Captain... Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 If I recall correctly Waghorn was very effective from the right last season, mostly before Fryatts injury. He is left footed so would do well in that role as long as he comes inside and attacks the box in support of Yakubu, leave the wingplay to Naughton! He has to be on a high after last week, give him a go.... And no, we cant play 4-4-2 with the players we have, 3-5-2 maybe although I am not a fan it would be a natural for us. Much too late in the season to change things that much. Bizarrely enough I just suggested something like to you in the other thread One solution could be to adopt a more MON like set up, looking at the players we have, a back 5 of Naughton, Bruma, Bamba, Mee, and PVA, would be pretty ****ing solid, either Bamba or Bruma picking up the sweeping role carrying the ball out of defence, it would also allow us to use our full backs pace to greater effect and they could provide the width, having that defensive wall would allow a more creative midfield trio of probably Wellens, King and either Gally or Abe, then Yakubu up front with I would actually go with Waghorn in this case his greater energy and willingness to close down up the top of the field would compensate for Yakubu's "lack of energy" while the Yak leads the line, harsh on Dyer and Vassell, but I think we need a few more players running their bollocks off for the cause and Waghorn certainly does that. Would love to see him score tomorrow, can't see him taking a penalty though if Gallagher is on the pitch. We all know how he would celebrate if he scored, fist pumping, and jumping up and down like it was the most important goal of his career.
Captain... Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Oops double post, Yeah I agree about chipping down the middle is a bad idea, he would just smash it into the roof of the stand net.
Danno Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 To be honest I don't know why Yakubu is on 50,000 a week and Waghorn will be on a considerably less amount. All Yakubu does in my opinion is score easy goals and does not work hard enough. I think waggy worked harder for the 5 or so minutes he came on (tracking back etc.) than Yakubu did all game

MPH Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 I wonder if either of you would have called him loyal had he gone on loan to Derby (of all clubs)... You daft bugger! of course he wouldnt of been loyal if he had gone to Derby. how can he be? But he didnt. ' i bet if your friend had chopped your hand off you wouldnt call him a friend' To be honest I don't know why Yakubu is on 50,000 a week and Waghorn will be on a considerably less amount. I think waggy worked harder for the 5 or so minutes he came on (tracking back etc.) than Yakubu did all game are you for real? Easy goals? That Goal against Derby was easy? There isnt a single other player at the club who could of scored a goal like that....
StanSP Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 You know for sure Yak is on 50k a week? Yak and Waggy are 2 different kinds of players. Yeah they're both big and bulky, but they both play 2 different kinds of games. Just be happy that they're both scoring. Or is that too hard for you?

I'm not usually a fan of 3-5-2, too easy to counter in my view. However it has to be said, we have a squad that is perfect for this setup, natural wingbacks, three of the best centerbacks in the division, three man midfield to include Gallagher and Vassell or Waghorn playing off 'the Yak'. Probably too much upheaval to make the change at this stage of the season, but we do need to step significantly from our recent performances to get a result, let alone a win. Nice drive down the M4 tomorrow afternoon, you going or are you still in Spain?
Brown Fox Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 If Sven starts waggy tomorrow he will score. He already runs through brick walls for the team and with the motivation of the play off semi final last year and his last minute winner on friday then he will 100% score. You heard it here first!

I think waggy worked harder for the 5 or so minutes he came on (tracking back etc.) than Yakubu did all game Too many city fans want a striker that runs around like a headless chicken. The yak is class can score a goal from nothing. Waghorn to me is very much like Hume, capable of the sublime but seems to struggle with the simple. The guy has the potential to be good but needs to start doing the simple stuff well. People saying he can't play wide, if i remember rightly he played wide right quite a few times last season with great success. Friday was the first time this season that we have seen the Waghorn from last season, work rate, pace, finishing and desire. One swallow doesn't make a summer, but lets hope it kicks starts his season.

All Yakubu does in my opinion is score easy goals and does not work hard enough. I think waggy worked harder for the 5 or so minutes he came on (tracking back etc.) than Yakubu did all game Because he scores the easy goals, as well as some belters, our biggest problem pre Christmas was that we were creating lots of chances but couldn't put them away, Waghorn is partly responsible for this. Yakubu is also needed to lead the line, we need a focal point to the attack, if goes off chasing the ball, like Rooney used to for England, our attack has no shape, as it is he is the focus, he ties up both centre backs and creates space for the likes of Dyer, Gally, Vassell and King to ghost in to. If he starts tracking back or drifting out wide it will be much easier to pick the wide players cutting in and King heading in to the box. 4 goals, 3 assists in 6 games is worth 50k a week in this over inflated footballing market. Waghorn, 4 goals 0 assists in 11 starts.

Nice drive down the M4 tomorrow afternoon, you going or are you still in Spain? Still in Spain, I am now living in Pamplona, should really update my profile. I understand what you said in a post a while back about being out of the country and so far away from Leicester makes you really miss the club and the coverage, it's why I signed up to this forum, I only get to 3-4 games a year. So I rely on others who go to the game for certain things and when you do get to watch the odd live stream you really start to over analyse things. I've watched Davie G's upload of the Derby game a couple of times now, we really were lacklustre in the second half, especially in midfield.

Still like to see more of Waghorn, narrow right and well forward, Gallagher slightly behind in the inside left spot.

OzFox Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 Can't make my mind up about Waghorn. Most of the time he shows a shocking reluctance to use his right foot, and yet twice now, against Thailand and Bristol, he's put away decent finishes with his right. He's obviously capable....just wish he was more consistent.
Wymsey Posted 21 February 2011 Posted 21 February 2011 I think his poor performances earlier on in the season were due to his knee niggles. Just glad he scored on Friday and hope his season starts off from here.

Sadly we have been in England for most of the last three years, We have a house in Antequera, about 50-60 Km inland from the Costa del Sol. It's rented out long term at the moment, miss it a lot... We occasionally get to our apartment on the coast, just outside Marbella, but strangely it is nowhere near as enjoyable as actually living there. Foxes Player is definitely worth having if you are out of the country, Stringers commentary is better than nothing and the highlights are generally very good, usually about 5mins of actual play, much better than FLS. Since I have been going to matches on a regular basis I try and write a report and/or a player assessment aimed mainly at expats, don't aiways have the time but I do it when I can.

Although we lived on the "lower slopes" as my brother put it Ace! We are pretty much on the junction between London Rd (the High St) and Roxeth Hill. Short walk from the Castle, proper pub, no TV, canned music or fruit machines, class... Mind you for much of the late 80's we used to live on the Old South Head Rd, about half a klick down from Bondi Junction, where are you based?

They still had pickled eggs on the bar last time I was in there. Kings Head used to be great too, especially in summer, but it's now flats or something. Sounds like you get around. I'm in Sydney's Inner West these days, near Balmain. Not quite as convenient for getting to Leicester matches sadly.

Used to be a very tough area though the gentryfication was already undar way in the eighties. I worked in York St in the city and mrs M at the Royal Hospital for Women in Paddington, so the eastern suburbs were great for us. About 20 mins walk to the beach, Bondi in winter, just to walk along and Tamarama in summer to sunbathe and swim. Nice though Harrow on the Hill is, it's a long walk to the beach... No proper football to speak of so we used to go down to Randwick to watch the egg chasers, good side in those days, Matt Burke, a couple of Ella brothers and when he was not away with the Wallabies David Campese. Nice to sit on the grass bank, back to the sea with a cold beer, Resch's (dark) for preference.
