drc Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 In my opinion Wellens and Abe are solid enough for a first team place. However, I do think we need some quality in that midfield, or maybe some steel. Either way, I'd like another midfielder or two to cover as Oakley may not be good enough to provide efficient cover if we have an injury. I don't rate Dyer or Gallagher. Depends on what Svens plans are, I like the 4-3-3 meaning I'd like to see Abe -- Wellens -- new player. we need a fit Hargreaves
okie fox Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 We have 3 or 4 decent midfielders but need a ball winner - Derry, Bowyer, Danns, Elliott any of these would do a good job Agree. Also, Wellens and King played a lot of games last season. They need a rest now and then.

Reminds me of previous earlier posts by Thracian when he states that we attack very slowly. I think he's completely right here.. What I'd like to see is a central stopper, to win the ball, quickly lay it off and then to attack with speed. I think dyer has fallen foul of our pedestrian build up play. He would be more effective IMO in a generally quicker side
Bugg Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 No Andy King? You must have missed all of the times Fox92 has said he thinks King isn't good enough. It's been quite a lot

Vassell has a fair amount of pace, works harder than Dyer and has been consistant since signing. You must have missed all of the times Fox92 has said he thinks King isn't good enough. It's been quite a lot Yes, but I didn't put it in that post.
LCFC BEAST Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 We need somebody like nathan dyer for swansea who can get past a player and can whip the ball in. We cant always rely on Gallagher as he doesnt have any skill to get past players all the time. Especially if we get Nugent, Derbyshire and Yakubu as they are all pretty decent in the air.
MGLCFC Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 Yakubu is not decent in the air - he can barely get off the ground. Gallagher has the skill, but not the pace to get past players (he's a poor man's Beckham). But I agree we don't have a consistent out and out winger - Dyer is great for 50% of the games, but as his name suggests, for the other 50%.

Lloyd Dyer has the skill and the pace but doesnt have any end product shot or cross. Yakubu is good in the air he's just too lazy to work for the team thats's why he doesnt want to join. He prefers money over the team. I think somebody like Gary Mcsheffery from Coventry (scum) or Sebastien Larsson seeing hes been released by Birmingham and he has got a hell of a delivery. Just like Gallagher but a bit more pacey.

dannythefox Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 Lee Bowyer ???? We need him or someone like him here but i think he might go back to leeds!

Might get lynched here but Wellens for me is the weak link in midfield, don't get me wrong as much as i like Wellens he works tirelessly, tackles well and on his day is a decent passer of the ball, yet his downfall is his pace, like you said our pedestrian build up does not help our wide men to bomb on...and also when teams countered our lack of pace in midfield left our defenders who play such a high line exposed. I would love to see us sign a box to box midfielder who could link up with King and then with other additions we would have serious promotion claims.

Who is the other player? As for leaving us exposed a player who can get up and down the park quickly is a great asset to have....we currently do not have that type of player on our books.
dayday Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 you mention him in your post! As i have all ready said i think we can do better than Wellens.

RyanB89 Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 wellens, king, abe backups: oakley, someone, someone else
tylesta Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 As i have all ready said i think we can do better than Wellens. why is that?
john doe Posted 18 June 2011 Posted 18 June 2011 we have didi man as coach so going for someone like viera may cost a lot for one season but the knowledge they can pass on to our players is well worth it two of the best cm/dm of there generation
