davieG Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Which do you use in emails or perhaps you use nothing and what do you sign off with? I use Hi and either Regards or Best Regards for friends & businesses. Report - http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/magazine-12247262 Mind you judging by some posters on here I imagine a few of you use Idiot, fool etc.
Christoph Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Start with Hi, end with, thank you in advance. Usually becomes im asking for something from lecturers/staff
FoxyPV Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 For all work emails, I just begin with their name and end with a 'thanks' and then my email signature. I'm not a big fan of 'Hi'. It just seems a bit informal. For personal emails, anything goes.
StanSP Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 Use Hi/Hey most of the time. End with Thanks and then my name. Depends on who I'm writing to and what it's about. The above is usually just informal. Even to my personal tutor it would usually just be 'Hi Prof X' and just a polite ending.
Finnegan Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 At work, if I'm familiar with the person I'll use Heya, Hey or Hi, if it's my boss I'll Hello. I end with Thanks. Out of work I don't really email but assuming it's a mate "Sup dickhead" usually does the trick.
Asha Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 I start with 'Hey there' or 'Good morning/afternoon/evening' and end with 'Regards, Asha'.
StanSP Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 'Oi cunt' is probably best avoided. Unless (!) you're talking to any from http://www.foxestalk.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=52908
SOCCERROO FOX Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 For work i always say hi then regards and in the middle i say i've attached your invoice it is overdue pay up or i ruin your life
AoWW Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 The one I find really tricky is if you're emailing a job application. Yes, I'm usually attaching a formal letter along with the application form, but then it seems a bit odd to say 'Hi' in the email and to sign off informally. Usual work emails it's usually 'hi' or 'hello' and 'thanks' at the end.

To whom it may concern is usually a goer there....but there is normally so many people going for the one job they just jump straight to the attachments
Wycombe Fox Posted 21 January 2011 Posted 21 January 2011 I used to sign e-mails off with 'regards' until I did some work on a home for adults with learning difficulties. I accidentally hit the 't' instead of the 'g'.
