Racism within LCFC Fans

I rarely post on this forum with the knowledge that anyone who posts against the grain can get bullied into submission by the more regular posters, but never the less here goes:

As many know, India won the cricket world cup today for the first time since the early 80's (I don't follow cricket but heard the game on the radio) and with Leicester being such a multicultural city (I believe that Melton/Belgrave Road at this moment in time is blocked due to celebrations) I would expect many fans to be tolerant of ethnic minorities, I never thought that racism within LCFC supporters existed. I'm a season ticket holder along with several British Asian chaps who sit around me, we're all Priority 1 or 2 for aways too and have all experienced racism to some degree from home fans at away games, be it within the ground or en route (Bristol City and the poppadom incident springs to mind) we all take it with a pinch of salt, It's all banter... Right? We've come to accept that there will be teams who city play and you expect to hear "Town full of Paki's" you brush it off and carry on supporting your team. Something I've always been proud of as a city fan was how diverse our fan base is.

I was on board Fox Travel Coach 1 today and on the trip home from the 'Boro game today and I was appalled by the reaction of the majority of the bus when a coach (who was billowing thick black smoke down the motorway) full of Indian supporters pulled onto the hard shoulder. "Leave them... Look at it! Full of Wogs! Let the bluddy coach blow up" was the comment I remember most, rather than scorn, the majority of the top deck seemed to join in cheering and laughing. I was stunned. Now the India fans were gesturing as we passed, I thought that this was what caused the comments, but the strength and volume of the abuse that followed was cringe worthy. Anyone that has been on Coach 1 will know it's a very tight knit group, everyone seems to know everyone else. As we pulled into Leicester a similar situation occurred, before the Jag garage a group of white blokes did pretty much the same thing, swearing and giving abuse... the reaction? "Ha... boys being boys".

As a supporter of LCFC I've always thought of our fans being open to different cultures, apparently not.

The point of this post I suppose is to see if anyone else has has a similar experience?

I hardly think a bus load of people represents the views of the majority of Leicester fans but it's clearly unacceptable. We're a greatly diverse city and some people tolerate different cultures, others oppose them. Equality is never really possible unfortunately.

Probably just pissed off at the gut wrenching end to the game.

They may be but that is not an excuse to be racist, I'm appalled to hear about this. I thought we'd moved into the 21st century but obviously not.

Of course, but what worried me most was the people on that bus are the people that go to pretty much all the away games, that's why they know each other so well. It disappoints me to think of this as the 'hardcore' section of our support.

You were on the top deck, you say?

I know most people on there and the last thing I would describe them as is racist. :o

Somebody probably pissed all in their flasks, and the result tipped them over the edge.

Just shows some people are 'braindead' when it comes to them living in a city where there's a variety of different cultures etc and they just abuse them. Absolute knobbers.

Well I was at the back if coach one, on the top deck. I can pretty much, almost certainly say I didn't hear that.

Like I said i don't know exactly how many people joined in, It might have been the seats around me.

Sounds like a handful of ignorant knobbers to me, I know a few who go on Coach 1 and I certainly wouldn't describe them as racist myself.

Thought the fact the Yuki Abe alsation song got through all 10 verses was embarrassing.

People STILL haven't sacked off that song? Honestly thought it had died a death.

Racists are usually people who don't understand other cultures but living in Leicester these idiots should shurly understand different cultures and their ways. I bet they where just trying to prove to one another how hard they are by picking on a minority, badasses!!!!!!

****ers, though not altogether surprising.

The amount of '**** off you Portuguese ****' etc. i've heard directed at Ricardo in our ground too is disgusting. I genuinely think for some people that is as much a reason for the good old English Chris Weale chants as anything else. Then there is the racist/ignorant chants with Yuki etc.

I think scum was pretty much on the money imo.

if they were using the word "wog" i expect these were from the older generation, not really a term used by younger people?

Sounds like it was a joke. I very much doubt it was genuinely malicious racism. If it was a coach full of Americans waving American flags then you can imagine the reaction. Or a coach full of leggy blondes. Or a coach full of weight watchers attendees. Everybody gets a bit of stick from time to time in this country. There's nothing evil about it. No offence would have been intended. I work in an office where racial banter flies about in all directions all the time. I see it as progress. We've finally stopped lying to ourselves about the importance of race and can just get down to what we do best: take the piss out of each other for our differences.

This is assuming it was younger people. I can't speak for the older generation.

im very sad to hear that buddy - i have not personally heard any sort of racism for a long time now (from City fans i mean) and it is out of order - i HATE racism any form of it, banter is banter but people know where the line is surely? Im apalled, im sorry you have had to post this, but if something good comes of it and TRUE city fans rally around etc i think / hope / pray this will be a one-off incident - still dissapointing though
