MisterKee Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 There's so many around Leicester now, which is currently your favourite?
Houdini Logic Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 Propoganda if I feel like touching kids. Mosh if I feel like vomiting on the floor and having noone notice
Parafox Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 There's so many around Leicester now, which is currently your favourite? I visit these places in a professional capacity during opening hours as and when required and it seems to me they're all pretty shit.
evs_the_fox Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 Of those on the list – Superfly. It's the only place that plays underground house/techno with any sort of headline DJs. There is Sophbeck and Hub too but they're more bar-type places and tend to feature local DJs rather than 'names'. It's sad really, Leicester used to have a good club scene - Industria, the old Leicester Uni, Mosquito Coast, Junction 21, Club City, Soho, Helsinki... The majority of venues you list are nothing but Sharon and Tracey efforts. Propaganda is a craic for a night on the sauce though.
Zingari Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 I visit these places in a professional capacity during opening hours as and when required and it seems to me they're all pretty shit. They've obviously never witnessed the Carousel or Van Damme experience first hand . Young 'uns today don't know what a good night out is , and I bet they've never done the Lambeth Walk in their lives. It's all sex and drugs and rock'n roll for them , they've no imagination

We never had sex or drugs back in the heady days of the establishments you mention, although the strippers would oblige in return for a bag of whelks but they were so unremittingly rough that even Mick Jagger would've said no. I wonder what the modern day equivalent of the Lambeth Walk is. Oh well... must get back to my Daily Mail...

Parafox Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 saw my 1st stripper at the Van Damme 1982 I hope you were of an age to be allowed in... 14 usually
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 I visit these places in a professional capacity during opening hours as and when required and it seems to me they're all pretty shit. i second that buddy - although Fan Club is okay ish
Fox1651 Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 There's so many around Leicester now, which is currently your favourite? Fan Club is the best of a bad bunch im afraid
The Padster Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 Of the 6 you have named, 4 of them are full of chavs and the other 2 are full of people who are up their own arses. There really is a poor selection in Leicester, even my usual haunt of Mosh is now full of pretentious upstarts. I think I'm just one of those Grumpy Young Men.
Fox1651 Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 think Leicester is in dire need of a decent nightclub personally
Houdini Logic Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 Can we restrict this thread to users under 30 years of age? All this reminiscing and nostalgia is making me ill

All this reminiscing and nostalgia is making me ill Go easy on us old folk, we have a lot to look back on and not much to look forward to. Ahh, Baileys, The Palais, Fusion, Grannys (the club, not the old ladies)
rico Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 don't forget Trevinos,Le Chateau,Coasters,Mr Keisas .............oh the memories
Parafox Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 don't forget Trevinos,Le Chateau,Coasters,Mr Keisas .............oh the memories Maybe we should have a "nightclub memories" Thread so we don't annoy the youngsters here. Mr Keisas used to be Baileys cabaret club. Le Chateau was a wine bar owned by the same eccentric bloke who owned Rapunzels on The Newark. He once offered to sell me his classic 1966 Rover for £50 just to drive him home cos he was pished... God how I wish i'd said yes instead of thinking "you're a drunken fool"
danny. Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 I generally end up at Sophbeck, makes me feel less dirty/sweaty as the generally surroundings are far dirtier than I. Generally nice crowd in there although one of the doormen is a bit of an idiot. Hub on bgate is a nice pre-club bar although not as good since the current owners started running it IMO

God how I wish i'd said yes instead of thinking "you're a drunken fool" i remember going on the opening week when it was Top Rank Suite Bailey's was brilliant though and much better ,I saw some fantastic acts there such as the drifters , johnny nash , johnny johnson bandwagon , foundations ( even gary glitter who was superb as a performer ) Loads of top comedians like Tommy Cooper Mike Read etc on mondays you could usually get in free with complimentary tickets was the rover a p4 , p6 type or the 2000 shape ? i had both and they were classy cars in the day

All this reminiscing and nostalgia is making me ill Don't be such a cheeky young upstart , you'll do well to remember that it was people of my generation that made this country what it is today , (trillions in debt) . just so you youngsters can have the luxury of paying it off for the next 50 years and don't forget that Although you are very unlikely to .
Christoph Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 Republic is good in terms of its layout and design but thats about as far as i'd go. Superfly for dnb and dubstep nights but really, leicester has no where good. All shit chart music everywhere
James. Posted 22 March 2011 Posted 22 March 2011 Used to be some half decent dnb nights at Leicester Uni - they were called Foundation or something... have they packed up? Remember local hero SS doing a quality set there a few years ago.

I remember Top Rank... I used to go to the Saturday afternoon teen disco, my dad bought me an orange courderoy jacket and purple flares especially. I went to see Tommy Cooper at Baileys but he didn't show up and was replaced by an unknown magician called Paul Daniels who got me (and others) on stage to do a trick with some spongey balls... never been the same since that experience I liked it... not a lot (sorry couldn't resist)
