TopTableFox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I see BCFC are off to Portugal tomorrow - will Maynard be on the plane?
bcfc1897 Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Because we want the player. We also want the player to want to join us. Is this sequence of events really so unlikely? 1- Maynard gets contract offer from Bristol City, agent hears whisper that other clubs are interested, advises him to wait. 2- Formal offer comes in from Leicester. Interest in the player is officially confirmed. 3- Nugent signs for Leicester on purported £25k a week, and the small world of agents gets talking. Maynard's agent sees pound signs, advises Maynard to hold fire on new contract. 4 - Leicester make £3.5m and £4m bids on same day, but Bristol say they won't take less than £5m. 5 - Maynard's agent advises him he will make more money at Leicester, has more chance of promotion and a related wage increase. Maynard refuses to sign contract. 6 - Faced with losing a £4-5m asset, Bristol City panic. 7 - Leicester offer £4m with add-ons and Bristol have no option but to cut their losses and accept less than they originally wanted. 8 - Maynard has talks with Leicester, signs better contract than he was offered at Ashton Gate. Laptops across Bristol are covered in drool. Logical. But I would disagree with 4 and 6.
bcfc1897 Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I see BCFC are off to Portugal tomorrow - will Maynard be on the plane? Yes. They're all at the hotel (including Maynard) ready for a 6am start in the morning.
Guest ttfn Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Logical. But I would disagree with 4 and 6. I'm surprised point 6 hasn't happened already. Based on a £5m valuation, a solid 30% of your side's value is tied up in one player, and he'll be (literally) worthless in 12 months.
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Come on everyone, calm down, calm down. In Sven :sge: we trust
TopTableFox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Yes. They're all at the hotel (including Maynard) ready for a 6am start in the morning. still time then!
One Arm Babba Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Yes. They're all at the hotel (including Maynard) ready for a 6am start in the morning. He'll be having brekkie with uncle Sven.
TopTableFox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 He'll be having brekkie with uncle Sven. with his agent anyway!

Looking at your posts, you're obviously a deep thinker about the game and have a deep understanding of championship squads.

1964FOX Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Personally I don't think he will come, and at the price being discussed I'm not really bothered if we don't get him. As others have said there are alternatives available for that kind of money.

wattolcfc Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 who you thinking as alternatives? Roy of the Rovers..
Bellend Sebastian Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I remember similarly protracted negotiations being needed to secure the services of a certain Mr Ade Akinbiyi. Sometimes you just have to push the boat out to make the dream happen

Looking at your posts, you're obviously a deep thinker about the game and have a deep understanding of championship squads. 1) I was winding you up. You bit. Thanks. 2) If you had actually read my previous posts you'd recognise that if there's one thing I bore on about, it's the fact that we have little idea of the quality of other Championship players, because of the limited opportunity to actually see them beyond twice a season. 3) The more I think about it, the more I think our squad is worth about £20m on the current market. But, such is the oddball nature of the transfer market, it's difficult to generalise. I'm sorry for wasting your time, sir.

Corky Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 If Akinibiyi had been an undisclosed fee then it would've all been different.
