Guest shearfox Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 His skill is above and beyond 95% of other players in the Championship. Those who say he's got nothing to offer dont know their arse from their elbow People certainly do forget that we are in the championship and not fighting for a European place in the prem.
The Doctor Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 His skill is above and beyond 95% of other players in the Championship. Those who say he's got nothing to offer dont know their arse from their elbow maybe so but how long has he got left? I wouldn't expect more than this season playing regularly and with his profile the wages would be ridiculously high. Better off looking for some one a bit younger, or bringing him in like chrissy p, playing a bit but moving into coaching.
Samilktray Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Robert Pires supplying the ammunition for Daz Vassell. Makes me drool
teblin Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 There aren't many 36 year old's who can play 30 league games at that age in possibly the best league in the world. Even Ryan Giggs isn't able to play that many games. If we somehow got Pires for a season or two then it would be obscene. We have 35 left this season if we could get 20-25 games out of him it would be decent. Horses for courses, give him a contract until the end of the season and hope he gets us up the table and even in the play offs.
Ford Super Sunday Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 I wouldn't think we'd be silly enough to pay him a weekly wage Some Davids-esque at Palace pay-as-you play deal would suffice for me, but there's no doubt that someone like Pires would add quality to the squad. So long as he doesn't try any dodgy penalties like he did at Arsenal!
STUHILL Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Contract until Summer on pay as you play deal. He has been training with Arsenal so will be reasonably fit and I think his pure quality on the ball will be enough in the Championship. Having Robert Pires come on with 20-30 mins to play is never a bad option. Again, a better option that Gally or Nguessen on the wings I think.
Master Fox Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 So we're okay with having Nobby Solano in our team last season but we don't want Robert Pires? Wow! He would be a great signing. I think people forget we're Leicester City not Real Madrid

I think people forget we're Leicester City not Real Madrid It's insanity and buffoonery in a nutshell. It's this blinkered view that any fallen hero over the age of 30 has suddenly lost all their ability and we shouldn't touch them. Fans prefer to gamble on an unproven younger player than players with vast experience and proven talent in Pires and Vassell. In my eyes, the younger, unproven players only achieve their potential by playing alongside quality older players. Andy King would probably pay a grand a week out of his own pocket to play alongside Pires because chances like that just don't come along that often. But fans know best, I think we should personally go for some 12 year old from Chelsea.

If we were linked with a youngster from Chelsea or a in form striker from the lower leagues, they would argue he isn't tested at this level or we shouldn't be used to help develop other clubs players instead of our own. Pires and Vassel in the short-term could help us. No doubt about that.
Babylon Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 I mentioned this the other day but nobody seemed to see it... Bob Hazell and TB hinted at this happening at the end of last week. http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=68657&view=findpost&p=1709640

They think players like Fryatt, Howard, Hume, and joey gudjonsson are world beaters. They’d rather see shit young players like Chris O’Grady , Chambers, and Kee put in the first team ahead of proven players with experience in the premier league and international level. Or like you say, some under 18 Chelsea winger who's never played a senior game in his life given a contract and played every week until we're relegated again. Bonkers

Bonkers But he was wicked on Football Manager and helped take [insert posters name] Kettering side to Champion League glory in 6 seasons.
Ric Flair Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 I just think that when you dig a little deeper in to how Pires has performed since he left Arsenal there doesn't even seem to be much decline in the impact he has. He still provides an impressive number of assists, always chips in with 5-10 goals a season and has stayed fairly injury free in the past couple of seasons. The fact he's done this at a club and in a league far greater than ours is even better. If we do have the chance to get him and I have a feeling we might (Bob Hazel) then we must act swiftly before a Premier League club takes him.

Bonkers that can quite frequently be worth the risk - the likes of kakuta, mceachran (sp), sinclair, barazite, lansbury etc. would be class acts at this level (not likely to get any of them but signing them from a top club before they broke through could have been an option and would have been a good choice) bringing in pires could be a masterstroke but could also be a terrible idea and poses as much risk as any signing, regardless of the players history.
Bettsj2 Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Pires is an amazing player. That sort of class would be earth shatteringly amazing to have down the Singha.
Master Fox Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Alright... Who would you rahter playing on the wing? Waghorn, Gallagher, Abi, Oakley, Fryatt... Or Pires? I rest my case. Pires is an amazing player. That sort of class would be earth shatteringly amazing to have down the Singha.
Leicester_Loyal Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Alright... Who would you rahter playing on the wing? Waghorn, Gallagher, Abi, Oakley, Fryatt... Or Pires? I rest my case. Well, when you put it like that. Oakley
Stevosevic Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Has this actually got a chance of happening? Bert?
davbison Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 Pires would be an inspired signing. As much as I'm happy to see youth in the side, having players with a wealth of experience is critical in getting the right balance which often installs confidence in the younger players. Hobbs is a prime example of this. He played his best football last year when he played along side Brown, but has looked shaky in games where he's played against Morrison, Vitor, or Moreno.
crazylegs1984 Posted 18 October 2010 Posted 18 October 2010 You lot who are going against this are fooked it wasn't long ago when u was jizzing in your pants about egdar David's who hadn't played a game in ages where as pires has Been playing footy in la liga last season and been training at the emirates he would be a coup in my opinion
