Guest ttfn Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 After United beat Chelsea to move closer to a (still unlikely) treble, I thought back to the last United team to achieve that. And I thought about that midfield: Beckham - Scholes - Keane - Giggs Now I have only watched football for 20 years, so have less to go on than others, but that was a phenomenal unit. The way each of them offered something different and complementary to one another was amazing. So what other combinations did/do people love? Blackburn's SAS? Toshack/Keegan (which I've heard so much about but obviously never saw). Hammond/De Vries?

StanSP Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Xavi/Iniesta comes straight to mind. Definitely that Man Utd midfield too - world-beaters. Thierry Henry/Dennis Bergkamp was lethal, too. And some of that midfield too - Pires and Ljungberg on the wing; Vieira in the middle. And a few years earlier, Adams and Keown were one of the best defensive centre-back partnerships in the league or even Europe at the time. Alessandro Nesta and Maldini or Costacurta were also so solid in early-mid 2000s. There's more but I can't think right now
Haydos Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Elliot - Tags - Walshy Izzet - Lennon - Sav .....that whole team.
Miquel The Work Geordie Posted 13 April 2011 Posted 13 April 2011 Deschamps, Vieira and Zidane were used in a midfield triangle (Zidane at the top) when France were a force, just before and after the turn of the century. Juventus also had Zidane playing behind Del Piero and Pippo Inzaghi in the mid-nineties Brazil played Ronaldo, Rivaldo and Ronaldinho as a forward three during 2002. I know they hardly dominated that tournament but there's so much talent in that trio it'd be hard to disregard them.
potter3 Posted 14 April 2011 Posted 14 April 2011 On a more recent note I loved watching Rooney/Tevez/Ronaldo play together at United.
BoneDog Posted 14 April 2011 Posted 14 April 2011 When I was a kid I used to think the Forest back five were really solid. It was the late 80's and maybe early 90's. I think they got a fair few goals (barring Sutton obviously) between them aswell as being great defenders. GK : Steve Sutton LB : Stuart Pearce CB : Steve Chettle CB : Des Walker RB : Brian Laws

chrisfox Posted 14 April 2011 Posted 14 April 2011 Tony Adams, Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn, Steve Bould Niall Quinn, Kevin Phillips
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 14 April 2011 Posted 14 April 2011 97/98 Zidane, Pipo and Del Piero. Even though i was desperate for Inter to win Serie A that season
StanSP Posted 14 April 2011 Posted 14 April 2011 Ricardo Fuller - Mamady Sidibe You could rape any side on FIFA with those 2 upfront.
Dickie Greenleaf Posted 14 April 2011 Posted 14 April 2011 Hansen and Lawro Bremner and Giles (effective to say the least...)
I am Rod Hull Posted 14 April 2011 Posted 14 April 2011 Cheese and pickle... Adam and the Ants... Gary Lineker and Peter Beardsley...
