Clive Redman Posted 20 May 2011 Posted 20 May 2011 In his latest blog, Steve Walsh counts down the greatest City eleven he played with, starting this week with goalkeeper... "He was a good communicator on the pitch and he read the game well. Even though he was a quiet natured person, in terms of football it was different. He would never point the finger and blame players but was always vocal and a good organiser." Follow the below link to see who he's talking about... http://www.soarmagazine.co.uk/2011/05/20/steve-walsh-blog-my-greatest-eleven-%e2%80%93-goalkeeper/
Father Ted Posted 20 May 2011 Posted 20 May 2011 Fair, but I'm surprised he didn't mention Keller more.
davieG Posted 20 May 2011 Posted 20 May 2011 Poole and Flowers would be my best during Walshy reign but not better than Banks or Shilton., they're the best four for my time. I also have a soft spot for Muggleton.
gazfox9 Posted 20 May 2011 Posted 20 May 2011 Funny enough, thats who I'd have gone for too. Totally agree with Walshy on that one. Would love to have him in his prime here now.
MPH Posted 20 May 2011 Posted 20 May 2011 i'd say poole and Flowers aswell. Although the best goalkeeper i have ever seen down our way was a young David James playing for Watford. I saw him and just KNEW he was going to play for England one day. He just had that thing about him that no one else had.
Neil_LCFC Posted 20 May 2011 Posted 20 May 2011 Can't believe he never mentioned Flowers & hardly mentioned Keller, Poole hardly played any Premier League games for city even tho he was decent.
21st Century Fox Posted 20 May 2011 Posted 20 May 2011 Kevin Poole got a mention on this weeks Guardian football podcast.
MPH Posted 20 May 2011 Posted 20 May 2011 If Stowell is leaving, then we need to get a campeign going to get Poole in as our Goalkeeping coach
m00nie Posted 20 May 2011 Posted 20 May 2011 we want kevin kevin poole in our goal in our goal... even poole made mistakes though, vaguely remember filbert street we gave away a free kick and he was busy debating it and gave them the ball back whilst out his area still debating and they just lobbed him with a quick one...
Collymore Posted 20 May 2011 Posted 20 May 2011 Yeah was there, it was against Everton and I think Barmby scored for them, it was the biggest farce of a goal ever! Walsh scored a consolation (header at kop end) and it was 2-1 IIRC
DANGEROUS TIGER Posted 21 May 2011 Posted 21 May 2011 Poole and Flowers would be my best during Walshy reign but not better than Banks or Shilton., they're the best four for my time. I also have a soft spot for Muggleton. I agree with the above, but I would have put Mark Wallington, ahead of Tim Flowers.
jonthefox Posted 21 May 2011 Posted 21 May 2011 I agree with the above, but I would have put Mark Wallington, ahead of Tim Flowers. Agreed.
Rich Fox Posted 21 May 2011 Posted 21 May 2011 Maybe Walshie did not get on with Kasey Keller as a supporter during that time I would say Keller was better that Poole. I always remember a save he made in the replay againt Middlesborough against emerson I think which was awesome and meant we went on to win our first cup for donkeys years.
OzFox Posted 22 May 2011 Posted 22 May 2011 Poole made a save in the first leg of the play-off semi against Stoke that was one of the best I've personally seen anywhere. He had great reflexes and agility Doesn't sound like Walshy was too keen on Spider. Not only was he crap in matches, but he was crap in training too
