StanSP Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 Yeah votes are made by players/managers. I would have picked Ivanovic or Chris Baird ahead of Sagna. Players like Baird get overlooked because they're not playing at a relatively successful team. ALL of the players in the Team of the Year are from top 4 sides. It goes to show that players who put in much more effort and passion are ignored and therefore fighting a losing battle from the start.
Jimothy Posted 17 April 2011 Posted 17 April 2011 Vidic Actually, yeah, I don't know why I didn't bring him up when I was talking about who shouldn't be there. I don't get the Vidic bumming that goes on. He's sometimes solid and sometimes a liability. Always prone to getting sent off, and not just against top players, he should have gone the other week after hauling down Carlton Cole. In the same game he got done by a Cole step over, nobody who gets done by a Carlton Cole step over deserves to be a team of the year.

Spurs aren't currently a top four team But what we see, and what the players come up against is clearly something totally different if you get what I mean? We've all got the players we think should be in there only through watching, whereas the votes have come from the ones that play each other every week.

At least he didn't get ripped by Andy griffin like PVA did on Saturday!
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 18 April 2011 Posted 18 April 2011 Bale is ****ing ridiculous. Take out those games against the Milan teams and he aint all that. 1 assist in the league is pretty piss poor for a winger. What would everyone's team be? VDS Bains Kompany Djourou Sagna Parker Wilshere Yaya Nani Tevez Odemwingie
Stevosevic Posted 18 April 2011 Posted 18 April 2011 I personally wouldn't have given it to Bale. His best performances appear to have been in the Champions League and I think the hype is a bit much. I think the list of nominations shows that there wasn't a real stand out performer like previous years.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 18 April 2011 Posted 18 April 2011 spot the Gooner. I know Djourou is the obvious biased selection, but he really is damn good and i dont think he gets the credit he deserves because of our manager/ teams inability to capitalize on opportunities. He'd get much more praise in another team and to be fair I said that Tevez should have been player of the season
sdb Posted 18 April 2011 Posted 18 April 2011 Sagna?! Vidic deserves to be there. He holds together a fairly mediocre defence (when Rio is absent; i.e. most games). Bale had a great 2010, but has done little this year (injuries mainly, but still...). Also some of his best performances were in Europe. Vidic was better last year. Tevez, Nasri - like bale, have gone off the boil imo. Parker's been great, but is captaining a side to relegation - one that should be mid-table. Adam has been a revelation but again, making less impact than earlier in the season. A little one-dimensional for me too, al be it a very tidy player. Not sure who i'd have gone for! Right back is a tough call...Carr?!
StanSP Posted 18 April 2011 Posted 18 April 2011 Ivanovic should be right back. To say that Parker has captained a side to relegation is a bit unfair on him. If anything, he's been the one who's mostly been inspirational for West Ham when most other players have in essence given up and needed a boost. And he's made up for Grant's short-comings i.e. giving team-talks to boost the team etc. It's harsh to say he's captained the side to relegation, cos to me that sounds like pinning blame on him.
Mikey Posted 18 April 2011 Posted 18 April 2011 How Nani hasn't got more votes is unbelievable. The guys been class all season.

I appreciate he's been quality, but PFA player of the year being captain of a relegated side just seems wrong to me.

Bert Posted 18 April 2011 Posted 18 April 2011 Its probably something to do with him being a massive twat Bit like Arsene Wenger then, eh?
Joe. Posted 18 April 2011 Posted 18 April 2011 My god Vidic is one of the most painfully overrated footballers on the planet.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 18 April 2011 Posted 18 April 2011 Bit like Arsene Wenger then, eh? Increasingly, yes
Samilktray Posted 18 April 2011 Posted 18 April 2011 Increasingly, yes Are you an Arsenal fan or something?
ScouseFox Posted 18 April 2011 Author Posted 18 April 2011 According to OptaJoe's stats, the top 11 players in the Premier League are: B.Foster, B.Sagna, J.Terry, N.Vidic, G.Clichy, M.Essien, C.Adam, S.Nasri, Nani, C.Tevez, D.Berbatov.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 18 April 2011 Posted 18 April 2011 If Michael Essien could actually stay fit, he'd be the best central midfielder in the league. I think Rafael has come on in leaps and bounds at right back for Man United this season, whether or not he's the best in the league is another matter, but he's improved so much.

The only problem with that is the PFA Awards are given for the season as a whole and not just the Premier League matches.
sdb Posted 18 April 2011 Posted 18 April 2011 Clichy's had a woeful season imo. Needs to learn the offside trap.
