Apparently the Merc license for Microsoft office ran out yesterday. They were up all night handwriting the full article about the transfers, but not one of them knows how to spell, and with no spellcheck they've resorted to checking each word individually on Google to make sure they are all okay.

Once they've done this, they'll get it up as an 'afternoon special' online.

Alos if you take into account how long it must have taken them to photoshop Susan Whelan and bang it into that article online, then you'll be hardpressed to give them stick for not 'getting on with it'.

Anyone actually bought a copy of the mercury? I'm not in Leicester so have to rely on their website which isn't showing anything

There is something as it's on the mercury boards outside newsagents... something like "England Striker on City Radar".

sorry. I thought you were thinking this headline might be about Heskey.

Finally :trumpet:

http://www.thebluearmy.co.uk/news/Free-agent-David-Nugent-Leicester-City-s-radar/article-3640445-detail/article.html?

Leicester City have turned to former England international David Nugent as they begin to widen their search for a new striker.

City have missed out on Marlon King, and a deal to bring Yakubu to the Walkers Stadium is in deadlock over personal terms.

Manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has started to look at other strikers and Nugent is considered an option.

The 26-year-old is a free agent after his contract expired at Portsmouth.

Pompey had hoped to re-sign Nugent, right, who they had paid £6million for three years ago, but have admitted defeat after failing to agree terms.

Nugent will certainly attract plenty of interest from other clubs, and has been linked with Blackpool, who almost signed him last season, as well as Ipswich Town and Bolton Wanderers.

The striker is believed to be on around £25,000 a week at Fratton Park, and City may be able to offer him the best personal package. It is personal terms which have hampered the permanent signing of Yakubu, according to reports.

When the Nigeria international joined City on loan from Everton last season, there was an option on the deal for a permanent transfer to take place this summer.

After scoring 12 goals in 20 games, Yakubu said he wanted to stay at City.

The Mercury understands there is no problem with the deal between the two clubs, as the Toffees want to cut their losses on a player they paid £11.5m for in 2007 so they can free up funds for manager David Moyes to reinvest in his squad.

Everton could let Yakubu go for a fee of £2m.

However, the player's wages of between £35,000 and £40,000 are the stumbling block, and there has been no movement for some days, with reports in Africa that Yakubu is now weighing up moves to Turkish sides Fenerbahce or Karabuksor.

But a move to Leicester is still very much a possibility for the 28-year-old.

Nugent would bring plenty of firepower to the Walkers Stadium.

He began his career at Bury and scored 18 goals in 88 appearances during three years at Gigg Lane, before moving to Preston North End in 2005 for £100,000.

He scored 33 goals in 94 appearances for the Lillywhites and was snapped up by Pompey.

He struggled to establish himself at Fratton Park and had a successful season on loan at Burnley before returning to Fratton Park last season, where he scored 14 goals, including two against City, one in the 6-1 defeat of Paulo Sousa's side at Fratton Park and the winner at the Walkers Stadium in March.

Nugent has 14 England Under-21 caps, scoring four goals, and one full England cap, which he marked with a goal as a substitute against Andorra in 2007.

Thought Stringer said it was sorted this end and we were waiting on Everton?

I suppose the "disappointing" bit in the Merc guys twitter post was that he was seen as an option INSTEAD of Yakubu. Not that we were signing both of them.

Oh well... cue all the "what thought we were signing 15 players today" blah blah.

I said this a few pages back. I thought it was quite obvious that the disappointing thing was that we weren't going to be signing someone.

Obviously everybody started immediately frothing at the gash.

What he said could have been taken many ways, I'd read it that the possibility of him signing was disappointing (to him). Probably because that other guy on twitter fourth official seemed to think it was almost done and dusted... plus stringer saying it was sorted this end.

Who knows what the feck is going on.

I've learned quickly not to pay more than a tiny bit of attention to any posts on twitter, regardless of who they're by. Wouldn't even trust it coming from the player (Marlon King, please stand up) any more.

For sanity's sake posts on here this summer will be read with a pinch of salt as well :P

Agree with you. Looking at replies he has tweeted to people, its a case of him being disapointed by us (supposedly) signing the Yak.

He wanted Sven to go for someone younger

Don't worry... I wasn't sitting here thinking they were signing. I'm the biggest pessimist around, until it's on the OS with a player holding a shirt I take nothing for granted.

But that wouldn't happen until sometime next year!

This is how i read it. Then Stringer added his tuppence and this strengthened my interpretation of the tweet.

There's conflicting information out there, and I think one or all of them don't actually know themselves what's going on, and are speculating which is making the whole saga worse.

In some ways i wish we didn't have twitter fuelling the transfer rumours/transfer speculation scenario, as it is a medium which is awfully open for reading whichever way you fancy. It reminds me of the days of texting when you were limited to so many characters and it cost a fortune to send one, so paraphrasing and shortcuts caused more problems than the convenience of just calling the person directly.

That and those with Twitter accounts seem to think they are part of some sort of elite crowd of pseudo-celebrity. But then again I've seen Facebook turn the same way, but I digress.

I will admit I got excited about some sort of news today, not a signing, but news.

Looks like it'll be another week of bickering over the twitter crumbs for us all.

That's the harsh reality of all this.

I got my fingers burned a bit on here a few seasons ago when the then Chief Exec told a mutual friend who we were going to sign and none of them came to fruition, even though they were all supposedly at an advanced stage at some point

Emile Heskey turns up at The Walkers stadium with a back pack. The security guard worriedly asks him what he's got in the bag. He replies "Porno dvd's, some counterfeit match day tickets, hooky replica shirts, some drugs & a gun". The security guard says "Thank **** for that, I thought you'd brought your boots".

Sorry, just thought it might lighten the mood in here! :-)
