than the likes of SWP, Barry and Lescott? Marc Albrighton? Cameron Jerome? Scott Dann? Craig Garnder? And even with little playing time, Daniel Sturridge? I await getting shot down.
