MOT Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 You are one of the only teams that sold out your allocation and we generally have a packed house on boxing day so I think your idea that everyone comes out the woodwork to watch against Leeds has very little foundation. 9 of the 12 teams we have played away from home have had their highest attendances (including Reading's who's previous high was against Chelsea), so my "idea" actually has statistics to back it up. Yours, however, is a river in Egypt.
Joe. Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 Obviously more people came out to watch the game because it's Leeds - that's just natural isn't it? They've clearly got more pull than most Championship sides taken everything into consideration. Which is why they should stop banging on about fucking good they are. Yes they have an excellent fanbase, I'm not going to dispute that. But they're there on every forum every single week belittling every other club because they have smaller attendances or that they've "just come to watch Leeds". They've got one of the biggest cities in the country and a history to match it. Of course they should be better than everyone else.
Finnegan Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 Always as much as 8k more :sge: ? Our highest gates generally come against teams we consider "Rivals," although we haven't really had the opportunity to play such teams in a loooong time. Can't really think of a team in this division that warrants the term. Well for a start, let's contest your eight thousand. Let's assume the figure is weighed down by some televised games and games against truly awful sides that, yes, you would attract more City fans than Leeds. Let's say we average about twenty three odd thousand against most top-half sides (it's probably more, in earnest.) Now let's factor in that your away support is probably close to double what most sides will bring to the Walkers this year. I'd say those are fairly conservative alterations, I don't think I'm being fantastically biased or naive here. Really you're looking at a swelling of around, what, five, six thousand? Even if our average gate was as low as eighteen thousand you're only looking at about a third of the ground needing to bring just ONE extra person and you're making it up. And that's not factoring people bringing multiples or entire families coming that otherwise wouldn't. I'm really not entirely sure why this is so staggeringly perplexing to you. Even if it were the full eight thousand people, it is relatively very few given the circumstances.

AoWW Posted 26 December 2010 Author Posted 26 December 2010 I was looking for Leicester fans' opinions on the game today, is that ok with you? S'fine by me... 'cept all you seem to have done is comment on attendance. We've had more entertaining opposition fans on here, but, still, whatever floats your boat.

Even if it were the full eight thousand people, it is relatively very few given the circumstances. It's no "perplexing," it's just plainly not true. It's not a case of "a third of the ground bringing one extra person," because that simply does not happen - not even close to being true. If it were so, than why is it that not one other team in the championship posted their highest attendance of the season?
Captain... Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 You are one of the only teams that sold out your allocation and we generally have a packed house on boxing day so I think your idea that everyone comes out the woodwork to watch against Leeds has very little foundation. This, Leeds don't get high attendances just because the home fans want to watch Leeds it's because they bring a large number of away supporters, probably the most in the league, for that I applaud them, they made a lot of noise today and outsung the Leicester fans, until we equalised, they even used our drummer better than we did... ...but the fact it is boxing day is a big draw, Leeds on boxing day is a bigger draw than S****horpe on the same day, but boxing day is a big fixture, I normally go every year with my Dad, sometimes my Mum too, it's kind of a tradition I get the tickets for christmas, also it's one of the few times in the country, I imagine it's the same for others.

Tommeh Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 Absolutely nothing wrong with suggesting Leeds are worth an extra 3/4k on ANY football league clubs gate, because they probably are. Such a nothing argument. Their support wasn't it's usual self today however, very poor infact in comparison to 2006, 2009, they usually have the roof off here. Still probably the best to visit this season but hardly an achievment.
Corky Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 Lovely strike by Kingy, best midfielder since Izzet at the club. And Leeds still struggle to beat us.

Disappointed to hear that final comment because I was sure it'd be a good away day, although 2009 was pretty good "We all love Leeds" for about 20 minutes non stop Lovely strike by Kingy, best midfielder since Izzet at the club. And Leeds still struggle to beat us. 2002 last time we did I read this morning <_<
danny. Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 There were 27.5 for donnie a couple of weeks ago, only another 3.5 today, on boxing day, which as others have said always attracts a bumper attendance

Schmeichel should have gone, and Bednar should have had a pen, you were lucky to get away with a point. Are all of your lot calling for Grayson's head yet?
Joe. Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 2002 last time we did I read this morning <_< Yeah in the Premiership it was. For the record I am very envious of the Leeds supporters at times. But there are some complete arses within their fanbase who strut around on the internet.
CosbehFox Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 There were 27.5 for donnie a couple of weeks ago, only another 3.5 today, on boxing day, which as others have said always attracts a bumper attendance Donny was a fans fixture which explains that heightened attendance.
CosbehFox Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 Are all of your lot calling for Grayson's head yet? Wouldn't surprise me if they are, just like we had folks calling Pearson this that and then other despite last season. There wasn't a lot between us last season and them today in terms of style, organisation and grit.
danny. Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 Donny was a fans fixture which explains that heightened attendance. Yea I know, not a normal fixture, neither was today though, people will buy tickets as Xmas presents and bring family down etc. I got tickets for my other half (rarely goes) and her brother (first time) today for instance, doesn't take many other people doing the same to swell the numbers. Guess my point is games will be packed for reasons other than the visiting team such as a bring a fan's fixture or being on dec 26th.

Schmeichel should have gone, and Bednar should have had a pen, you were lucky to get away with a point. Are all of your lot calling for Grayson's head yet? There will always be someone calling for Grayson's head For some fans a draw is tantamount to a loss and despite his successes some fans just don't like him. Should've, would've, could've. Swings and roundabouts, it all evens up at the end of the season. We've thrown away bigger leads at home (4-1 home to Preston, ending up 4-6) and come behind to win (Burnley). Can't be too disappointed with a draw away from home.
Corky Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 2002 last time we did I read this morning <_< Yes. This is a fixture we generally do well in, even before the last time you beat us at our place. I am surprised at how well you've done, but I think Simon Grayson is a cracking manager.
Jackirius Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 Now's you're going to make me smile by equating Leeds to Leicester, aren't you I'm not meaning to be obnoxious but your inferiority complex is shining through. Big words for a Leeds fan
MOT Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 Yes. This is a fixture we generally do well in, even before the last time you beat us at our place. I am surprised at how well you've done, but I think Simon Grayson is a cracking manager. Brilliant guy, and Leeds to the core. He's already turned down premiership opportunities (albeit at lesser clubs) to stay with us. He has my support until he goes, and the best thing about him is he's always improving. Big words for a Leeds fan Correct amount of fingers for somebody from Narch :

The worst (and most overused) saying in football, there is no way this is true. I'm not moaning about the refs decisions today, these things happen... but there is not some sort of "football scale" which balances it all out.

Generally, teams do experience purple patches where they get the lions share of decisions, and phases of extreme misfortune. I'm not sure how you can despute this.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 26 December 2010 Posted 26 December 2010 *To add, this MOT seems a pretty balanced guy comapared to that other Leeds fan we had on here, 'weluv' or some shit like that.
