One person spreads something stupid, and then a people believe it, recycle it and then you get mass hysteria cause everyone thinks they're the first port of call for all their friends on the latest information. Everyone just ends up making themselves look like tits.

I don't know whats worse, thinking there was something in this Capello rumour or believing that Kevin Keegan was going to be announced as Leicester City manager (just before Megson got the job).
