MikeyT Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 In my brief tenure as a Steward at the club (before getting ill) i noticed bits of racism here and there. The main one was when we had the Sikh referee towards the beginning of last season, although it was only from one particular individual. He shouted and called the guy a monkey a couple of times for which he was obviously ejected from the stadium. Racism has no place in football or society whatsoever. Can't believe in this day and age it still continues to go on. I think for the most part it is only a handful of moronic idiots that are like this.
ian_marshall Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 The scary thing is that whilst fellow White people acknowledge that this type of behaviour is completely unacceptable, when was the last time you saw one of those people who claim to disapprove stand up to the abusers and do something about it?!? Until people from the same ethnic profile kick up a fuss and make these arrogant people realise their actions are wrong and socially unacceptable then they'll just continue to carry on doing it.
1964FOX Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 Shame I wasn't on the bus I would have told them they were a bunch of racist idiots. It also concerns me that some on here who are defending it as banter surely you realise it has got to the original poster who clearly states he doesn't post often and is used to standard racist banter at matches. The fact he has felt he had to make the post shows this was not banter and he must have felt there was some genuine racism, yes the result probably did upset them and that's not an excuse it purely brought out there true feelings and predjudices. The original poster should report them to tge club and get them banned from Foxes travel.

Why do only white people have to disapprove? Surely any colour, creed or race of people disapproves and should stand up and say something? If a white lad was being abused by a few Sikhs, Hindus, black people etc. I'd expect someone who was around at the time to do something. Racism should be stopped by everyone, not just one colour/creed/race of people.
sdb Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 Sounds like it was a joke. I very much doubt it was genuinely malicious racism. If it was a coach full of Americans waving American flags then you can imagine the reaction. Or a coach full of leggy blondes. Or a coach full of weight watchers attendees. Everybody gets a bit of stick from time to time in this country. There's nothing evil about it. No offence would have been intended. I work in an office where racial banter flies about in all directions all the time. I see it as progress. We've finally stopped lying to ourselves about the importance of race and can just get down to what we do best: take the piss out of each other for our differences. This is assuming it was younger people. I can't speak for the older generation. Caveman by name, Caveman by nature. Racism is wrong and offensive in every shape and form. I don't give a shit if it's a joke, i'm sure those being subjected to it on the side of the motorway with a broken down vehicle didn't see it that way.
Fosse Boy Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 Sad to hear that these kind of scumbags are about in our support. Thankfully it only sounds like an isolated pocket of twats, but they should still be treated with the contempt they deserve.

I actually should have stated in my post that it was another supporter (Caucasian) that alerted me and another steward that there was some racist speech towards the Sikh referee. He never approached the person shouting the abuse, but as i said, he alerted us to it so we could eject him.
Raj Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 Being an asian and ST holder for about 20 years ive encountered some shit from City fans and its hard to accept BUT the majority of folk ARE decent and ive met alot off here and they are most are diamonds. There will always be twats in every race, believe it or not some asians dont even like fellow asians cos they are from diferent areas! Dont let it bother you, just accept they are abit dim! I have a vast amount of City fans who are white lads and they really are great people and like ive said before as long as the MAJORITy are like this the we dont have top fret too much. When that Sikh ref was reffing there was an idiot next to L1 who kept giving him shit everytime. I told Ken Bates The STeward and he was ejected in the 2nd half. Its easy to watch and just tuttut to each other saying how wrong it is...its easier just to laugh about it. The hard thing is to do something,if you do then hopefully others will realise that its not acceptable! The dark days of bananas being chucked at Black players are gone BUT racism is still on the surface and always will be cos there will always be dimmos fromevery race! Up the City! Much love xx

I don't give a shit if it's a joke, i'm sure those being subjected to it on the side of the motorway with a broken down vehicle didn't see it that way. Those being subjected to it on the side of the motorway were, by the OPs own admission, "gesturing as they went past". What do you think those gestures were? A friendly smile and a wave? I don't think so. What do you expect the guys on the LCFC bus to do? Say, "oh, look, they're taking the mickey out of us, but we couldn't possibly do the same in return because that would make us evil racists." Get a grip ffs. We're English, we banter, that's what we do. If you ring fence race as a banter topic it becomes a barrier to full cultural integration and actually perpetuates racism as we know it, rather than solving it. There may have been a time in the distant past where it was necessary to protect minorities, but this is 2011 - these are times of equality, and equality means that if you can dish it out then you can take a bit back in return. If you have a problem with banter in general then please just move to Switzerland, or somewhere, because this country has enough problems without overly sensitive PC drones pretending to be offended because they can't take a joke.
21st Century Fox Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 We're English, we banter, that's what we do. Maybe you do. I'll be glad when the generation that think like this is finished. To much racist/sexist/xenophobic abuse is passed off as "banter"! Banter is generally an exchange of playful ribbing. I'm guessing the gestures that the Asian guys were making had NO racist connotations whatsoever so how is it "banter" to reply in that way??!

Can you explain the different reactions between the Indian lads gesturing and the white lads? So by that account, I should have used "banter" and shouted "Bluddy Goras" as a response?
Gaffer Posted 3 April 2011 Author Posted 3 April 2011 if they were using the word "wog" i expect these were from the older generation, not really a term used by younger people? The comment was said by an older chap yes

That is the single worst argument i've ever heard. English people being racist = banter. Cheers I'll use that next time I take the piss out of some ethnic minorities. I'd also be very surprised if the gestures started with the people stuck on the side of the motorway! As for overly sensitive, you're telling me to move to another country for deploring racist remarks. Nice one!
Houdini Logic Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 This has nothing to do with fans, or Leicester, or football... some people are just idiots and you get them in every walk of life.
Houdini Logic Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 Get a grip ffs. We're English, we banter, that's what we do. I thought we drank tea and ruined other people's countries
Gaffer Posted 3 April 2011 Author Posted 3 April 2011 What different reactions? As we pulled into Leicester a similar situation occurred, before the Jag garage a group of white blokes did pretty much the same thing, swearing and giving abuse... the reaction? "Ha... boys being boys".

As for overly sensitive, you're telling me to move to another country for deploring racist remarks. Nice one! Fair enough. I don't expect many people to understand my view on this. It takes a leap in thought away from the standard issue social brainwash. And yes, of course, the gestures simply must have begun with the evil white people. Those poor little Indian boys, they're so innocent and cute, they just don't have it in them to be mean and horrid, right? Because white people are automatically much worse than any other race? You imply this and then claim that you're not racist?? You white apologists are so bent with the way you try to claim the moral high ground on race when your whole argument itself is more fundamentally racist than the initial issue ever was. It honestly depresses me and I can't wait for true equality to emerge.
Cat Burger Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 I'm not surprised by this, it's part of the reason I don't go to much live football much anymore. I don't really enjoy cringing at the idiocy of people and getting into conflict by confronting people over it; I'm not big enough to just ignore it and laugh because it makes my blood boil. It's the older wankers that really make me seethe and I can't wait until they all die out. Although, unfortunately they seem more capable of copulating and procreating than non-Neanderthals, so I guess we'll always be stuck with the intransigent, egotistical, bigoted morons that make up about 20% of our fan base. And yes, I do mean to be esoteric in my vocabulary, as plenty of the cloth-headed cunts post on here, and think they are ok to do what they do. FTW.

You can try and claim intellectual superiority all you like but your argument so far essentially comes down to "it was a bit of banter". As I said earlier "wog" isn't banter, it's racist. This wasn't some forward thinking modern post-racist intellectual calling Asians "wogs" it was a stupid old racist twat. Your argument would be valid if racist terms weren't used, but they were and so it isn't.
