Julian Joachim Jr Shabadoo Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 I fell out with Fan Club some years ago when completely pissed out my brain, I scaled the railings inside belting out "Don't Stop Me Now" - the bouncer didn't take "It's my 21st" as an excuse Used to enjoy a bit of Mosh, upstairs for a few corny songs, then downstairs and bop to some metal. When I used to go regularly 5 or 6 years ago, the metal DJ in the basement would play anything I'd write down - think he'd get sick of Napalm Death and Slayer requests so when I jotted down "Incubus, Nirvana, Exteme" it'd be next on the playlist, brilliant! Last couple of times I've been I've felt like a right pensioner - no one in there looks even 18, and every song on the ground floor on a Saturday sounds like Busted
Soar Fox Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 The couple of times I've tried to get into Mosh the doorman have turned me away saying "don't think this is your kind of place"
Rincewind Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 The couple of times I've tried to get into Mosh the doorman have turned me away saying "don't think this is your kind of place" A mate and me were told that a few years ago at Time near the station. We had suits on. Funny really because he is about 10 years ago and sometimes talks about not being alowed in Leicester pubs dressed in a Teddy Boy suit and blue suede shoes. He said he bought the shoes especially for a night out and to impress the girls. The oldies used to look at him and his mates with disgust when they walked in a pub.

Saturday is pretty shit.
ballso Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 i haven't been out in leicester for a good couple of years now. in fact, i probably haven't stepped foot into a nightclub over here for a couple of years either. i did when i went travelling last year, but that's a given really! i've just found that as i've gotten older, the less interested i am in clubs in general. i'm 26 now, so not (that) old, but i much prefer just going around a few bars now with mates. i've found i've gotten grumpier as i've gotten older, and clubs now just seem like some hellish nightmare to me. load of kids in there who can't handle their booze and shit music played at excessive levels. it just doesn't appeal to me now! i must admit, when i used to go to leicester i'd end up in mosh or fan club, because generally they were the only places that played music that me and my mates were semi into. both places were as dingy as anything though! what's leicester like nowadays, still a few decent bars there? last time i went out there were places like terrace bar, mars bar etc and a few good ones over brauny gate.
The Year Of The Fox Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 I couldn't tell the last time I went for a night out. Liquid used to be very good though 'when I was a lass'
RonnieTodger Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 I’ve only been going out in the last couple of years and Republic has been the best. I haven’t been to Fan Club, as I get the impression I’m a bit young. Liquid is a dump, and Mosh is pretty grim. I’ve been to Sosho a couple of times and had really good nights but you get the impression it’s full of pretenders. i.e. the Essex wannabees draped in fake tan. That’s the blokes. I’ve only been to XY/Superfly when I was underage, so I can’t comment on that either. IFrom my experience, it’s very rare you see chavs in republic now. They tend to be getting chased out of Liquid by bouncers. I once saw someone wearing a Leicester Tigers shirt in there
Soar Fox Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 Went into sosho a couple of months ago, was only in there for about 20 minutes before getting chucked out with my friend. Went outside for a cigarette stood near the door but not blocking it, doorman comes over doesn't ask us nicely tells us to move further down. No problem moved further down then he says "move down further" he was just trying to act the big man now, thinking he can push people round. So me & my friend told him to FVCK OFF we both do kick boxing so we can looks after ourselves, he then calls for back up and 4 doorman come rushing out, didn't even touch or grab us just asked us politely to leave through the back gate which we did with no aggro. Should have seen the doormans face who started it all, couldn't have been any older than 21 but looked like he wanted to cry.

