Jon the Hat Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Maynard has got 2 options. 1) He tells Bristol City that he does not want to sign a contract extension, and will therefore leave for free next year if an offer is not accepted, or 2) He signs a new contract, tells everyone that he does not wish to leave, then we can go our seperate ways. If he was going to do 2) He would have done it already I think. the question is whether we are attractive enough or whether he holds out in hope of a Prem club either now or in the next 12 months. I doubt if he sees his future in Bristol either way.
Marmite Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 First thing Bristol need to do to mount a promotion push is get a new keeper....cant rely on clamity James
BCFC Fan94 Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 cheers fella, at least your decent and honest. What do you think about the Maynard situation, will he leave you lot? I think it's clear that he's holding out for a Premier league move, however if you do manage to meet our asking price (a big if as it's a high asking price) I personally think he'll go to you, due to the luxurious wages he'll get and admitedlly higher chance of promotion. Although you never know what will happen next season. We were 2nd favourites last year and two games in Steve Coppell leaves and we end up 15th! It's a funny old game.
Howard9 Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Dont think this is gonna happen chaps, if they dont want to sell then they wont sell UNLESS maynard wants to leave, but i carnt see it happening. which is a shame cus then our offensive side would be sorted as far as im concerned
Madrid_Fox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Even if Nicky Maynard has been reasured that Bristol City will spend some money and are going to push seriously for promotion you would think that BCFC would have had the good sense to make him sign a new contract. If this was deal or no deal I would say the banker was holding all the cards.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 we've had two bids rejected 3.5 million and 4 million. cmon brizzle, surely thats enough???!!!??? http://www.bcfc.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10327~2387236,00.html Well when is 4 million not 4 million - when there's a 20% sell on clause to Crewe for a starter! Then considering Maynard has not asked to leave and its rummoured his agent is holding up the signing of a new contract with his demands that puts the real value of the deal to nearer 3 million than the 4 we have been rumoured to have offered. City paid 2.25 million for him in 2008, so selling at 4 million would realise a profit of £750,000 based on the above - so you might think you may as well keep him and see where having a decent goalscorer in your side gets you at the end of the season - City were in the top half after as poor a start as us and there main problem was goalscoring so you're not going to give up your best hope for the season without a damn good reason are you? Add to that the fact that one of league one's finest strikers just went for 3 million, it would suggest that if City were to sell and then look to replace it would cost them as much as they are getting in. I think we'd have to strech to 5 million with add ons to tempt City into a sale - key thing here is City have the player onside at the moment. Maynard does not seem to be that interested in our offers (at least there's no nosies coming out from his camp) and City probably think they could get 3 million in January as a worse case scenario if Maynard starts the season well so they are quite rightly in no hurry to sell their prize asset to a league rival. Fair play to them I say, we're not exactly Manchester United are we.
hackneyfox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 i think £5.5m should be enough.. Do you think they may throw in a beard and a gourd? Please don't go on holiday anywhere where you may have to haggle.
Kent Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 They obviously don't have a clear, take-it-or-leave-it price otherwise we would have either made the bid or left it rather than keep making incremental bids. So IMO this 'asking price' is in fact non-existent. Just hope it doesn't drag on for weeks...
Bob Weasel Fox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 dont think we should offer more than 4.5 Mill surely?
cc_star Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 With the sell on clause and agents fees etc £4m isn't enough for them to make a worthwhile profit & to replace him with someone of a reasonable calibre Like the above poster I think £5m maybe even more will be required
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 None taken, We should be top 10 pushing for the play-offs at least this coming season we finished quite strong last season and if it wasn't for the coppell disaster we would of been in with a good shout of the play-offs like yourselfs (we picked up 6 points from the first 11 games) Most of our fringe players are only contracted until 2012 once they run down you'll see us make a big push in player recurtment (hopefull the ground will be 6 months away by then as well) Being a local Monkeh, I would say Bristol City need the new stadium to be in place before they can really contiplate going up (and problem here is when that will be is anyones guess!). I suppose the money and parchute payments would come in handy, but the infrastructure to support a prolonged stay in the Premiership isn't yet there and the danger is promotion could do more harm than good wouldn't you say? Had Dean Widnass not got in the way, my theory may have already been proven, but thats another story completely!

Sniffer-Clarke Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I think he will have to ask for a transfer if he really wants to come to the foxes.
Jon the Hat Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 dont think we should offer more than 4.5 Mill surely? The question is who else you would bring in for £5m? How much is it worth to be familiar with the League you are in? What is the value of English as a first language? Is there really anyone else of his caliber for the money, at his age, who speaks English as a first language, who we can realistically expect to play for us in the Championship?
Madrid_Fox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I think we should call this a day now. We have proposed a good offer for Mr Maynard, an offer Bristol City do not feel is adequate. The big question, will Bristol City be regretting this decision in 6 months?
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Do you think they may throw in a beard and a gourd? Please don't go on holiday anywhere where you may have to haggle. I'm assuming this is a Python reference? If not I want my plus 1 back!

Whatever the figure you can understand why they turned down 3.5 & 4.
