Lambert09 Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Any one else confused about this? I thought Oakley had handed over the armband to King ? Could this be something to do with him not signing a new deal ? Or is it just happening at the end of the season ? Any one know whats going on ?

Oakley is club captain, King is team captain when Oakley isn't playing.
Facecloth Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Oakley is club captain, King is team captain when Oakley isn't playing. Yes, that was the case, but the other week Oakley signed a new deal and annouced he would be handing the club captaincy to King at the same time.
zubi Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Kings a great prospect, but I don't think he deserves the captaincy. Doesn't look like leadership material yet
Stevosevic Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Yes, that was the case, but the other week Oakley signed a new deal and annouced he would be handing the club captaincy to King at the same time. Handing it over in the summer, King will be club captain next season.
LCFCmatt Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Wellens or Gallagher for captain. King wouldn't be vice-captain if he wasn't top goalscorer.
thybluefox Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 I don't think we really have any 'good' contenders for captain tbh. For instance, neither Oakley nor anyone else was stopping Bamba laying into the ref when he go booked last night, was treading a very fine line.
cairnsy Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Best captain is Oakley. Lead from the front, king isn't a leader
Kierzz Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Wellens or Gallagher for captain. King wouldn't be vice-captain if he wasn't top goalscorer. Gallagher??!! He won't even fully commit himself to a 50/50 challenge A captain should lead by example, not the opposite. I think originally giving King the vice captainship was done as an incentive for him to stay (look at Howson for leeds)
Haydos Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 You need a leader of men. We don't have one.. yet. Wellens could be. I think handing him the armband would help him step it up commitment-wise but I can see Sven's thinking with giving it to Kingy, he could be a great player and captain. There's ups and downs for both, Wellens might only be around of a couple more seasons.
funkyrobot Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Kingy isn't captain material for me. He's quiet and ghosts on and out of the game. If we had Mee next year, I'd make him captain.

The very fact that king was captain & Oakley 'gave it up' seems a bit weird to me! ..., maybe Sven doesn't think king has the personality to impose himself in the right way, or even he needs to get his own game in order first?! ... How about big sol bamba for skipper? For one thing he's our player, he also has bags of personality & always shows commitment & passion IMO

As you say,he has plenty going for him. Pretty vocal too. Or do we wait and see what the summer brings ? IMO King doesn't need the extra pressure & is too young.
Ross 'LCFC' Turner Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Wellens or Bamba arguably the two most important players, the two most vocal players and the two players who lead by example ..... without them we would be screwed
Darkon84 Posted 14 April 2011 Posted 14 April 2011 As things stand, King just isnt capation material. We are crying out for a midfield enforcer who could do the job. As it is, Wellens is probably the most ideal captain we've got.
Ricey Posted 14 April 2011 Posted 14 April 2011 Wellens and Oakley will lead and instruct when the pitch, regardless of the arm band. King is still fairly young and quiet, making him captain should bring him out of his shell. Makes sense to me.
