Simmsy Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Massive word Nothing is ever guaranteed in football so I'm not going to say 'when'.
Guest MattP Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Good player. Scandalous amount to pay. If this comes off King Power have probably pumped more money into Reading than Leicester. They should take it like a shot, judging on what there manager has achieved already I would back him to get them up easily with 10million plus to spend.
Happy Fox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 SSL Trapattoni link also Mills link Good thinking if Trap and Sven are friends maybe Trap might convince Long that Leicester would be a good move for him and help his ambitions for ROI

All depends on the percentage of transfer revenue he's given...
ROB-THE-BLUE Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Nothing is ever guaranteed in football so I'm not going to say 'when'. Appreciated but the 'IF' becomes a bigger factor when the player is supposedly gonna cost us £7-8m. There are lots of 'what if's' but IMO its a MASSIVE risk to spend that sort of money on a player who has had 1 good season
Jon the Hat Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Well up for this signing. When was the last time we bought a on form goalscorer? Fingers crossed. He might prefer another season at this level to a early jump to the Prem to sit on the bench for someone.
Guest MattP Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 All depends on the percentage of transfer revenue he's given... If he loses his captain and best striker you would expect him to be compensated for it.

Before that he was developing as a player, coming off the bench and doing well in a strong team. We in the championship would simply not get him if he had 2 or 3 outstanding seasons.
Guest Bilo Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 This 'only had one good season' argument is disingenuous. He has but that season was LAST season, after the debacle of the 09-10 season where Reading were absolute dogshit till Christmas and couldn't score in a gangrape. Surely it's not presumptuous to assume that far from being a fluke as some seem to be implying, last season was his breakthrough where he went from potentially good to the 20 goals a season man we need. Spend £7m for a player whose goals could earn the club £90m? Good deal.
Joe. Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Very good signing if true, given the service he will get goals. Fantastic work rate, genuine quality and should fit in well with the current system. Really not sure how our front three will work this season though, Nugent may well be pushed out left like his Portsmouth position.
Guest MattP Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Spend £7m for a player whose goals could earn the club £90m? Good deal. Come on it doesnt really work that like does it? If that was the case everyone would be lining to buy him, hell why not buy 11 players at 7mil each to turn in a 13million profit when whoever goes up?

Lester LXXIV Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 We would need another winger for sure I notice Routledge STILL hasn't been confirmed at Swansea? Maybe he's holding out for a better wage offer?

It's a gamble but the owners feel it's worth the risk, so it does kind of work that way. Spending 7m on multiple players would be too much of a risk with less gain.
Happy Fox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 I notice Routledge STILL hasn't been confirmed at Swansea? Maybe he's holding out for a better wage offer? Bolo Zenden is a free agent , I know he is 34 but still has got another 2 seasons left in him and is still a decent player

Fair point but I just simply don't see how he can be worth that much money yet
Guest Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 I notice Routledge STILL hasn't been confirmed at Swansea? Maybe he's holding out for a better wage offer? I thought I read it had been confirmed on the BBC yesterday
tomtom Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 When west ham were being linked to Long people on here were saying that if they got him then they'd walk the league , so now that we're linked to him I'm surprised at the amount of negativity towards it Yes it is a lot of money but if they're was or is a cheaper alternative Sven will find it
Happy Fox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Fourth_Official Fourth Official The Mirror; Leicester will bid £7.5m for Reading's Shane Long #LCFC I have been checking The Mirror website and cannot find any reference, unless it is tomorrow's edition
Calfox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 I dont understand all the fuss about how much we pay for him IF we get him. 6-8 mil is nothing in the footballing world anymore. Look at Liverpool paying 18 mil for Stuart downsyndrome who IMO is crap! If u want quality at Leicester we are goin to have to spend money clubs aren't going to let there top players go cheap!
Lester LXXIV Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 I thought I read it had been confirmed on the BBC yesterday My apologies, I didn't see that one

We are in the Championship. Our support is no where near the size of Liverpools.
Calfox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 We are in the Championship. Our support is no where near the size of Liverpools. Who said anything about support? I was just saying that football players cost alot nowadays and that SOME people think we can get promotion without paying the money for quality players.
kingfox Posted 3 August 2011 Posted 3 August 2011 Im I allowed to say im incredibly bored by all of this. Surely their are easier targets that we could go for in Premier League, Championship, League 1 Ebanks-Blake, Sharp, Le Fondre would be easier to get than Long and Maynard surely.
