Matt Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 MOHAMMED al Fayed said fans angered at his soccer club's new Michael Jackson statue can "go to hell".The chairman of English Premier League side Fulham, said the unhappy fans can either do that or support its local rival Chelsea. Fayed was a close friend of the late pop phenomenon and unveiled his controversial tribute to the star outside Fulham's Craven Cottage stadium in west London, before its EPL game with Blackpool on Sunday. The colorful life-size monument was originally ordered to stand in the London department store Harrods, before the Egyptian businessman sold the chain and relocated the statue to his soccer club. The arrival of the memorial to the King of Pop, who had no connection to the club beyond a single visit in 1999, was lost on some Fulham's followers, who protested against the move. But Fayed rejected any complaints, saying, "If some stupid fans don't understand and appreciate such a gift they can go to hell. I don't want them to be fans. If they don't understand and don't believe in things I believe in they can go to Chelsea, they can go to anywhere else." He added, "People will queue to come and visit it from all over the UK and it is something that I and everybody else should be proud of." A nothing story really but nice way of talking to the fans/your customers Mr Al Fayed.
lcfc"weasel" Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 So if you don't believe in things he believe in you shouldn't support his club, what a pile of ****ing bullshit.
Webbo Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 On a similar note has anybody else seen the Dodi and Di memorial in Harrods? Truly stomach churning.
Libertine Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 They could've at least made it a good statue. Looks nothing like him.
Part Of The Crowd Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 You can understand why he'd be upset though, a good friend of his who passed away and he's going to defend it to the hilt. It's something that people would be passionate over.
Fosse Boy Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 Frickin' joke. Here's hoping Fulham fans do something pro-active and get rid of it.

ajthefox Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 What a nob. A great musician though he was, a statue of MJ outside the Walkers would make my stomach churn every time I saw it. What a fooking loony thing to do. Fayed doesn't seem to have done too bad a job there compared to some chairmen but how arrogant of him to think that because he owns the club, what the fans think is irrelevant. Just shows how detatched some rich folk are.
Part Of The Crowd Posted 3 April 2011 Posted 3 April 2011 I think he's more hitting back after hearing some less than pleasant things about a friend he's lost. He did it as a tribute to a good friend and someone that's touched a lot of people (I couldn't think of another way of putting it, so inb4 to any obvious jokes) with his music, was enthusiastic about the club on his visit, too. I would do a lot of things to remember someone I've lost, and say anything to people I didn't feel were respecting that. Maybe the statue wasn't the best thing ever, but picking fault with him for getting angry when people attack MJ is also not the best way to go. Could at least have done it in Bronze and said it was Maradonna.
Trav Le Bleu Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 You can understand why he'd be upset though, a good friend of his who passed away and he's going to defend it to the hilt. It's something that people would be passionate over. If he WAS really passionate about it, he'd have forked out some money for a decent artist to do the statue. The one they have looks like it came off a Mattel production line.
MikeyT Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 They could've at least made it a good statue. Looks nothing like him. You weren't kidding.
m00nie Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 it says the statue was bought to be placed in harrods originally but as he sold he it decided to use it at the ground.. hes only tried to do something for a friend.. can see why he got pissed off at people moaning at him, guess he should have handled it better though.. but another example of people are only human..
acooling08 Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 What a 'tard. I'd be so embarrassed being a Fulham fan!
BrummieFOX Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 You can understand why he'd be upset though, a good friend of his who passed away and he's going to defend it to the hilt. It's something that people would be passionate over. I'd hazard a guess that Fulham fans are also passionate about their club as well, including their ground and what statues are put up outside it. What I can't believe is the complete dictatorship way he has gone about it. No consultation whatsoever with the fans and when they have kicked up a fuss, he said that can go to hell or support Chelsea. “I don't want them to be fans. If they don't understand and don't believe in things I believe in they can go to Chelsea, they can go to anywhere else," An absolute disgrace!! Though I suppose this is the sort of thing that a fan of a team with no history, tradition or morals wouldn't be at all bothered about. Low blow, but I don't care, piss off!
Part Of The Crowd Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 I think anyone would admit that they'd be more passionate to defend a relatively recently passed away personal friend than a football club. If one of my mates died and someone had a go while at the same time someone had a go at me as a fan of my club, I know which would annoy me more. Statue is crap and a silly idea, but taking the piss out him for getting so wound up about it isn't great. Edit - Football may be something people are passionate about, myself included, but when someone dies everyone will agree it is just a bit more serious. Like how angry I got at your mocking of me as a fan, bro?
BrummieFOX Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 Fair enough he can mourn, though why show it by putting a statue up at Craven Cottage. Why not at his house or other business ventures. I wasn't taking the piss about him getting so wound up (and fully understand his passion towards Michael Jackson), I was shocked at how dictatorial his response was - you just simply can't speak like that to the people who keep the club running and come in their thousands every week. Michael Jackson has nothing to do with Fulham FC nor does Fayed's private life, he should not mix the two. Apologies for the MK Dons dig, had no place in this thread.
Houdini Logic Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 You weren't kidding. Why's he trying to wank off a statue?
Webbo Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 That's only the first half of it. Next season they're putting a statue in front of it with Jordy Chandler bending over.
