TheUltimateWinner Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 Mike Dean, Dubbed the worst referee in the Premiership 09/10 Season. Let me remind you of some instances: Old Trafford controversy In 2010 Dean was appointed to officiate the fixture at Old Trafford between Manchester United and Chelsea on 3 April. The game was dubbed a potential Premier League "title decider". Chelsea won the match 2-1.Dean, along with his assistants Simon Beck and Stephen Child, were heavily criticised in the media for turning down up to four penalty kick appeals, three for Manchester United and one for Chelsea. Didier Drogba scored Chelsea's second goal to give them a 2-0 lead, despite video replays appearing to show he was offside when the ball was played to him. Nearing the end of the game, Dean allowed a Manchester United goal to stand when Federico Macheda appeared to bundle the ball over the goal-line with his hands. United manager Alex Ferguson was among those who criticised Dean's performance.[ Ferguson said he was "worried" when Dean was appointed to the game after he had been in the media spotlight over controversial decisions he made in a Burnley-Blackburn Rovers match the week prior. Burnley manager Brian Laws described the assignment of Dean to the Old Trafford game as "mad". Dortmund controversy On 30 September 2010, Dean refereed the Europa League group stage match between Borussia Dortmund and Sevilla. Early in the second half he showed a second yellow card to Dortmund wingback Marcel Schmelzer for an alleged dive. The decision was criticised by Dortmund management and supporters who claimed Schmelzer had not attempted to draw a foul, but merely lost his footing while trying to evade his opponent's tackle; Dortmund coach Jürgen Klopp called Dean's interpretation of the incident "absolutely crazy". Later, Dean elected not to issue a second yellow card to Sevilla defender Fernando Navarro for what appeared a tactical foul on Jakub Błaszczykowski. Also on a Referee review website he had been given a Rating Average of a whopping 2 out of 5! Looks like we need our luck this weekend!
sdb Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 You could write something like that for the vast majority of refs, especially at this level. Partly because it's an impossible job, partly cause current standards are low.
TheUltimateWinner Posted 4 April 2011 Author Posted 4 April 2011 I Guess we will find out what he is like for us on Saturday, You cant play the same game twice as my old man says!
millzi Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 Why are we talking about Mike Dean? That wasn't our referee EDIT: Ohhhhh, are we talking about this Saturday? God damn! I HATE HATE HATE HATE HATE Mike Dean. Literally hate everything he does, he comes across so arrogant as well, like he's the dogs. Don't know if anyone else has noticed this.
Bugg Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 Wasn't he ref vs Man City? I thought he did a good job then, he get's it a lot worse than he should do.
RAFRUDY Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 Wasn't he ref vs Man City? I thought he did a good job then, he get's it a lot worse than he should do. Yes he was.
Kenners Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 Wow, blaming the ref before the game now? We really are struggling for scapegoats
Heart-Shaped Fox Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 Thought he has been good lately actually, though no doubt he'll be bad for us!
Bert Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 He's arrogant, like most refs. But I can bet any money he won't be as bad as the clown that we had this Saturday just gone.
swlc95 Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 He was the ref for our game away at Northampton in League 1 as well
Guest Bilo Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 Unless he actually comes on wearing a Burnley shirt and scores the winner for them, I can't see how he could be much worse than the clown at Middlesbrough.
Guest Mee-9 Posted 4 April 2011 Posted 4 April 2011 Unless he actually comes on wearing a Burnley shirt and scores the winner for them, I can't see how he could be much worse than the clown at Middlesbrough. Clown isn't even the correct word to describe that ref. C*nt sounds better.
Houdini Logic Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 Clown isn't even the correct word to describe that ref. C*nt sounds better. ...or maybe guy trying to do a job with a lot of hard decisions, incredible amount of pressure and pretty much zero perks
harryboi72 Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 its a tough job and why judge him before the game, if he has a shit game then have a go then, not before he has done anything wrong
Bert Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 ...or maybe guy trying to do a job with a lot of hard decisions, incredible amount of pressure and pretty much zero perks Getting paid to run around with some top quality footballers? Can't be too bad I don't think.
Parafox Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 You can't make a judgement until you see his performance on Saturday. Yes, he may be controversial but he could be controversial in our favour. Remember its the same ref for both teams. Pre-judging him would be like you doing the same job at a different firm every week and being slagged off before you even get there. Using the "C" word is just plain ignorant and offensive... grow up.
Houdini Logic Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 Getting paid to run around with some top quality footballers? Can't be too bad I don't think. Yeah because a league one/championship ref is going to earn a fortune, and that's going to make it well worth his time to run around with players that he probably doesn't even know only to be given abuse by them and several thousand people when he genuinely tries to make what he thinks are the right decisions. I'm sure the internet hate campaigns are just an added bonus.

And that's with me doing 60 hour weeks, in a fairly decent job. The refs have 2 games at the most in a week. The ref chose his job, and if he's shit at it he should rightly get some shit, just the same as me or you would if we fooked up in our jobs.

This conversation is about Andy Haines, the referee at Middlesborough who has never refereed a Premiership match and does not earn anywhere near that amount.

Even if I believed that he was paid a half decent wage (which I truely don't), this shouldn't be in correlation to the amount of abuse you can receive! If I fuck up in my job I sit down and talk about it with my superiors and work out a way forward, hardly the same to the level of verbal and potentially physical abuse a referee gets is it? It annoys me when people try to justify certain things because of what people earn, ridiculous.

Anyway, what I'm trying to get across is that this bloke is a PROFESSIONAL and if he's getting paid to be next to some quality footballers, in some top stadiums, with all expenses paid then he should be doing a much better job than he did on Saturday. He's gone through all the training courses, so he should have no excuses why he was so bad. Doesn't look like it was the first time either.

Of course he should be doing a better job - Ideally we would want referees to get everything spot on 100% of the time. But if a referee doesn't do a very good job then it's either because he's corrupt and trying to fix the game or more likely because he's human and makes mistakes. If you think verbal abuse, physical abuse, being called a c*nt and a clown and various other internet hate campaigns are justified for these mistakes then that's your prerogative
accessory Posted 5 April 2011 Posted 5 April 2011 Gotta give credit where it's due. The FA is truly an equal opportunities employer. It appoints referees without reference to race, religion, gender or ability.
