Liamlcfc1 Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Hi all someone i know who works at the club says we may sign Pires on a free untill the end of the season and as he is training with Arsenal this could be true what would you think to this siigning.
The Doctor Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 bull. linked with him back in the summer, not going to happen, not worth happening. He's past it.
Jimmy Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 would add some quality in the midfield but has he got any pace left
Liamlcfc1 Posted 17 October 2010 Author Posted 17 October 2010 With Dyer out this could be a good move also as back up we missed a winger yesterday
MC Prussian Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 I thought he had retired, then I realized he was with Villareal until the end of last season. Even more surprising is the fact that he's still quick as a lightning. Good at free-kicks and could teach King a thing or two. He's training with Arsenal at the moment. Usually sceptic about signing players above the age of 30, but Pires seems to be an exception to the rule.
Karljohn Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Would be a pointless signing, his legs have gone and he has nothing to offer.
Tilley Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 I would prefer to have a 36 year old Robert Pires on the wing than Matt Oakley. There are better options out there than Pires I'm sure but he could teach the youngsters a thing or two in training and he'd still have something to offer in the Championship.
Matt Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 As much as I hated him for who he played for I did always admire him at Arsenal, but think he's abit past it now.
phillthefox Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 think his wages are out of our range and not worth it as he only be bit part player... lot better around

katieakita Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 IMHO, Niced to be linked with and a step up from Solano last year but judging by our 2 new signings Sven can do better. Things are changing fast at the City last week we'ed have been happy with Stoor yet Naughton is a notch up from him its clear Sven has his sights on more players soon, what's the limit on loan signings anyone? Paul
Al-aLondon-Foxile Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 think his wages are out of our range and not worth it as he only be bit part player... lot better around His wages now are how much? Anything we offer will be more than he's on at the moment so I wouldn't say we'd need to pay him that much. He must still have the passion to play if he trains with arsenal & could potentially be a valuable asset to the team in both training and matches IMO
ScouseFox Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 None of you know how much his wages will cost, and i doubt many of you know exactly how fast he can currently run, you just assume that because he's the wrong side of 30 he must be as slow as Steve Howard. That said, can't see this happening, but he's a definite improvement on what we currently have on the right wing, which is pretty much feck all.

I doubt that very much as he can hardly speak any English. I read that in Four Four Two and found it amazing considering how long his spell was with Arsenal. He said it was one of his biggest regrets. I very much doubt he'll come here.
Guest BlueBrett Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Havn't seem him play in years. Could be great could be useless. If Sven makes a move for him I will trust his judgment.
Guest Bilo Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Rumour's been done before and I'll say what I said then. He's 36, his legs have probably gone and he'll be here purely for the pay day.
Mack Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 We need quality width. You could see yesterday that even without Dyer and N'Guessan fit Sven still wanted to play with two orthodox wide men. However Pires is an old man and doubt he could get up and back for 45 let alone 90 minutes. And beat a full back? Just cant see it.

Two words you don't see near each other too often. Of course he didn't have to speak any English playing for Arsenal, It's a team full of foreigners, hardly any English players, mostly French (Think there may be a few more different nationality's nowadays but not long ago the team was mostly a French XI), I've often wondered what language Wenger gives his team talks in and wouldn't surprise me if it was French.
Tilley Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 The players are only allowed to speak English on the training ground and the pitch.
dandannieldanok Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 Well we do need a right-winger, but I'd rather Sven continue to go down the line of young, up-and-coming, with something to prove players like he has with Davies and Naughton. They're playing for their futures in football, Pires has been there done it and got the t-shirt, not sure what his motivation would be.

Edmund Posted 17 October 2010 Posted 17 October 2010 The players are only allowed to speak English on the training ground and the pitch. Did you see the team he used to play with at Arsenal? They were virtually the France starting eleven

The reason they have foreign players is because those players are technically better than anything the british isles has managed to produce. Besides anelka aside how many of them have caused wenger anywhere near the amount of problems cole and pennant did?