I once saw someone wearing a Leicester Tigers shirt in there To be fair you're not wrong, sometimes it's like a day out at the old folks home. On the other hand, that really doesn't bother me if they've got some quality older music. I can't be doing with most of the modern stuff, that's why Fan Club and Mosh appeal to me, they've got a bit of cheesey stuff, songs that I genuinely like listening to sober as well. I've never seen Mosh as 'grim' or a 'shitheap' tbh. It's not particularly rough or dirty. I do go mostly on a Tuesday though when it's full of students.
jonthefox Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 Hate the people in republic but always end up having a decent night in there generally. Mosh is alright, find the peple much more tolerable than Republic. Despise XY, hate it in there. I actually don't mind Liquid too much, generally don't like the people in there either but I'm usually to hammered to care. Living in Nottingham I can say it's one million times better for a night out. The Forum's my fave there on top of the fact that there's a ridiculous amount of bars to choose from. Such a better atmosphere as well! Rock city
Finnaldo Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 Expanding a bit, I sometimes clean up at Sgt. Peppers in Hinckley. Always smells like soured booze and once one of the other cleaners found a fetus in the toilet, where someone had had a miscarriage. I've refused to go in the toilets ever since.
Ozwin Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 Mosh is ****ing atrocious. Can't stand it. Stinks an'all. Republic is awful, full of people standing around for the sake of saying they're out. Full of posers. Horrible people, horrible place. Sophbeck is decent, got a cool vibe but it's tiny and when it's busy it's proper claustrophobic, also the bouncers (ones on the inside anyway) are always on your case for any dodgy dealings going on. Fair enough I guess but it can be a bit much. Liquid/Envy gets a hard time but it's actually a good laugh, I don't think I've ever had a bad night in Envy, the same shit cheesy music every week yet somehow it's always a laugh, I don't understand how it works but it just does and the girls in there don't seem quite as up their own arses like a lot of the others. Liquid...yeeeaaahh not so much, can be alright I guess, depends how you're feeling. Fan Club is like probably the worst club I've ever been in. Granted I went in sober but no amount of alcohol helped that night, it was just awful. Empty rooms, old people, ugh, not good. I've been to Sosho once, we somehow got in the VIP Lounge which was wicked, champagne, our own little booth, the lot, was good. Seems like a trendy little place actually, would liked to have spent more time in the actual club but it didn't seem too shabby from what I remember. I've missed a load I'm sure.
lavrentis Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 Worst "club" in Leicester by far is Redeemer. The creatures that go in there give me nightmares

Really don't know why that made me laugh. I'd say Sophbeck Basement and fan club only ever bin fan club once tho and they had dubstep/dnb in one room and trance and oldschool house in another i was well away! when i first started going town i went liquid got bored of getting in a scrap every weekend tho and mosh aint to bad just plays the same music everytime tho literally hear sandstorm dubstep remix and doctor p tetris everytime althought of i did hear jamie t shelia in the middle room once thats worth a point on it's own.

ScouseFox Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 I've been out in Leicester once (well twice but in one weekend). We went to Mosh and it was quite funny. We were all 18 at the time tho and anyone over 19/20 who tries to go must be a bit weird. I went to reminisce about some of the songs from the early 2000s and to laugh at some of the kids in there. I felt quite old in there. I went somewhere else that was like a standard club. Pretty shit, woeful music and right nob heads everywhere. Then Sophbeck which was special. A proper scatty little drug den that place. Loved it. And it's (apparently) the only place open later than about 4 around Leicester. Obviously not a patch on Liverpool but I still had a funny two nights. Could imagine it becoming very boring very quickly tho.

Don't know how long ago it was that you had a night out in Leicester, but there's a few places that stay open till 6am, XY (superfluous used to aswell) sophbeck, long bar, basement, Envy. Agree with you regarding sophbeck I've walked out of that place many a times in bright sunshine holding a can of red stripe.

Agree with you regarding sophbeck I've walked out of that place many a times in bright sunshine holding a can of red stripe. It wasn't too long ago, like last October maybe. We didn't know where to go because we weren't from round there but we asked a few birds we were talking with and they said that was the place to go to open until it was light. Or maybe they might've said the best place open later, not the only place. Either way it was a great shout. The dirtier and dingier the place, the more fun to be had at that kinda time.
SystonFox Posted 3 July 2013 Posted 3 July 2013 Anywhere that has people posing with bottles of grey goose and lads will rolled up sleeves is a shitheap. Republic and sosho guilty of this Fan club and mosh are absolute dives but at the end of the day I always have a cracking night in these places. Nowadays I prefer brauny gate bars as the place isn't full of pretentious wankers being cocks and looking for trouble. Bars in town have been mentioned as decent as follows ; time, long bar, firebug, terrace, hakanou (if you can stomach birds posing for pics with coconuts!) Soph beck is ok but full of people doing lines in the bogs. Each to their own!

The creatures that go in there give me nightmares lol Went a couple of times when I was 17 / 18 back when it was Ret. I ****ing hate metal people. Hideous, overweight goth girls wearing corsets way too small and foul smelling, sweaty, shirtless ***** in need of a haircut "moshing" on their own to the same repeat of RATM and Metallica every week. Ugh. Never again.

whoareyaaa Posted 4 July 2013 Posted 4 July 2013 Most of the clubs listed are shit as is the nightlife in Leicester now days, Republic generally people just looking for a fight or standing there thinking there Al Pacino, Liquid used to be decent about 2 years ago still had a few decent nights in there... Fan club absolute dogbowl stinks of piss and shit. Superfly is decent. If I had the money I would open up a nightclub in Leicester that would be the place to go unfortunately I don't have the money available.
