hackneyfox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Maynard never took our pen's that was McIndoe/Orr/Pitman I'm talking about Sharp not Maynard.
DJ Barry Hammond Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Yachts moored up in Croatian ports work quite well I hear. So whats our version to this? Is Thaskin going to land his Boeing on the M32?
Babylon Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 With the Yak looking very unlikely and Sharp the only other option I think we HAVE to get Maynard. For me Sharp is a good player but I doubt he could make the step up to the Prem IF we got there and Maynard might. Are there no other strikers in the world?
Madrid_Fox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 There are other players out there - we shouldn't go stupid with our offers - it isn't season over if we don't get him. Agreed. We won't have money for very long if we throw it away on players who are blatantly not worth that kind of money. And Maynard is worth £3.5m max Swansea paid £3.5m for Danny Graham and I would rather have Graham than Maynard.
wattolcfc Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 There are other players out there - we shouldn't go stupid with our offers - it isn't season over if we don't get him. Agreed it's not the be all and end all but if we were to start the season with the current attack I feel we will be dropping much needed points that might cost us come May. I honestly worry that Sven hasn't got many other options and I think he will up the bid to £5m by the end of the week, with a take it or leave it offer.
wurmer Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Are there no other strikers in the world? Agreed, Some people need to take a deep breath (and a chill pill)
cc_star Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Are there no other strikers in the world? Yup... But anyone worth their salt will have rival clubs sniffing around, overpaying for a player might be the only way to be the sole bidder though. Plus being an accomplished Championship player & English speaking gives (a bit) more certainty to to him settling-in over someone from Mexico, Ivory Coast or Nigeria or whatever And the fact he's still very young means his value is likely to increase if he continues to progress, which surely he would do with someone as talented as Sven at the helm of a coaching team
Monkeh BCFC Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Range rover in the car park with the number plate "5PUD". didn't know Akinbyi was still playing....we mugged wolves when we sold him for 4 million
elbucko Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 didn't know Akinbyi was still playing....we mugged wolves when we sold him for 4 million Is it mr potato head's???
sdb Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 SDB, strong rumours he will either be loaned out to Brentford of Notts County. Oh really? Have completely missed them. I'd like him to get a shot during pre-season and see what he can do. He looked ready in L1 last season. Very quick and agile and can score a goal (the type of striker we lack, hence this whole thread I suppose). Worth a low risk punt imo.
darko2k7 Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Although i would clearly love him here i feel it is just getting stupid now . If we bid more than the reported 4 million and get him although i will be pleased that feeling will be outweighed by a real sense of being ripped of big time. I would feel like i did when i got my first ever pc but was to impatient to save up and got it on finance which cost me twice what it was worth !, BIG time buyer remorse
bcfc1897 Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 I think Nicky has perhaps asked Bristol for reassurances that they will spend money and bring some players in to challenge for promotion. They can't guarantee him that and asked if a offer comes in he wants to talk to other clubs. No disresepect for Bristol but they are a few seasons away from mounting a serious promotion battle Can't comment on what Maynard has asked for - he's being very tight lipped in all this, nothing coming out of him at all. I don't know if that's good for you or good for us, but it looks as if BCFC are determined to hold on to him. But if Sven offers silly money, he'll have to go I suppose. Some are indicating that the silly money is 8m (told you it was silly). No disrespect taken, you are correct in saying we are a couple of seasons away from promotion or even a sniff at it. We'll give it a go though and at least I can't see us getting relegated.
Guest Bilo Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 In fairness, mud slinging aside, I don't see Bristol City as relegation candidates. Pitman looked good for them when I saw them but he and Maynard aside, they're a fairly average side who look destined for mid-table. Things could change in the seasons to come, but right now they're behind us in the running and that could influence Maynard if he is ambitious.

I think the fact your club has gone public means they're interested in selling for certain, they're just drumming the price up and trying to get other clubs involved and a bidding war going on, if you really weren't interested in cashing in you could have just declined our offers and left it at that. Going public is a negotiation tactic
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 If B.C.F.C.think they can get more than £4 million for Maynard, they must be crazy. Personally I would rate him at no more than £3 million, and even that would be a gamble. Hope he comes here though.

Going public is a negotiation tactic Possibly. Another angle is that the club know that the supporters will be up in arms if he goes as it signals a lack of ambition so broadcasting that they're doing everything they can to keep him may soften the blow if/when he goes. The club really don't want him to go, so whatever club gets him will be paying more than they should - just like we did when we got him.

Babylon Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Agree with this, bristol are worried until he signs an extension or leaves for a fee. Think they'll agree at around 5 million. If he says he aint signing they'll agree for a lot less than that.
bcfc1897 Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Agree with this, bristol are worried until he signs an extension or leaves for a fee. Think they'll agree at around 5 million. I think 5m may trigger talks. We paid 2.25m for him and Crewe have a 20% sell on clause (on the profit). On 5m, it works out that Maynard would get 5% which is 250k, Crewe get 550k, and agents fees no doubts of say 200k. That means 1m that doesn't go to the club. You may be right and a deal can be done for 5m, but I think that figure would only trigger talks, then you are into really silly money.
StarFox Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 more likely the club have gone public to say he's not for sale to a championship club at any price so don't bother bidding Yes. 'Please don't offer us loads of money'
Guest ttfn Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 It's already silly money. I'd love to see Maynard in a Leicester shirt, but not at any cost. £5m for an injury-prone striker with a year left on his contract, no Premier League experience and one good Championship season is insane.
Ashley Posted 6 July 2011 Posted 6 July 2011 Bidding £4 million for Maynard, and having that rejected no doubt we'll bid again. £4 million for Matt Mills. What figures we going to be bidding in the Premier League should we get there.
