Waghorn had a shocker tonight. he gave the ball away more often than not, his dead balls went about a foot off the ground and he was moaning at our young full back a lot when things were not working out for him.

he looks seriously pissed off about something.hasnt he been linked bristol city as part of the maynard deal?

How ridiculous people getting worried about 'only' drawing this. If we'd have lost 3-1 I wouldn't have batted an eyelid. Nowhere near full strength and a friendly.

I remember Newcastle getting smashed 6-1 in a friendly at Orient just before their first season in the Championship.

Never recovered from that result did they? Only managed to get over 100 points that year.

Too right these results mean nothing in pre season. It's nice to get a win but means nothing compared how and who we're going to play come a week saturday. These matches are about experimentation and fitness levels rather than a little bit of glory.

Very impressed with SSL. Not only was he the only player to clap the fans at the end, but he was very vocal, and decent at organising.

Liam Moore looked promising, and Ball was solid and steady. Kermo wone everything in the air.

Loved big Steve charging in at the bad tackle that went in on Schlupp. Great team unity.

Agree with this. Was fantastic to see someone willing to go all in on the oppo for a team-mate in a meaningless game. Shame we didn't see more of Schlupp really, but the boy just has an aura of confidence about him.

A solid enough showing from the 13/14 players that featured but it was Ball, Moussa and Moore that stood out for me, as others have mentioned.

I thought Kermo looked good in the air and played some smart passes along the floor too, something Howard fails to offer.

The move for the goal was, as Alan Partridge might say, liquid football, with a decent cross from Waggy (his only one of the game) and a nicely placed header from Moussa to finish.

The back-line were well-organised and there was a lot of communication across the pitch; there's a good unity within the squad and I think, despite the result, this was a performance that bodes well for the season ahead.

...even if it was a very, very dull second half.

well, i mustve been at a different match, Ball looked a little slow and awkward, not saying hes bad, just wasnt even close to my MOTM.

Liam Moor was excellent, some terific runs forward, always open and available. I though SSL was excellent also, positioned well, VERY loud and commanding, Tunch looked composed although think he and SSL allowed them to score (along range bolt, that on this occasion i wont blame Weale for).. Waggy ran hard but the touch just wasnt there tonight.

In my opinion the 2nd half was pretty poor all round, Howards support of his teammates was impressive ( i hope we have someone else who will take this role when hes not on the park) I thought Moussa looked very sharp and worked hard, Bruno was tidy, Oakley was reasonable.

Their number 10 looked pretty sharp and a young lad at left back for them also did some good things.

all in all.. pretty boring run out..if this is our 2nd eleven, we are still lacking a little.. also, im not sure, but how does our 1st team look in the height department.. this seemed quite a small side?

waggy was hardly useless he set up the goal with a great take down and clever cross. howard also gave us excitement by running 20 yards to pick a fight. kettering had some good players. that left back had waggy in his pocket. good job by stowell to swap dyer/waghorn. tunchev did play well.

So he was hardly useless, yet in the back pocket of fvcking Kettering's left back? lol

On the whole, shit.

Played some alright football but actually resorted to hoofball sometimes, against a BSP side.

I thought Ball was our best, easily, agreed with whoever said he was good on the ball, sensible, composed and intelligent.

Waghorn summed up why he won't be our 20 goal man. His assist was decent but even against Kettering his technical ability is really lacking. Makes good runs but never delivers any real quality sadly.

Howard was shite, but his effort in the first half was superb. That brawl was the best thing of the second half, real close up of how livid Howard really is on the pitch. lol

We're still making the same mistakes sadly, SSL was decent but where were him and Tunchev for their goal? It's the same old issue, space given from 20 yards out, Weale doesn't come fvcking close. It's appalling.

Overall, a shit display, but I'm not really concerned, virtually all of the team tonight was our cover.

Close call between Ball and Moore for MOM, Waggy didnt look at all comfortable and Howard offered nothing although he was justified in tearing into their player who fouled Schlupp.

I thought the game passed Moussa by in the 2nd half, Tunch looked a bit off the pace in the first half, SSL was ok.

Considering some were playing for their future's or a place in the starting X1 there was not much on offer.

Had never seen or heard of that oliver noburn (had to read the match report to find out who he was). Thought he looked quite tidy when he's came on

Think he may be One for the future to look out for

MOTM: Moore & Kermorgant

Howard did nothing, Kermorgant changed the game and gave us alot more chances, Even setting ball free.

Moore was just amazing.

But great team work with Howard having a fight, Then sorting it out on his own ;)

Can't see Waghorn playing a significant role this season then.

I hope I'm wrong and he produces some form, but Nugent and Vassell will most probably be the front pairing.

Impressive start for Moore.Ball should be offered a contract so should Tunch BUT we have no punch in the last third bearing in mind we were playing a Conference team full of players on trail we had approx 3 chances in 90min.Waggy looked completely fed up.It could be transfer speculation but i think the 433 system simply does not work either for him or the club.During pre-season we have not changed or tried this system at all I dont believe waggy or others at the club like this system.Too many times last night there was no movement in box or nobody available to take the final pass. There is no point Howard winning headers and flick ons if there are no other strikers around him for support.I am VERY worried for the season where our goals are going to come form. One last point, whilst i except that we have other players to come in i saw Coventry play Kettering on Sat and they ALOT better than us,they did win game but could have won by many more! :scarf: .

Yeah... but Cov but out a fullish strength side with the likes of Clingan and Jukewitz (sp?), whereas we had the likes of Howard, Moore and Berner. Hardly the team that will be playing a week on Saturday is it?

Also, I agree there's no point Howard winning flick-ons, hence why he's gradually being pushed out the side in favour of players who can pass and move and play it to feet.

People need to understand that scoring goals WAS NOT our problem last season - we scored more than enough to get promotion. We simply couldn't defend. Put our defence this year into last year's team and we're probably promoted. Massively frustrating to read the same stuff over and over again... Howard and Waghorn will NOT be in the starting XI this season. Kermogant is closer for crying out loud.

I agree tbh. The front 3 options we have are not promotion standard, and we should have tried at least one other formation during pre-season. Sven know's his stuff though.

As for Waggy, pretty sure he'd have known about the BC scenario. Not surprised he's pissed off.

People need to realise that last season our defence and midfield scored around 35 goals by themselves. We had goals coming from every single area of the pitch. This year all it would take is for Nugent, Gallagher and Vassell to score about 11 each ,which is very plausible, and that would be the equivalent of a 20 goal striker! Sick and tired of reading people going round in circles getting worried because what was effectively our 'B' team with a 35 year old leading the line failed to score more than one goal in a completely and utterly meaningless friendly!

We scored quite a few goals under Sousa in pre season and wow we really ripped it up in the goalscoring department with him didn't we!?
