Republic is good in terms of its layout and design but thats about as far as i'd go. Superfly for dnb and dubstep nights but really, leicester has no where good. All shit chart music everywhere

Agree with that. £3 for a bottle of bud?? ridiculous prices. I personally prefer to just go on bar crawls and keep away from the nightclubs. don't know what it is but i've always preferred to be in a bar with my mates drinking instead of going out full on clubbing, if you can call it that now.

Used to be some half decent dnb nights at Leicester Uni - they were called Foundation or something... have they packed up? Remember local hero SS doing a quality set there a few years ago.

I think they still have them yeah.

I've not been in Republic but it always seems fairly busy, not sure I'll be a massive fan of the crowd in there, mind. Life is just about attendable, tolerable, actually quite decent on a good night, but some of the people in Republic look like weapons. I'm sure I'll give it a go at some point in the near future though, not going to tar all their customers with the same brush.

I really do miss the days when going to town for a night out was an event. You'd plan it weeks before hand, and get ready on the Saturday, iron a smart shirt in the morning, set your clothes out, have a shower, drench yourself in aftershave, book a taxi, then go out and have a good laugh. The interest in just going out seems to have dropped incredibly in Leicester. I remember Saturday nights being rammed everywhere. Not the case anymore.

Panic used to be a cracking night the best part of 18 months back, used to be monthly then went weekly (iirc), which completely killed it, not sure if it's still running.

I know it's grotty, smelly, common and altogether a bit of a dump, but Liquid was the first club I ever went to in Leicester, and for that reason I'll always have a special place for it. I go in there and it feels like my shithole (no euphemism intended about feeling shitholes). And, to be honest, once you've seen Bert and Tommeh off here both simultaneously pulling out moves that'd warrant a 10 from Bruno Tonioli on the dancefloor there, it's a given that it's favourable for me.

Last time I was going town frequently, Mosh on a Tuesday was the choice night, this was May / June / July / August 2010. Unfortunately it soon become a hive of fuckwits and a bit of a chore to go to, coinciding with the return of Leicester and DMU students, and just the repetitive nature of it all. I'm sure if I went back now I'd have a cracking night.

Fan Club always seems to be pretty average at best for me, the layout of everything in there is terrible.

Ultimately, Leicester's nightlife is what you make of it. There are a lot better cities for a night out, but there's a lot worse. I actually think some of the bars in town are pretty decent if you catch them on a night when the atmosphere inside is good. The Orange Tree, Lansdowne, Time, Firebug, Slug & Lettuce, Hush and Terrace are all more than decent haunts and give you a varied selection of drinks if you just fancy a few swift ones, or if you're crawling before hitting a club and the inevitable VK trail.

The clubs aren't the best but they do a job, if they have a decent amount of people in and play the odd song that gets everyone going, it'll do for me.

even my usual haunt of Mosh is now full of pretentious upstarts.

Never a truer word said. Used to be a right laugh, now it's just a place for perma-tanned cunts to admire themselves in mirrors. Hopefully it's changed since the last time I went.

Prefer a pub crawl then end up in helsinkis or Canvas bar (the old 39 steps)

From what I remember of Canvas, it seemed decent. I remember virtually nothing though, apart from some purple lights and some glass.

Pubs opening later killed clubs for me.

Much prefer bars to clubs. Will happily start a night in Polar Bear / Soar Point, move onto Firebug / Odd Bar and stay there til closing.

If I get dragged to Mosh I'll go but I find it fucking cringeworthy. Poor man's Roxy / Frog / Electric Ballroom!

Would have been Formation I'd imagine... as in Formation Records which is SS' label.

They used to have a shop on Charles St too – 5HQ, remember going in there as a 15 year old buying Helter Skelter tape packs, haha.

Don't be such a cheeky young upstart , you'll do well to remember that it was people of my generation that made this country what it is today , (trillions in debt) . just so you youngsters can have the luxury of paying it off for the next 50 years and don't forget that

Although you are very unlikely to .

lol The glory days.

Still love hitting town, as I mainly live away and try many other Cities throughout the year so Leics is probably every few months as opposed to every week. Leant to appreciate it much more now. Out next saturday doing a day session in the Dog then after that, fvck knows.

I'd say Mosh is consistently decent, go there most of all. My favourite nights in Leicester have probably been at Fan Club and Manilla though. Fan Club on a good night is great but is dead quite a lot.

Sophbeck is pretty cool but it's usallu empty-ish and I'm usually knackered by the time I get there.

Republic is everything I hate about a club. Arsehole bouncers, crap music, full of chavvy scumbags, and just a corporate, shitty atmosphere. And not only is it the scene of Knocky's misdemeanor, I wasn't allowed in one time (because the fat slag bouncer didn't like that my shirt had an Italy flag on it) and was thrown out the other time (because I was 'drunk'), and my sister's boyfriend who's a copper got stitched up by the same fat slag bouncer there and is now facing a misconduct charge at work.

Agree with MTWG 2 year old post lol Mosh is just a chore (same old shite week in week out, gets boring really quickly) and Finnegans right in that it can be cringeworthy.

Just prefer going to a bar tbh

Hate the people in republic but always end up having a decent night in there generally. Mosh is alright, find the peple much more tolerable than Republic. Despise XY, hate it in there. I actually don't mind Liquid too much, generally don't like the people in there either but I'm usually to hammered to care.

Living in Nottingham I can say it's one million times better for a night out. The Forum's my fave there on top of the fact that there's a ridiculous amount of bars to choose from. Such a better atmosphere as well!

I've only been in Liquid once, for my sisters 18th. My cousins came over from Italy to sample the nightlife.

To say Liquid lived up to it's reputation is an understatement. We walked through the door and immediately saw a mass brawl, must have involved about 5 people, bodies just flying across the room lol So anyway we head over to the bar on the other side of the room and within 30 seconds there's another scrap, ending with a bouncer grabbing some bloke by the throat and almost picking him up by it and driving him towards the door lol It was a sweet manouvre I have to say. It was a good night though.

I do get bored of Mosh but I assume that's what happens when you go to the same club whenever you go out. I assume the others would have the same effect if they were good enough for me to go regularly.

Anyone who voted for Liquid or Republic. lol

Very rarely go out in Leicester anymore but if I have too it's Fan Club, best of a bad bunch.

Can't remember what hair colour, I just know she's really fat, and a slag lol

One of my mates somehow knows one of them so shes gets us in for free. I'm genuinely scared of her haha

Any club is terrible unless you're tanked up, but I'm one of those that can just about enjoy anywhere so long as I'm in with a decent crowd. Mosh is a favourite, purely because of the music, but if I go with the right people then I don't mind being dragged along to chavvier places like Republic or Liquid/Envy, so long as I'm not sober enough to notice how many knobheads I'm surrounded by! Best thing to do in those kinds of places is head for the cheesy rooms, as they tend to have less roided-up posers about.
