Martyn Waghorn

I recall Alan Young on RL a few weeks ago saying Waghorn's time would come soon. Last night proved him right and demonstrated perfectly that the team's success depends on the entire squad.

I too remember that, He was having a conversation on the phone in with a little lad wasn't he?

Yes his time will come. I hope that wasn't his time yesterday, merely the start of it

If he keeps scoring when he comes on there's not really much we can complain about.

I think he's worth a start. Vassell, understandably, has struggled out on the wing in recent weeks.

Put Gallagher on the right, Dyer on the left with Waghorn and Yakubu up front.

Brilliant to see Waggy get his goal last night! :D

I still can't see him starting against Cardiff but he's showed he can come on & have an impact & that gives us great options up front, along with Yak, Gally, Vassell & Dyer. I'd be tempted to rest Vassell against Cardiff as I think he was one of a few players that looked a little tired last night, but if that does happen, I'd expect Dyer to come in because of his pace, which is a great weapon, especially away from home when we are more likely to be hitting teams on the break.

This is the best thing that could have happened though. Will give Waggy a bit of confidence & puts him right back into the mix. It's crucial to have options at this time of the year & he really showed how he can change a game last night, not just through his goal, but also the passion & determination he showed by chasing everything down.

I thought it was fantastic how virtually every player celebrated with him. All of them, whether they be on loan or owned by LCFC knew how important that goal could end up being. I think they were also so happy for Waghorn. It just showed great team spirit

Waghorn made his statement in the best way possible. I was thrilled for him. It was also good to see him keep a shot down and hit the target. If only the rest of the team had his urgency, Bamba and Mee excepted.

What pleases me most is that we can still improve considerably even with what we've got.

What didn't please me was how easily we got reduced to playing some shit football by the simple expedient of Bristol pressing tight on us just like Derby ended up doing. And by our failing to support each other as a unit which was characteristic of our recent past.

It wasn't just his goal last night, it was the fact he was all over the place. He scored the winner, but he probably saved us twice when they were on the break too. He looked really up for it, and that finish...

Much better from the guy, he's looked a bit sorry for himself and low on confidence until last night.

ohhh waggy

Last night was perfect. Came on and showed real tenacity from the second he stepped on the pitch.

Made a solid contribution generally whilst on and then a sublime goal on his right foot. He could not have hit that sweeter and he probably won't hit one like that again for a while even if he tries to.

He deserves a start for me, Vassell scares defenders shitless on the ball when he attacks and I think he was decent yesterday but I don't know how Waggy can deserve a start more than what he does after last night. What's more, Cardiff could be the perfect place to start too...

While I'm pretty sure Sven will stick with his favourites as ever, what I think was more telling than anything last night was the celebrations.

The passion Waggy showed after scoring makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. It's the same passion that made him break down after that miss last may, and it's a quality too many players these days just don't have.

Absolutely chuffed for him, lets hope there's more of the same.

Agree totally.

We seem to have a great team spirit

I also apologise Martyn for saying a few minutes before you scored that you had no right foot

Did you have some humble pie with your pint and ticket offer Corky? :P

I think (I use to do so sometimes) :D that Svennis must have this summer to build up those players not playing so much today to the playmakers he want them to be!

Some of them don´t play like he want but when next season starting they are absolutly marvellous or if they don´t have accept Svens playing they are out!

I wonder if either of you would have called him loyal had he gone on loan to Derby (of all clubs)...

And I wonder if Sousa had stayed where would we be now? Fact is it didn't happen so is kind of a mute if point.

No it isn't. He's been here half a season and obviously expected to play a big part. He hasn't and was on the verge of going to Derby, but wasn't allowed to presumably because Sven's plans for a replacement didn't work out. How is that an indication of loyalty?

what a moronic thing to say, the fact that he chose to stay and NOT play for us instead of PLAYING for the shaggers say`s it all !

Think it was the club who decided that actually. Waggy was knocking on Sven's door two three times a week looking for a loan move apparently.

Glad he stayed though. He has a big part to play still!!

Judging by Clough's words, it wasn't Waggy that chose to stay but rather the management that didn't let him go.

How do we put together a team and formation that allows Waghorn to play? That's the question, he's good enough to put away 10-15 goals a season at this level which means we could get half a dozen crucial goals out of him before the end of the season but where do we play him? He's no good out wide and if we revert to 4-4-2 can we play that way?

I want the lad in the team as he's capable of sheer brilliance, but he's not better than Yakubu and he's wasted out wide. However, Vassell is below par and Dyer is very incosistent so perhaps Sven will give him a whirl out there and hope for the best.

If I recall correctly Waghorn was very effective from the right last season, mostly before Fryatts injury.

He is left footed so would do well in that role as long as he comes inside and attacks the box in support of Yakubu, leave the wingplay to Naughton!

He has to be on a high after last week, give him a go....

And no, we cant play 4-4-2 with the players we have, 3-5-2 maybe although I am not a fan it would be a natural for us.

Much too late in the season to change things that much.

I think if Waggy scores tomorrow he should go and pretend to cry in the spot where he did in the playoffs. :giggle:
