Is anyone on here a building surveyor or close to the industry? I’m thinking of a career switch and would be grateful of PM’ing a few questions.

Anyone know how to fix one of these? I can reattach the twist wheel thing but turning it doesn't do anything, although there is resistance

If there is a flat face on the spindle bit in the bath then line up the screw on the bit in your hand. You then need to put a screwdriver (or it could need an allen key) through the hole in the cover and tighten it onto the spindle

Thank you. That bit I can do, but it won't turn far either way, and certainly doesn't shift the plug.

I thought wheel might have been loose, which is why I took it off, but turning the spindle with grips doesn't make any difference. Could the plug itself be stuck? Not sure how to get that out, it's very flush with its surround and the gap isn't wide enough to get anything in to prise it

Yes the plug could be stuck. The only option you have is if you cant get a really small screwdriver or maybe a stanley knife blade in and prise the plug up is to remove the trap and push the plug out from underneath, obviously if you do have to do this make sure you get all the water out the bath first 🤣 another option is if you have a plunger maybe the plug will pull out using that

If you can manage to remove the plug there will be a screw that winds in and out underneath it to adjust the height and this usually has a little locking nut to stop it from adjusting itself. Also have a look inside the hole itself as when you turn the overflow bit there is a little flap that should go up and down that in turn lifts the plug

Stanley knife/Screwdriver not an option (gap not even big enough for those). Going to see if I've got one of those little suction cups for changing spotlights. And see if the neighbours have a plunger (I've got a futuristic plastic concertina thing that whilst great for unblocking lavs won't help for this).

Cheers

As well as other suggestions, Have you tried WD40 on the spindle bit? Maybe limescale has built up behind the spindle and is preventing/restricting it from moving.

Also if you've forced the wheel to turn it might have taken off some the spindle (assuming it's plastic) and you might need to file the part where the screw grips the spindle so that it's flat enough to secure the screw in place against it.

Difficult to explain in words, sorry if it's not much help.

How can detectives/investigators know whether alleged victims are telling the truth or not, regarding sexual abuse claims (such as the Gregg Wallace one)?..

Honestly, attempting to prepare your defence by asking questions on the internet is only going to seal your fate when they examine your phone and computer.

They watch re-runs of The Bill and see what sort of questions they ask

The spindle is metal, and can be turned a bit either way but it's hard to tell if it's actually turning or just twisting the whole mechanism. I've sprayed 3 in 1 oil into every place I can access but I still don't really know how the thing actually works so not sure if this is going to help.

Spoke to the plumber last night who reckons we'll have to have the side panel off which could be a nightmare as there's a lot crammed into our bathroom, furniture wise. Lesson learned - don't let people build in overly complicated mechanisms of little advantage into projects that you cannot get to if they go wrong

Update: managed to pull the actual plug out by cunningly Gorilla- taping a plastic car trim removal tool (perfect due to right angled prising bit at the end), letting the tape cure over night and then lifting it out. Pulled out hairs and shite, chucked the old Mr Muscle drain unblocker down and then oiled everything again, and it seems everything is now actually moving. Just need to put it back together....

Is the world out of balance or just plain mad when this is happening.

A pair of ruby red slippers worn by actress Judy Garland in the classic movie The Wizard of Oz have been sold for $28m (£22m) at a US-based auction on Saturday.

There are some other indicators that the world is both out of balance and plain mad out there.

Of course but these people aren’t consider bad or any other negative other than being very rich which some would consider being bad and are seemingly admired and viewed with jealousy by some.

I simply cannot relate to it.
