h1210 Posted 7 October 2010 Posted 7 October 2010 What, how do you pronounce it then? Unless you just mean because you call it The Saff. Closer to Saffren like anyone else. Sounds wrong with the emphasis on ron
Finnegan Posted 7 October 2010 Posted 7 October 2010 Oh I see. Yeah, fair enough, I suppose I say "Saffr'n."
Christoph Posted 7 October 2010 Posted 7 October 2010 Scudd but then I gotta proper manky leicester accent, the whole eh instead of ee on the end of words is my biggest downfall when meeting new people not from the city. (citeh instead of city, nickeh instead of nicky)
cambridgefox Posted 7 October 2010 Posted 7 October 2010 Still makes me smile every time my girlfriend says Saffron Lane (as in the spice). Definitely gives away the fact she's not a local. stez Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 how do you pronounce Kesteven ? does it rhyme with Steven or heaven ? k'steven rhyming with steven, not keh-stuh-ven as some fool once said (who may or may not've been someone requesting 2nd hand car dealers recently)
ozleicester Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 another is belvoir st ... beaver st Still havent come to terms with this... i mean seriously people... Beaver??.. how??..imposs ible oh and out this way is a place called Uttoxeter... which i (to the hilarity of friends) pronounced utto-exeter ..mind you i cant explain that properly, as you say the "u" as oo... eg (cup) coop, (up) oop) whereas in OZ.. the u is..... errmmm .. ... ok, when you say the word 'sofa' the sound of the last a is an "u"... .. so the u is pronounced sofu...cup...utto-exeter i need an alternative to the poll
Houdini Logic Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 My missus used to live in Belvoir Drive and I rememer being in Northampton and going in to a bank to try and pay money into her account without her bank details. ''What's her address?'' ''BEAVER Drive'' ''I'm sorry - that's not coming up. How do you spell it?'' ''B - E - L - V - O - I - R'' Cue confused 'are you a little bit spasticated' face

Lillehamring Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 Scoodamore. Vaa-lah-wren-gah hmm, well norwegians replace å with aa when they don't have the letter available, so you could be sort of right... the missus explained to me, really helpfully, that Å is pronouced 'like 'or' but without the 'r'' - if that makes any sense - the closest i can find in english is the au sound at the beginning of August. Oh, and the 'er' is silent... is the '6' for the leicester accent on 'goh'? kinda, it's more like 'guh', than 'goh'.... so, it's Vorl'enguh, kinda.... haraven? other norwegian posters? how would you say it?
adam1 Posted 8 October 2010 Posted 8 October 2010 Scudders. Although the non Leicester pronunciation is probably scoo...
