more likely the club have gone public to say he's not for sale to a championship club at any price so don't bother bidding

This has been covered times, but the official statement from your club was changed from "won't sell" to "wish not to sell", why do that if they're never going to sell him no matter what the price?

I would break our transfer record for Maynard, have a vision that I can't see Akinbiyi at the top any longer

is he really injury prone?? hes only had the one injury last year hasnt he?? hardly a sick note contender..

I think 2 long-term injuries by the age of 24 should make you think twice. Especially when he's only 10 or so games back from the latest one.

Hopefully this will be sorted one way or the other by the end of the week.

It's starting to become an inconvenience.

We need all our main targets in by Friday. If it's not done by then, we're through with it imo.

Bristol can sell him for half his current value in January instead.

Bidding £4 million for Maynard, and having that rejected no doubt we'll bid again. £4 million for Matt Mills. What figures we going to be bidding in the Premier League should we get there.

Probably nothing more.

The Thais aren't doing this because they love Leicester. There's a £90m cash cow at the end of the tunnel (apologies for mixing metaphors). Anything they spend less than £90m and they'll be able to sell the club on for an overall profit.

It's already silly money.

I'd love to see Maynard in a Leicester shirt, but not at any cost. £5m for an injury-prone striker with a year left on his contract, no Premier League experience and one good Championship season is insane.

Maynard has had two injuries, a broken leg when he was 19, he came back from that to score about 16 in the last 19 games of the season to keep Crewe up. The other injury was last season when he got a knee injury skiing on a dry slope (which he shouldn't have been doing anyway). He came back from that to score 6 in 11 games. But the point is, he's hardly missed a game other than those two bad injuries.

I'm not saying he's worth 5m or not, but I am saying that it will probably take at least that to get talks going.

The trouble is if maynard does come here for silly money expectations will be high! The higher the bid the more pressure it puts on mav to live upto that price we paid! I trust svens jugdment but either way maynard is in a great position wages wise good pay day comming up for him bet he is writing out his shopping list now!!

Not really. This deal will largely be done regardless of what your club want. Tapping up may not be legal but it's obvious his agent will be on the look out and if the player is convinced to go it's going to happen.

Brizzle fans who think their club are holding the cards are just being thick. His value drops by thousands a day as his contract runs out, your board will bottle it by the end of the window and take a few mil - they're just stalling at the minute in a desperate attempt to start a bidding war. Sorry, but the silence suggests it isn't happening.

Is he taking the piss

By the looks of it hinting at the fact that it's us that's bidding despite everyone already knowing.

The only way we will get this kid for 4Million is if he puts a transfer request in. If he's got anything about him he will do it why would he not want to progress his career, wages and play for a team who has a good chance of getting promoted AND play under the might Sven????

It could be big fish little pond syndrome. Just ask CMS.

Wonder why some of our other signings said that one of the reasons for joining was because they saw some of the players coming in! Also this whole saga reminds me a bit

of the Schmeichel signing where everyone at leeds was tyring to save face.

FFS I go away for 2 hrs and Rob Tanner has major developments. After trawling through 5 pages of Brizzle, Cov scum, Akinbiyi, Fryatt and WAGGEY! I discover Tanner is reporting what we all found out about 2pm!!!

I have a really strong feeling that we are going to pay whatever it takes. Rightly or wrongly, if Sven thinks he is the missing piece of the puzzle then it will be done. After all there is no point in paying Svens annual salary if he can't recruit the players he wants/needs. I know that the fee would have to be in reason. But if he fires the goals to get us promoted £5 million or so could be worth it.

Because we want the player.

We also want the player to want to join us.

Is this sequence of events really so unlikely?

1- Maynard gets contract offer from Bristol City, agent hears whisper that other clubs are interested, advises him to wait.

2- Formal offer comes in from Leicester. Interest in the player is officially confirmed.

3- Nugent signs for Leicester on purported £25k a week, and the small world of agents gets talking. Maynard's agent sees pound signs, advises Maynard to hold fire on new contract.

4 - Leicester make £3.5m and £4m bids on same day, but Bristol say they won't take less than £5m.

5 - Maynard's agent advises him he will make more money at Leicester, has more chance of promotion and a related wage increase. Maynard refuses to sign contract.

6 - Faced with losing a £4-5m asset, Bristol City panic.

7 - Leicester offer £4m with add-ons and Bristol have no option but to cut their losses and accept less than they originally wanted.

8 - Maynard has talks with Leicester, signs better contract than he was offered at Ashton Gate. Laptops across Bristol are covered in drool.
